The Ivorian, Yaya Toure was named Africa’s Best
Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at
the awards ceremony held 8 January, 2015, Thursday, in Lagos.
Toure
got the award for the fourth time in his career, beating this time,
Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Ivory Coast and Manchester City player also achieved the record of four-time winner, Camerounian Samuel Eto’o Fils.
Speaking
after receiving the award from CAF President, Alhaji Issa Hayatou, and
Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, Toure thanked Allah for
making his success possible.
“First, I want to thank Allah
for being blessed all these years. I also want to thank football fans
and CAF for also making it possible for me to win this trophy again this
year,” said the Manchester City player.
Nigerians’ high
expectations were also compensated that evening. The Woman Player of the
Year award went expectedly to Asisat Oshoala.
Asisat Oshoala was
named Africa Youth Player of the Year while Super Falcons were crowned
as the Women’s National Team of the Year.
Nigerian footballers Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa made the African team XI.
