What can be regarded as an unfortunate tragedy recently occurred in Ajegunle, Lagos state, when a peacemaker in an attempt to separate two fighting neighbours lost his life.
Kunle Abiola met his untimely death in the hands of one of the fighters as he tried to restore peace between the warring neighbours.
The killer, who was identified as one Chinomso, confessed he stabbed Abiola after he was nabbed by the police.
According to a report on Daily Post, Chinomso revealed that he never thought of stabbing the deceased to death, saying it was accidental.

It was gathered that two neighbours were quarrelling over a minor issue which later resulted into exchange of blows. Abiola was said to have tried to restore peace when he was stabbed to death in the process.
A resident identified as Ibrahim said: “He stabbed Abiola in the jaw and chest. Some people called the police and Chinomso was arrested. Abiola was rushed to the General Hospital at Ajegunle.”
Abiola gave up the ghost on his way to the hospital.
However, the state police spokesperson, Kenneth Nwosu, could not confirm the incident as he is yet to receive any of such report.
Meanwhile, in another sad development, a 14-sitter boat conveying school children capsized on Wednesday, July 1, along the Ojo Irewe waterways in Lagos. Six of them reportedly drowned, while eight of them including the driver were rescued.

Something very interesting happened at the Ozar secondary school, Asa in Ukwa West local government area of Abia state recently.
A JSS two student, Precious Nwadike, stormed the school with her mother and elder siblings to attack teachers and students, after she was sent home by a teacher, Mrs Njoku.

According to a report on Laila’s Blog, on June 8, Monday, Precious had been sent home to cut her hair by the teacher.
Instead of complying, she went home and regrouped, returning about two hours later with her mother, Mrs Nwadike and four of her siblings, who marched straight to the staff room, commanding the teachers to come out.
Prior to the incident, about two weeks ago, the student had been asked to cut her hair but she turned a deaf ear.

After commanding the teachers to come out, Mrs Nwadike reportedly held a teacher, pulled her cloth and ordered the sons to cut her hair.
When another teacher, Mrs Osuagwu tried to intervene, she was almost strangled by one of the sons.

Some other students then joined in the free for all fight, causing chaos in the school and disrupting academic activities.
According to youth corps member serving in the school who pleaded anonymity, she had to inform the military personnel, who swiftly arrived at the school and doused the tension.

Report has it that Mrs Nwadike and her children were taken to the Obehie police station while the teachers and students, who sustained injuries were taken to obehie Health Center for treatment by Mrs F.N Nwachukwu, the principal of the school.

The Enugu state police command has locked up the Mount Street Parish of Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria after two pastors and their loyalists engaged in a free-for-all fight.
The two pastors and their supporters fought over who should take control of the parish.
Apparently there has been an ongoing crisis in the church for more than three years as two persons, Professor Paul Emeka and Dr. Chidi Okoroafor are each laying claims to the leadership of the church, a position known as General Superintendent, a matter that is currently before the Supreme Court, Vanguard reports.
The drama was said to have started on Sunday, July 19, when one of the pastors, Rev. Nathaniel Udeze, came with letters of posting and other court documents as part of preparations to be installed as the new pastor at the parish.

According to him, he had been officially posted there by the leadership of the church under Rev. Paul Emeka, adding that Rev. Amaechi Agbo had been transferred to another parish since May 2015.
He was however resisted by Rev, Agbo and his supporters, who accused him of being an intruder and vowed not to allow him take over.
The trouble degenerated when supporters of both pastors arrived and started sharing different versions of Sunday school manual in preparation for the main service.
Both pastors threw caution to the wind and reportedly started shoving each other and their supporters followed suit, engaging in fisticuffs.

The police had to be called to restore order. On arrival, the divisional police officer, Dennis Ayara tried to calm the warring parties but all his efforts to bring the situation under control proved futile.
The led to the eventual shutdown of the church premises as the police cordoned off the place and put it under lock, while the leaders of the two factions were asked to report to the station.

Blinken said the meeting of the two presidents opens an opportunity for Nigeria and America not only to recommence but to deepen their relationship.

“The question is, would there be an opportunity to deepen our engagement and that opportunity is now,” Blinken told Reuters.
US has seen President Buhari’s four-day stay as a chance to “reset” its connections with Nigeria’s economy.
The visit is viewed by the U.S. government as an opportunity to set the seal on improving ties since Buhari took the office on May 29, 2015.
American collaboration with Nigerian former leader Jonathan went sour over among other matters, his denial to probe corruption and human rights abuses by the army.
“President (Barack Obama) has long seen Nigeria as arguably the most important strategic country in sub-Saharan Africa,” Blinken added.

Since Buhari’s victory, United States have committed $5 million in new support for a Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) set up to fight the deadly Boko Haram sect.
A senior U.S. official, who spoke on a matter, said: “We’ve made clear there are additional things that can be done, especially now that there is a new military leadership in place,”
On his own turn President Buhari had named the reinforcement of the economy, boosting of investments and tackling “the biggest monster of all” – corruption as his priorities.
President Buhari has left Nigeria on July 19, Sunday with 33-men entourage.
The Nigerian president will later hold further discussions with the Chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey and the Deputy Secretary of Defence, Robert Work on military and defence cooperation.

It would be recalled that after the shift of the the general elections from February to March, the APC’s candidate Buhari granted the interview to Aljazeera on February 8.
During the interview, Buhari was talking about elections and main Nigeria’s challenges such as corruption, the Boko Haram, economy crisis.

Buhari made a blunder when he named the INEC as the Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission. He also referred to his party as the ”All Progressives Confidence”.
