A Chocolate Fashion Show Has Presented the World With the First Edible Naked Dress
October 28, 2015
The best runway at Paris Fashion Week was a cheese-themed show,
which featured models in fancy dresses carrying wheels of Roquefort,
plates of Parmesan, and chunks of brie. The fact that I missed this
fusion of my two favorite things — fashion and fromage — sent me
into a deep depression. But you know what I like even more than cheese?
Chocolate. And the fact that my invite was once again lost has sent me
on another downward spiral.
The
Salon du Chocolat is France’s annual exposition where chocolatiers come
together to display their skills with white, light, dark, and every
variety of the sweet confection in elaborate presentations, from a giant
polar bear to a recreation of the Eiffel Tower. To kick things off, the
best in the business molded sweet stuff into couture dresses. "The
dress is all in chocolate, it is a true sweet,“ French chocolatier Jeffrey Cagnes said. "The difficulty with it is to keep it in place for a long time, it is hot in here, it lasts a short while and starts to melt.”
The
culinary artists turned fashion designers created a minidress inspired
by Alexander McQueen with appliquéd butterflies, a geometric gown
seemingly inspired by Legos, a cowgirl hat, and a wedding gown for the
alternative and hungry bride. There was even a naked dress
because these creations were not only delicious, they were also on
trend. What could be better than being able to wear a beautiful dress
and eat it too? Maybe a dress made of chocolate and cheese.
