The suspects who were arrested by the detectives attached to the Special Anti-robbery Squad are said to belong to a gang that specialized in impersonating operatives of the Economic And Financial Crime Commission to rob bureau de change operators in Abuja and Lagos state.

According to CP Aderanti,one of the suspect, Bassey Williams Ekpenyong is a dismissed police corporal who was charged to court by SARS operatives for alleged kidnapping in 2012.

“Sequel to the information, I immediately directed the OC Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS)SP Abba Kyari to launch a massive manhunt. The manhunt paid off as the detectives tracked and arrested the kingpin, one Princewill Eze aka senator Nwobodo who lives in Ajah on February 27, 2015 at about 4pm. His confession led to the arrest of a female member of the gang, a Lebanese nationale, one Amira Abudallahi and other members of the gang”.

The police boss said the police recovered One Bryco59 pistol with serial no 930945 with six rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, single barrel pistol cut to size with four live cartridges.
Other items recovered include a Toyota highlander jeep ash colour with registration number, LSR 110 DB, Toyota highlander jeep Maroon colour with registration number LSR 671 DK, Toyota highlander jeep ash colour with registration number Toyota highlander jeep Maroon colour with registration number KTU380 DK, Toyota sienna 2012 model, with registration number JJ424CQ, Toyota four runner with registration number KRD 449 DG, one Toyota Camry Saloon car unregistered.
Cash allegedly recovered from the suspects include four million naira (N4,000,000) cash and thirteen thousand US dollars (S13,000) cash.
The police said the leader of the gang, Princewill Eze used the proceed from the crime to built a hotel in Edo state while other members built houses in Delta, Ogun and Lagos states.
