With just 18 days to the FIFA Women World cup, the Super Falcons are in good shape ahead of their June 8 opener with Sweden.
This was revealed by the team’s headcoach, Edwin Okon who named a preliminary 26-woman squad ahead of the tournament which begins on June 6.
Africa’s Best player, Asisat Oshoala tops the list of the players set to feature in Nigeria’s fourth outing at the tournament since its maiden edition in 1991.
However, a notable absence in the list is legendary striker Perpetua Nkwocha. The 39-year-old four-time African Women Footballer of the Year was dropped after participating in three straight World Cup outings in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

It is believed that Nkwocha’s omission is as a result of Coach Okon’s desire to opt for younger players in keeping with his philosophy of building team for the future.

Nigeria has been drawn in the group of death alongside two-time winners USA, Sweden and Australia in Group D.
The tournament will run from 6 June and 5 July.
