An aide of the Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson, has dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for the opposition, All Progressive Congress (APC).
Governor Seriake Dickson
The aide, Prince Ebitemi Amgbare, who is the General Manager of Bayelsa State Transport Authority also resigned his appointment to formally decamp to the APC. According to National Mirror, he said his political future is not tied to Governor Dickson or Alamieyeiseigha.

“I am convinced that the APC is where my political future is in Bayelsa. Alamieyeiseigha took me to defunct AC and left me there. It is time a father does his own thing and the son does what is right for his political future” the report quoted him.

He said he decided to return to the APC because of a personal decision and dismissed the insinuations that he may not find sound footing within the APC due to past relationship with Chief Sylva and his relationship with Alamieyeiseigha. He said his relationship with former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva remains cordial and filled with mutual respect.
“I recognise him as the leader of the APC in Bayelsa and he should also recognize that the role I played during the events that led to the annulment of his election was due to party loyalty.

“Sylva was also loyal to the APC that was why he joined forces with the progressives and sack the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. My party at that time, the AC used the various election petitions, including mine against Sylva, as a test case to prove that the former Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, boss, Muarice Iwu, was not fit to head the commission. It was those court decisions, including the annulment of Sylva’s election that led to the removal of Iwu and the coming of Professor Attahiru Jega,”  he said.
Hon. Amgbare, was the flag bearer of the defunct Action Congress, AC, during the 2007 gubernatorial poll in the state.
Seriake Dickson, is currently for allegedly forging sensitive national documents in the process of buying hacking solutions for the Italian firm.

Ahead of December 2 governorship election in Bayelsa state, a group, Niger Delta People’s Movement (NDPM), has canvassed votes for ex-governor Timipre Sylva.
This view was expressed in Yenagoa, the state’s capital by the group’s spokesperson, Ibifuro Tatua.
Tatua said: “Bayelsa State needs an effective leader. Sylva represents very different vision for the future of the state. He has a vision that will finally defeat the unethical, incompetent Seriake Dickson led PDP leadership in the next election.”
The Nation reported that the NDPM spokesperson called on residents of the state not to be carried away by the alleged endorsement of certain aspirants.

She condemned those that are attacking Sylva, pointing out that their condemnation was aimed at deferring the ex-governor from contesting the governorship election.
Tatua said that the misguided attacks by some self-acclaimed leaders and their backers would never deter Sylva from becoming the governor of the state.
She said: “Bayelsans have a choice in December to pick someone who can bring about a new direction in the state, or someone who seems to want to lead because they think they are entitled to lead. Bayelsa needs a new direction, and Sylva represents that direction.
The mouthpiece of the group explained that Sylva would go beyond providing critical infrastructure, paying salaries, gratuities, pensions, employing large number of qualified people into the civil service and financing the education of thousands in local and foreign universities.
Sylva will complete abandoned and all on-going projects in the state. He will find solution to the problems of the state, inculcate positive values like honesty, hard work, and fairness and ensure social justice and good governance in the state.

“He will also encourage the poor and powerless to take part in the government of the communities and the state, promote grassroots economic development, prevent environmental degradation, help the poor people develop a clearer understanding of the social, political and economic factors affecting their lives, make the development process more accountable, transparent and participatory as well as provide conducive atmosphere for local and foreign investors.
“Sylva is committed to ushering in a brand new way of doing things for the state. He will get Bayelsa’s economic house in order, by ensuring progressive spending and social engineering policies in place,” Tatua said.

Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, former Bayelsa state governor, has come under attack on Wednesday, August 5, for calling All Progressives Congress a Northern and Western party.
Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha
Alamieyesigha had reportedly said this in different fora that, Peoples Democratic Party belong to the Ijaws noting that allowing the APC win the December 5, governorship election would amount to conquering the Ijaw nation.
Reacting to the ex-governor’s assertion, an APC chieftain, Preye Aganaba, told Bayelsa to disregard Alamieyeseigha statement, stressing that his party is a national party.
Aganaba said: “The APC is a national party that cuts across all geopolitical zones. The party has been widely received and Bayelsans have demonstrated their readiness to embrace the change mantra.”

According to The Nation, the APC stalwart reminded the ex-governor that the people of the state will no longer identify with the failures of the past, reminding him that the language of change knows no barriers and tribes.
Aganaba, who contested for the Bayelsa central senatorial election in the last general polls said the likes of Alamieyeseigha is no longer in reckoning in the state.
He urged the people of the state to support his party’s candidate who will soon emerged after primary election.
Aganaba wondered why it took the PDP such a long time to come up with the reconciliatory strategy when it is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the umbrella is torn beyond repair in Bayelsa State.

He said: “It is ironic that the party that failed to bring the warring factions together before the last National Assembly and House of Assembly elections could be doing so now that the majority of the party members have decided to join the moving train of the unstoppable APC in the state.
“Persons who have decided to move to APC should not be fooled by the antics of the PDP which is to use and dump them. They should actualise the dreams of identifying with the change revolution that is blowing across the country.”

Dame Patience Jonathan, former First Lady, has caused tension in Bayelsa state in the build up to the forthcoming governorship election.
Patience is reportedly making moves to hijack the Bayelsa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Sun reports that a group simply known as the ‘Forum For Political Freedom in Bayelsa State’ (FOPOF) accused Patience for using her unlawfully acquired wealth to fund and create a power bloc in the APC in the state, using members of the defunct Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria whom she similarly used to weaken the leadership of the opposition party in the state in the period leading up to the last presidential poll which her husband lost.
Elder Adenzi Kakarite, a leader of the group has released a statement which reads in part: ”The former First Lady is very greedy and selfish by wanting to sponsor the candidates of both the PDP and the APC, so that she can continue to milk the state dry.
”Bayelsans must rise up and resist this woman, who clearly does not mean well for Bayelsa state, because she was partly the reason for the husband’s defeat in the last presidential election; and since she couldn’t succeed at the national level, she wants to come and force a governor of her choice down our throats. No, we must resist it”.

It should be noted that Bayelsa is one of Nigeria’s seven states with its own electoral calendar due to past annulments of elections.

As the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa state continues to gain momentum, there are indications that former first lady Dame Patience Jonathan has surprisingly thrown her weight behind the immediate past governor of Bayelsa state Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a report on The Sun, the wife of former president Goodluck Jonathan maybe indirectly backing Sylva following a directive to her group in a meeting asking them not to support the re-election of Henry Seriake Dickson, the incumbent governor.
It was gathered that when some of the people at the meeting raised observation as to the possibility of working for Sylva when the former president Jonathan had openly declared support for Dickson, Dame Jonathan reportedly told them that Jonathan won’t support Dickson when the chips are down.

According to the report, Dame Jonathan prefers Dr. Weripamowei Dudafa, former presidential aide to Goodluck Jonathan and commissioner for local government under Sylva to incumbent governor Dickson.
Former president Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, Ex-vice president Namadi Sambo and former baylesa gov, Timipre Sylva
It was gathered that the meeting was attended by Werinipre Seibarugu, former acting governor of the state and chairman of the defunct Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) in Bayelsa state, Dr. Dudafa, former commissioners for transport and sports, Marie Ebikake, Ebikitin Diongoli, Remi Kuku and a host of others.
This development comes as a shock to many as while the former president also during the run up to the presidential election in March put an end to speculations about a frosty relationship between him and Dickson who he tacitly endorsed for re-election in 2016.

Following the alleged death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, traditionalists in Ile-Ife, Osun state, have declared a seven-day sacred traditional Oro festival.
During the seven-day period of the festival, residents of the ancient town, especially women must not stay outside beyond p.m.
Though the reason for the declaration of the Oro festival was not known, informed sources believe it might be in connection with the alleged death of the traditional ruler of the town, the Ooni of Ife, which his chiefs have continued to dismiss and described as mere rumour, The Nation reports.
Some other sources however, said that the festival had nothing to do with the alleged death of the Ooni.

It was gathered from sources that the traditionalists would use the 7-day period to appease the gods and perform necessary rituals that would make the town to enjoy peace and also avert looming danger in Ife and its environs.
According to the sources, whoever violates the traditional order of the oro festival will have themselves to blame for the dire consequence.
The sources who pleaded anonymity claimed that this year edition of the festival only coincided with the “rumoured death” of the town’s monarch.
To prove that Oba Sijuwade is alive, they said: “There is a door that remained closed during the life time of a sitting monarch, and since the door remained closed, it means that the monarch is presumed to be alive.

The closure of markets to business and ringing of a special bell to announce the death of the monarch are two major significant signs to show that a monarch has joined his ancestors and these are yet to be done.”
surfaced during the week but the Royal Traditional Council (RTC) of the town, on Wednesday,  July 29, stated that the paramount ruler is alive and in good state of health.
Meanwhile, major markets in the ancient town have remain opened, as commercial and economic activities continued.
Also, the Ooni palace at Enuwa was calm and devoid of the usual human and vehicular traffic, except for the presence of the private guards and about four police men manning the gates of the palace.
Despite the denial of Oba’s death, the Premium Times reports that the body of Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuwade, has arrived his palace in Ile Ife, Osun state.
Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuade Okunade
However, authorities and prominent Ile-Ife personalities insist the Oba is alive, and is hale and hearty.
Insiders in palace said on August, 1 that the remains of the paramount ruler left London in a hired air ambulance on Friday and was taken to the palace under the cover of night.

According to the sources, the body is now lying in a secret part of the palace named Ilegbo, a sacred place where all Oonis gather with their relatives.
Ilegbo reportedly is the place where highly-prized rituals take place within the parturiency of the palace.
It is also the place where the Are covered with crown, worn yearly by the Ooni, is kept.
Only the monarch’s male children, highly ranked priests and chiefs are reportedly permitted to enter that inmost places of the palace and sight the Ooni’s body.
“Even the Oba’s female children can’t come here, tradition does not allow them to sight the Oba at this time,” one of the sources said.
Palace sources said the announcement of the Oba’s death had to be postponed to let his wives and family members move their personal property from the palace, and for the traditional clerics to perform some “compulsory rituals”.

“Members of his family who were with him in London had to hurry back home to remove their personal effects because once his death is declared all their property will belong to the people. They won’t be able to take anything from the palace anymore,” another source said.
It should be noted that after the supposed death of the Ooni of Ife

Following the alleged death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, members of a fraternity reportedly entered into Oduduwa shrine and other sacred forests on Thursday, August 6, to perform further rites on his transition.
According to This Day, a source in Ile-Ife disclosed that all the heads of the fraternity groups in the town which the monarch belonged to, had been asked to start invoking their gods and also perform necessary rites for the royal father.
The source added that at the shrines of the deities, the traditionalists had been assigned specific duties in regards to the sacrifices that would be suitable for the transition of Sijuwade.
A source close to the palace, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said those who have been assigned specific duties are Osogun, Obalara, Lana and Emese. They are all said to be operating under “Isoro” deity, which is the father of all deities in the land.

He also gave the name of the head of Isoro deity as Obadio, saying he is also in charge of dialect and languages of gods and goddesses of the land.
Isoro is the custodian of all other deities, while Obalara is said to be in charge of Obalufon shrine, while Emese, who is supposed to spread the news of the developments had been reportedly told to be alert to perform its own duty as well according to the tradition of the town.
At the weekend, t, believed to be in connection with the rumoured death of the monarch. However, his chiefs have continued to dismiss the death of the Ooni, describing it as mere rumour.
According to report, because Isoro cult members, who are carrying out the necessary rituals on the late monarch, are yet to give their nod that the death be made public.
