Spain Charges Nigerian Terrorist Abubakar Shekau

Spanish prosecutor charged Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram leader, with terrorism and crimes against humanity.
The legal move is linked with the 2013 attack on a Spanish nun in the Nigerian town of Ganye, Reuters reports. It should be recalled that at least 25 people were killed in the bloody assault.
The court papers were issued on May 28, Thursday. Based on the documents, Maria Jesus Mayor was attacked on March 22. However she swiftly escaped into hiding and was rescued by the Nigerian military Foreign Currency Found On Dead Terrorist Leader
The state prosecutor used the fact there was a Spanish victim to bring a generic charges of crimes.
“This criminal act was committed against a background of terrorist activities that the jihadist organisation (Boko Haram) is carrying out systematically against people and communities,” the court document said as it listed deadly attacks carried out by Boko Haram in Africa’s most populous state since 2009.
The news has recently broke that Shekau had been purportedly captured in Borno state and taken to Niger Republic. However, there was no official confirmation of the story.
Meanwhile today Nigeria welcomed the new president in the office. Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osibnajo, were officially sworn in at the Eagle Square. In his inauguration speech the new leader vowed to deal with Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
