The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have constituted a joint committee to pick a date for the planned national warning strike to protest against the increase in electricity tariff and alleged anti-Labour actions of the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
The committee comprises the Presidents of the NLC and the TUC, Messrs Ayuba Waba and Bala Kaigama, respectively.
The President of the TUC, Kaigama, confirmed to our correspondent on the telephone that the TUC was planning the national warning strike alongside the NLC.
He said that the date for the strike would be picked by the joint committee of the two labour organisations most likely within the week.
Kaigama said that the organised Labour would also be protesting against the current fuel queues in the country.
The TUC president stressed that the actions of El-Rufai concerning the deduction of workers’ check off dues as well as the increase in electricity tariff and the long fuel queues in the country were unacceptable.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, had called on the organised labour to shelve the planned strike and protest, but Kaigama dismissed the call, saying the minister knew what to do about the issues.
