James Jack Stark had suffered from a pigeon chest characterized by a protrusion of the sternum and ribs for 14 years. The boy hated the way he looked like so much he even wanted to smash his own chest with a hammer.

People with pectus carinatum the deformity usually develop normal hearts and lungs, but it may prevent these from functioning optimally. Besides, it may cause pain,  harmful psychological effects such as low self-esteem and depression.

The condition is rather common about 1 in 400 people have a pectus disorder. Usually such deformities are corrected through surgery, in which doctors break and realign the chest and rib bones. But James was offered to use a customized chest-wall brace that applies direct pressure on the protruding area of the chest.

After just four months of wearing the brace, his chest has completely flattened, his posture improved. Now he is full of life and hopes to join the armed forces one day.
