Getting into a lifetime union is certainly not something that should be taken lightly. You must be mentally, emotionally and physically ready to take this step.
Are you in a serious relationship and you are a little bit unclear on whether or not it is time for you to settle down. Naij.com presents signs that you are ready to take this big step below.
1. You and Your Partner are Compatible: Do you feel connected to your partner (even outside the bedroom)? It is important that you feel you and your partner blend well together and complement each other. Your weakness should be her strength and vice versa.
2. He/She is Your Friend: It is important that your partner should be the one person you can talk to about anything and everything. A lot of marriages have been threatened due to the fact that one or both partners have been emotionally dependent on someone outside their marriage. You should have each other as confidante and you should never be shy to share everything, even the hard times.

3. You Are Planning A Marriage: It is so easy to get caught up in the wedding planning stage that you forget to actually plan your marriage. You and your partner need to sit down and make plans about what the marriage would be like. How many kids you would have, would you have kids right away, where you would live etc, are questions that ought to have been asked and answered to prove you are both ready for this step. Do not get caught up in the fantasy of a wedding that you forget the big picture.
4. No Confusion: If you have to talk yourself or your fiance into marriage, then you are not ready for this. Marriage should be a union willingly entered by both parties. If all you do is try to convince each other that this is a good idea, then it probably isn’t.

5. Friends/Family Approve: In Nigeria, you do not just marry a person, you marry into their family. So, it is very important that people closest to your partner like you and approve of the union. If any of the family members have problems with your getting married, it is crucial that you have a sit-down and rectify these issues as best as you can to avoid future complications.
6. Trust: In a marriage, you simply have to trust your partner, but before you actually tie the knots, you should also trust that all the information given to you by him/her is true. Trust begins long before you say “I do”, so make sure you believe in your partner before binding yourselves in holy matrimony.

7. Financially Ready: Whether you are a man or a woman, it is highly important that you both have some financial plans for your marriage. Will you both be working? Does your income complement the lifestyle you want? Most marriages end due to financial complications and this often happens when the partners do not communicate. How you spend money is a huge part of how strong your marriage would be, do not overlook it.

There are several things a woman would want in a man she is considering having a relationship with or marrying, but there are some basic ones that tells them the man could make a good partner.
Naij.com approached a few Nigerian women and asked them to share their most preferred attributes in a partner.
Here are the top 5 things they believe a good husband candidate should have.
1. God-Fearing:
There is no two-way about it, a man who intends to lead a home should be God-fearing and humble to the Lord. He should be spiritually led so that he can also lead his family right. He should have faith and believe in God as much as I do (even more),” says Livina, 32.

2. Successful:
While I won’t say I am very materialistic, I think that whoever I am married to should be successful to a large extent. He should have a stable source of income and be able to provide the basic necessities for his family. It is important that a man should be a provider, and it is only such a man that a woman would respect,”  says Lola, 26.
3. Kindness:
It is important that the man I marry be kind and caring. These are the things that women respond to the most and I would want someone that would care for me. He should be sensitive to me as a woman and willing to understand me,” says Becky, 28.
4. Family Values:
31-year-old Dayo said: “I want a man that not only respect and loves his family, but would also love and respect mine. In this part of the world, when you marry someone, you marry their family also and I would want a man who considers my family as important as he considers me.”

5. Honesty:
I will like to marry a man that i can trust. Honesty and integrity are very important to me and I think it is highly crucial, when forming a lifetime bond with a person, that you can trust and believe in them,” says Anne, 24.

Some days back, Naij.com provided you with the 10 kinds of women men should avoid getting married to.
Well, it is not just the men who should be wary when it comes to choosing a life partner, a woman should also keep her eyes open.
Below are the 10 kinds of men women should think twice about tying the knot with.
1. The Abusive Man: Be it physically or emotionally abusive, no woman should have put up with an abusive man. If you notice the man you are dating seems temperamental to the point of abuse, then it is best you leave that relationship before things get more serious.
2. The Dishonest Man: Have you noticed that he lies about a lot of things, even things that do not really matter? Some men are perpetual liars and thinking about settling down with such a man would only bring you more heartbreak.
3. The Unambitious Man: A man who hopes to support his family someday should have some type of plan. When the man you are with does not seem to have any sort of idea of what he wants to do with his life, then it is best to get off that relationship train. A man should be a leader in his family, but if he does not know where he is headed, how would he be able to lead right?

4. The Commitment-Phobe: Just like there are some women who have issues with committing to anything, we also have men who are this way. If he is afraid of commitment then it is no use convincing him that committing to a marriage is a good idea.
5. The Cheat: Does he cheat on you time and time again? Does he always seem to be looking for the next lay even while he professes his love to you? Then it is a bad idea to consider such a man for marriage. Cheats hardly change who they are, no matter how many times they promise they will.
6. The Stingy Man: A man who finds it difficult to be generous with his material possessions, even when he has more than enough to share, might not be the best family-man. Marriage involves a lot of sharing and if he is too self obsessed to see the needs of someone else, that union would end up being one-sided.
7. The Addict: Any addiction becomes an extra work for the partner involved. If you suspect he might be an alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, sex, etc addict, then it is better to save yourself future pain and unhappiness by looking for someone else. Dating an addict automatically puts you and your family in second place. Something else will always come first and this would usually have an adverse effect on you and your marriage.

8. The Insecure Man: Does he always seem jealous or insecure of anything and anybody you come in contact with? Trust is very important in a relationship and even more crucial in a marriage. If he is always suspicious of every single person that comes close to you, then think twice about being in a lifetime partnership with him. A marriage would not last long if one partner consistently suspect the other one of being unfaithful.
9. The Disrespectful Man: A man who is disrespectful to you or even everyone in general would not make a good husband. Respect is very important in every relationship and if you constantly feel disrespected, then it certainly would not lead to a happy home.
10. The Mommy’s Boy: A healthy love for his mother is always very important when it comes to choosing a partner but if he cannot so much as decide what to have for breakfast without consulting his mother, then perhaps, this is a union you should reconsider. In a marriage, decisions are made between the man and the wife. Of course, it is normal to seek advice from others but the final decision has to come from the two people in a marriage. If anyone outside of the marriage threatens this dynamic, there is always going to be a problem.

Being married is certainly not a life step that should be taken lightly. But often times, people do it for all the wrong reasons and it ends up leading to a bitter marriage or even divorce.
12 Wrong Reasons To Get Married
African Couple
These reasons below are the worst reasons to settle down.
1. You Are Afraid To Lose Him/Her:  Using fear as a reason to get married is completely wrong. If you are that unsure of your relationship, then being apart is simply a better bet.
READ ALSO: ONLINE DATING: How To Make Her Love You Before You Meet
2. Friends And Family Pressure: You will always have family members or friends that put pressure on you to to settle down because they think it is time.
You need to realize that these people would not be in the marriage with you and they certainly would not directly feel the consequences of a broken marriage. Only take this step because you think it is time.
3. You Are Getting Older: Yes, yes, the infamous biological clock is ticking away and reminding you that you are running out of time.
But, you should know that once you are in a bad marriage, you would be so much worse off and wished you had waited for the right person as opposed to settling for the wrong person because you think time was running out.
4. You Feel You Owe Him/Her: Did he pay your way through school? Did she hang in there through your strip club days and your cheating ways? Getting married because you feel you owe your partner a debt is also a terrible idea.
Get married because you absolutely and completely want to and you would feel much more satisfied with your choice.
5. For Material Security: This does not just refer to women who settle down with rich men just because they do not want to worry about money.
These days, some men actually choose to go for women from rich homes/background, perhaps due to promises of wealth from the woman’s parents or the feeling that the woman can solve any money-related problems that come up.
Such marriage would not work out because one person will no doubt feel used and might decide to act out or be disrespectful.

6. You Are Bored: You should also not get married simply because you have nothing else going on in your life. Do not just assume that marriage would provide you all the companionship you need simply because you are uncomfortable with your own company.
Focus on your personal growth, find a hobby, start a business, grow your career, and when the time is right, you would meet your true partner.
7. To Get Over An Ex: Did you just hear that your ex has gotten married? Did you just go through a terrible break-up and you think jumping into a lifetime commitment will heal your broken heart?
Well, this is really wrong. When you do eventually get over the ex (and you will) all you would be left with is a partner you do not love and the feeling of total regret.
8. Pregnancy: Just because you are pregnant, or she is pregnant for you is not enough reason to commit to forever.
This might sound like a good solution at first but in the marriage, you would notice your partner is simply a mother/father to the child and not a wife/husband to you since the child is the only foundation of your relationship.
9. You Have Been Dating Forever: So you have been together for years and years and tying the knots seems like the perfect solution. Sometimes, it isn’t.
When it is time to decide marriage, take another look at your relationship and consider how it will change if you make it official and bring children into it.
Be as honest as possible with yourself and your partner. Do not just start planning a wedding because you think that is the next step.
10. All Your Friends Are Doing It: As humans, we cannot help but compare ourselves to our mates as we progress. We worry about making sure we are where we think we are supposed to be because all our friends are already there. But marriage is a completely personal decision.
Just because everyone around you seem to be jumping in does not mean you should just close your eyes, pick someone and jump in too. Take your time and make sure you, and you alone feel you are ready for the step before taking it.

11. Your Families Get Along: You might have started dating someone because he/she is a family friend or because your families get along perfectly, but this is no reason to make vows to be loyal and faithful to him/her forever. Make sure you are doing it because you both feel ready, in love, and connected with each other
12. You Think It Is The Next Step: You just completed your education, or you just got that big promotion at work. You just bought your first home or you just hit a particular age. Whatever your reason, do not get married just because you think it is the next thing to do. Marriage should not be on some to-do list that you have.
A lot of individuals have married without being prepared emotionally, mentally, spiritually, psychologically and materially and as a result, marriage vows are not kept and thereby a collapse of the union.

Emir Faruk praised the achievements and the work of President Buhari, and expressed optimism that his leadership would bring Nigeria to a better future.

Faruk later presented a gold-plated sword and a horse to the president to symbolise his appointment as Bayajidda II.

Saraki was in Abeokuta to consult with the former president popularly called “Ebora Owu” over the 8th Senate and other national issues.
According to The Nation, Saraki’s visit might be part of his efforts to use his connections to prevail on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to accept his emergence as Senate President.
The former governor of Kwara state, assumed his current position through an election that was not approved by his party, as they had endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan form Yobe state for the position.
Saraki had to depend majorly on votes from the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which further irked his party.
Saraki arrived Obasanjo’s home by 9:11 am  and he was ushered into Obasanjo’s inner chamber for private discussions.
In his entourage were Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Senators Andy Uba, Sanni Yerima, Ben Muray Bruce, Alaso Adura and Danjuma Goje.  Former Governor of Osun state, Prince  Olagunsoye Oyinlola was also part of Saraki’s entourage.
Sources close to the Obasanjo’s home said the discussion would focus on how Saraki can promote unity in the 8th Senate, and make peace with the APC leaders among other issues.
Meanwhile, the senate and the APC might face another round of crisis over principal positions in the upper chamber.

President Muhammadu Buhari has denied to meet tet-a-tet with Senate President Bukola Saraki two weeks after he won this position.

Following the president’s snub, Senate President reportedly organised a quiet visit to Vice President Yemi Osibanjo to give excuses for an abusive comment he had made in the heat of his high-stakes tactics to win the leadership of the National Assembly by striking a union with the opposition.
Top APC members said that Saraki had turned down an invitation by VP Osibanjo to discuss his controversial pursuit of the Senate Presidency by noting disdainfully that “a mere commissioner” could not summon him to a meeting.
Vice President, an ex-commissioner in Lagos state, had wanted to meet with Senator Saraki in order to resolve a crisis that appeared from the latter’s scheme to outmaneuver his party.
On his own turn President Buhari had publicly accepted Saraki’s emergence as Senate President. Even so, Buhari has denied to do anything that would amount to a public proof of Saraki’s victory.
Two subordinates of Nigeria’s leader said that Buhari shared the APC’s discouragement with Saraki’s union with the opposition to snatch up the top senate position.

One of the sources said: “The fact of the matter is that the president will not abandon the party’s position altogether.”
“Mr. President has never been comfortable anyway with Dr. Saraki since is well known as a corrupt person who will try to hinder the administration’s fight against corruption,” another added.
There were reports that Senator Saraki, annoyed by Buhari’s denial to meet with him, reached out to ex-president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to beg for help with the president.
Meanwhile, President Buhari was not affected by Saraki’s reasons for conspiring with the PDP to gain power as Senate President.

Aisha Buhari Moves To Aso Rock, Waits For President
Aisha Buhari hosts a dinner for the APC’s ladies at the Aso Rock.
A correspondent of The Punch gathered that the formal relocation of the president’s wife to the presidential villa was in the evening of Thursday, June 18, while her husband was travelling home for Ramadan.
“She had relocated ahead of her husband. She passed the night here,” an unnamed source at the Buhari administration told the reporter.
The Aso Rock was more busy than usual on Friday. Some exotic cars were parked in front of the premises. This may mean that some honourable guests were paying a visit to Aisha Buhari.
Another source at the administration said that the president was expected to join his wife and relocate from the Defence House by Monday. Buhari is currently on his “private trips”, and is expected back this weekend.
Vice President Osinbajo and his wife have not relocated to the villa yet. Their plans remain unclear.

There has been much speculation on why the new president does not move to the Aso Rock. Some representatives of the “yellow press” have even suggested that “a spiritual cleansing” was in process there. However, the true reason was given by the presidential spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, and was of a terrestrial nature:
“As far as the president is concerned, the place (his official residence) is not ready yet. Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place. Once the exercise is completed, the president will move in.”
