Giant Man Marries Tiny Woman, Planning To Have Baby

A 2m 30cm man who was so embarrassed about his height he spent half his life hiding away at home, has now found love – with a woman almost 1 meter smaller than him in Paraiba, Brazil.
Joelison Fernandes da Silva has been described as Brazil’s gentle giant and is officially the country’s tallest man, after he developed gigantism as a child. Despite his towering stature, he was bullied as a teen and, after dropping out of school, became a virtually recluse to avoid people’s stares.

Joelison and Evem meet in the middle
However, since having an operation at the age of 21 to remove a benign tumour on his pituitary gland, his condition is now under control and he has grown in confidence. He even became a bit of a celebrity in his hometown and began to attract admirers, including 21-year-old Evem Medeiros, whose height is just 1m 52cm.

We reckon he might want to upsize his car though
But difference in size is no obstacle to their romance. Joelison says of Evem: “The day I saw her I think it was love at first sight. I was charmed by her. I wanted to be with her all the time. It didn’t matter about her size. She was basically my first woman. The first woman of my life. I was 28. I thought everything about her was beautiful – but especially her eyes. She is very caring. She doesn’t show it when the cameras are here but she is caring and truthful.”

A year after their first date they got married and now trying for a baby, which has brought some unwelcome questions about Joelison’s proportions. Aside from family planning they also struggle to work together on basic chores like cooking, cleaning and shopping as Joelison’s height makes it difficult for him to stand up for long periods of time.

Evem and Joelison admit they get a lot of awkward questions about their love life
There’s only one cloud on the horizon for the happy couple – Joelison’s mother, who is struggling to let ‘her baby’ go. She said: “I got really jealous when he got married because I dedicated my life to him and when I had to share him with someone else it really wasn’t easy – but as a mother I want him to be happy. With his treatment, I’m still the one who takes care of that, I haven’t delegated it to that girl yet. But I will once she gets used to things.”

Joelison with his parents Jose and Ivanilda, hid himself away as a child
Joelison still has monthly injections and four-types of daily medication to control his condition and is likely to need even more care as he gets older. However, he has still plans to fulfil many of his dreams, including having a family and travelling abroad.

MASSOB To UN: Let Us Go

For the umpteenth time, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has again called on the United Nations (UN) to pass a resolution recognising the South- East of Nigeria as a State of Biafra.
According to The Sun, the organization said recognising Biafra would be in conformity with the recognition given the territory in the late 60s by some countries during her struggle for self-determination.

National Assistant Director of Information of the movement, Sunday Okereafor, in a statement, said the out come of the 2015 general elections in the country was nothing but a repeat of the 1960s in which two of the three major blocs in the country conspired against the South-East, culminating in the civil war that claimed the lives of many Igbo.
He stated that with the present political marriage between the North and South- West, Ndigbo had no place in the political arrangement of today’s Nigeria, emphasising that in the present circumstance, it would be expedient for the UN to recognize Biafra as a sovereign state.
Last week, the Ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo had a private meeting with the leader of the MASSOB, Ralph Uwazurike at Buguma Toru LGA of Rivers State recently.
Also recently, MASSOB warned the former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, to desist from making derogatory statements about the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
The warning came after a statement by General Danjuma that Ojukwu could have averted the bloodbath in the Biafran war if he had given up following the fall of Enugu during the Nigerian civil war.

People Tell What Actually Happens When You Die

What does it feel like to die? People who have been clinically dead and then revived have shared some chilling insights into what actually happens in those final moments – and beyond.
1. My world became soft and foggy and everything faded to black. Next thing I remember was opening my eyes and hearing a Doctor say, ‘We got him back.’ It was really a peaceful feeling more than anything.
2. Overdosed on heroin, the Emergency Room team said my heart stopped. Didn’t see anything, just like sleeping with no dreams.
People Tell What Actually Happens When You Die
What does it feel like to die? Agony or peace?
3. It felt to me that my entire life was a silly show I was focused on and forgot that it was simply a distraction from what was REALLY happening. I fell out of the 3rd dimension into…another dimension? I know it sounds crazy but maybe it was just chemicals in my head that created all the visuals. I’m not sure.

4. I was stabbed and shot three times 30 years ago. When I hit the floor (the last bullet hit my spine and left me a paraplegic) I was enveloped in the brightest white light and had a peace like I have never felt before or since. I was not scared, just at peace but then I suddenly breathed in a deep breath and woke up.
5. I overdosed on sleeping medication my freshman year in college. I was legally dead for three minutes(or so I was told). I do remember a little bit of the ambulance ride, but not from my own body. It was seriously the strangest thing I have ever experienced. It could have been a dream, but I saw my own unconscious body, completely flatlined, in the ambulance.
6. Pure, perfect, uninterrupted sleep, no dreams. Man was I pissed off when I was brought back.

7. I overdosed and had no pulse for 3-4 minutes. I remember feeling tired when everything kicked in, then a few spotty memories of chatting with friends, then I was standing in front of a giant wall of light. It stretched up, down, left and right as far as i could see. Kind of like putting your eyes six inches from a fluorescent lightbulb. The next memory I have is waking up in the hospital.
8. My friend had died when he was in his late teens. He told me he was in a dark room where nothing was happening. He was only dead for about a minute but he said it felt like an eternity. At first he thought it might be purgatory, but the longer it went on the more it felt like he had gone to hell.

9. I was unresponsive and on life support, I remember being on an eerie train, something was holding me back, I kept screaming to Jesus that I wanted to live… it wasn’t a good place. I believe I was in purgatory. I came out of my coma three days later. I still remember to this day.
 10. It feels like fainting, but much worse. Your vision goes completely black and you can no longer see even with your eyes wide open. Your legs and arms go limp, and numb, and feel very heavy and you can no longer move them. Hearing is the last to go, but the people around you sound far away and distant, and soon that fades to nothing. Your last split second of thoughts is one of fear and regret about dying and missing out on everything that will come after you have passed away and will never be alive and living in the world again.
People Tell What Actually Happens When You Die
No suffering. No more fears. No more cares. No more worries. It is just nothing at all.
And then poof, your consciousness is snuffed out, and you cease to exist. There is no heaven. No hell. There is nothing. But also, at that moment, there is no pain. No suffering. No more fears. No more cares. No more worries. It is just nothing at all. And you are gone forever. Other animals and plants will use your atoms to make their own bodies and they will live on, but you will never know you are a part of them now. They will have their own lives to lead. Yours is over now. And you will never live again.

Unidentified gunmen on Saturday stormed the home of the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, and carted away an undisclosed amount of money after destroying the safe kept in one of his rooms.

It was learnt that the gunmen, 10 in number, were dressed in police uniform. They were said to have stormed his residence in Okaka Estate, Yenagoa, around 8pm.

It was learnt that when the robbers came, the three policemen guarding the residence of the Presidential aide were not around.

The gunmen were said to have gained entry into Dudafah ‘s residence after telling the security men (civilians) that they were policemen from the police headquarters.

When they got into the premises, they were said to have grabbed the Chief guard, Muhammed Garba, tying his legs, his hands and covering his eyes and mouth.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the attack on Dudafah’s home was politically motivated.

He said the incident took place few minutes after results of some rescheduled House of Assembly elections were released and Dudafah’s candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance defeated his Peoples Democratic Party opponent in Kolokuma-Opokuma constituency.

Narrating his ordeal, Garba, who said he had been working with Dudafah for eight years, said the suspects came in two black Sport Utility Vehicles.

He said , “The robbers knocked on the door, saying, Where is the security man, where is the security man? When I asked who they were, they said they were policemen. They asked the whereabouts of the police security operatives in Dudafah residence.

“They ordered me to open the gate. I opened the small gate and saw about 10 of them. They pushed me and gained entry into the premises. They hit me in the head. They tied my hands, my legs and covered my mouth and eyes with celotape. They asked me to show them the apartments of police security in the building. They also asked for oga’s (Dudafa’s) house keys. I told them I did not know where they were since I was not the person keeping them.

“They said they would kill me if they eventually found the keys in my place so I kept quiet. After ransacking my room, they found the keys and started using them to open the main building.

“The man leading the operations, asked his colleagues to talk gently so that when my colleague who had gone to buy noodles at that time returned, he would not suspect something was amiss. No sooner had they said that than my colleague came in, and they caught him and tied him up.”

Garba said when the robbers had held all of them captive, they went inside the building and started ransacking everywhere.

The 55 year old Garba, a father of one, said the operations lasted for about three hours before they left around 12 midnight on Saturday.

Also, Dudafah’s cousin, Pere Ozoru, said he was sleeping in his room when the gunmen came.

He said it was the second security guard, Ibrahim, that brought them to his apartment after which they tied him up.

Ozoru said by the time the gunmen left the premises, he was able to untie himself and thereafter untied Garba and Ibrahim.

He said before the incident, three policemen used to guard the building but when asked about the whereabouts of the policemen, he said he did not know where they went that day.

He said he would not forget the day in a hurry, saying that they were battered, tied and subjected to inhuman treatment by the gunmen.

When our correspondent visited the residence on Sunday, it was discovered that most apartments in the gigantic edifice were ransacked and furniture were destroyed.

In one of the rooms, a safe was destroyed and it could not be ascertained how much was carted away from it.

Efforts to get the police’s reaction were unsuccessful as calls to the spokesman for the Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, rang out several times.

Topic: Nigeria To Overtake Uk, France In Growth By 2030 – Report (Read 4353 times)

Nigeria’s economy is to grow faster than those of France and United Kingdom by 2030, a consultancy firm, Price WaterhouseCoopers, PwC, has projected.

Making the forecast in its latest report titled: “The world in 2050: Will the shift in global economic power continue?” PwC reported that China will be the largest economy by 2030, while India may challenge the United States for second place by 2050 even as it predicted that the emerging economies of Nigeria, Indonesia and Mexico could push the UK and France out of the top ten economies of the world by the year.

The firm, however, hinged Nigeria’s and other countries’ capacities to meet the growth trajectories on the extent to which their governments are able to build their institutions to global standards, diversify their economies and sustained growth-friendly policies.

Reflecting on the report, the PwC Nigeria’s Chief Economist and co-author, Mr. Andrew S. Nevin, explained: “Nigeria’s potential advantages for future growth include a large consumer market, a strategic geographic location, and a young and highly entrepreneurial population.

“With drop in oil pric, which could thwart this possibility as a result of the attendant pressure on fiscal policy, Nigeria will need to manage the oil price decline effectively at all levels of government and create a sustainable platform for diversification into the sectors.

“We are all aware of the significant headwinds created by the rapid drop in the oil price, putting pressure on the fiscal and monetary systems, as well as reducing economic growth in the short term.

“To achieve its longterm economic potential, Nigeria will need to manage the oil price decline effectively at all levels of government and create a sustainable platform for diversification into the sectors that we know will drive the economy in the future – including power, agriculture, manufacturing, telecoms, hospitality and real estate.”

According to him, over the past decade, Nigeria has boasted superior economic growth and, with the right reforms and investments, the country could become one of the world’s leading economies by 2030, with further progress by 2050.

The report stated further that Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia are set to be notable risers with Colombia and Poland growing more strongly by 2050 than Brazil and Russia.

With a long-term projections of potential GDP growth up to 2050 for 32 of the largest economies in the world, covering 84 per cent of total global GDP, the PwC report projects insist that the current global economic power shift away from established advanced economies in North America, Western Europe and Japan will continue over the next 35 years – despite a projected slowdown in Chinese growth after around 2020.

Noting that the world economy is projected to grow at an average of just over three per cent yearly from 2014-50, doubling in size by 2037 and nearly tripling by 2050, the report which tipped China as the largest economy by 2030 on any measure, however stated that it expected China’s growth rate to slow markedly after around 2020 as its population ages and high investment rate runs into diminishing marginal returns.

“Eventual reversion to the global average has been common for past high growth economies such as Japan and South Korea and we expect China to follow suit,” it stated.

Other highlights from PwC’s projections are that India has the potential to sustain its higher growth rate for longer and become a $10 trillion economy by around 2020 in purchasing power (PP) terms, or around 2035 at market exchange rates while emerging economies like Indonesia, Brazil and Mexico have the potential to be larger than the UK and France by 2030.

OPINION: Is "Death Penalty" The Best Way To Combat Corruption

Political analyst Bayo Oluwasanmi writes on the way forward for a New Nigeria free from the cancer of corruption as Nigeria welcomes a new government on May 29.
In this piece, Bayo Oluwasanmi proffers possible solutions for the incoming government, to expunge corruption, a major cause of poverty in Nigeria, from the country.
According to the writer, thinking along the lines of a death penalty for felons is a very suitable option for fighting corruption, as it will serve as a sweet revenge for poor Nigerians who have become victims of corruption. This interesting piece was first published on Sahara Reporters.
Below is the full text of the opinion piece:
After years of toxic pollution and devastating effects from corruption, Nigeria – Africa’s most populous country – has become a wasteland. It’s not a coincidence that Nigeria is a centre for different kinds of corruption parasites.
There are corruption parasites of all kinds in Nigeria. One variety is when officials pocket budget funds for their departments. Another is when bankers embezzle depositors’ money and when the bankers collude with ministers to defraud the state. Yet another is couched in ambiguous terms such as “security vote” for governors, “stomach infrastructure,” “mobilization fee,” “constituency allowance,” and so many corruption laden bogus aliases.
The Nigerian poor is caged in all avenues, in every direction, are blocked and booby trapped by corruption. The experience of poor Nigerians is that their living is confined and shaped by forces and barriers which are not accidental or occasional hence avoidable, but initiated and entrenched by their own government.

OPINION: Is "Death Penalty" The Best Way To Combat Corruption?
Political analyst, Bayo Oluwasanmi
Look around you, you’ll find government anti-graft agencies with different alphabetical soup names that serve no purpose in fighting corruption. The anti-graft agencies are a classic case of the therapeutic treatment applied to treat disorders created by the government itself.
Corruption is both a major cause and a result of poverty in Nigeria. It occurs at all levels of our society – local, state, and national governments, civil society, judiciary functions, large and small businesses, military and other services and so on.
The poverty foisted upon our people is exclusively a creature of the government in consensual economic dealings anchored on corruption. Conditions of concentrated poverty are visible and prevalent in our neighborhoods. Nigerians bleed from corruption and like the President-elect rightly said “If we do not kill corruption in this country, corruption will kill Nigerians.” There is no better way to say this.
One of the pillars of democracy is transparency. Citizens have right to know what goes on in the government. Citizens should be given the chance to contribute their input before decisions are made on their behalf. People should have the right to probe unaccountability in government.
It is obvious that the poor are the most hard hit by corruption. Corruption undermines our political development, democracy, economic development, our people’s health and much more. At all levels corruption makes it difficult for our people to effectively participate in our democracy: the people’s interests are not represented. Corruption has made our lives more painful and unbearable.
For years and especially the Jonathan years, newspaper headlines compete for stories on ministers and other top government officials embroiled in scams that involve millions and billions. Despite the huge uproar and campaigns and deeper highlight on corruption by various organizations, little has been done to stem the tide of corruption. No one is surprised why the fight on corruption is so hard and seems impossible to fight. Indeed, our government in collusion with powerful interests have always made corruption difficult to fight.
Come May 29, President Muhammadu Buhari should make it harder for any Nigerian to embezzle millions and billions. Buhari can learn another strategy for tackling corruption from the Chinese and the Vietnamese.  In Vietnam, they don’t just send unscrupulous financiers to jail, they send them to death row. In China, corruption is punishable with the death penalty if the sums acquired illegally go beyond a certain threshold.
According to Vietnam’s Tuoi news outlet, last year Vietnam sentenced three corrupt bankers to death by firing squad. Two of the bankers on death row embezzled $25 million from the state owned Vietnam Agribank. A 57-year old former regional boss from Vietnam Development Bank, another government-run bank, was sentenced to death over a $93 million swindling job. Several of his colleagues were sentenced to life imprisonment after they confessed to securing bogus loans with a diamond ring and a BMW coupe. But for most part, Nigerian bankers whose greed nearly caused financial collapse of our banking and financial institutions and economic meltdown didn’t get indicted. They got bonuses.
The Chinese people viscerally hate corruption and are reluctant to see the death penalty dropped. They do not see why corrupt officials should benefit from foreign standards on human rights. “Corrupt officials who deserve the death sentence should all be executed by shooting. Otherwise, they will find a way to save their lives with the money they have embezzled,” says Zou Xingyu, a Chinese commentator on Tencent Weibo, a popular micro-blogging site.
Chinese criminal law states that anyone who embezzles more than 100,00 yuan ($16,340) can be sentenced to death. In 1980s 103 Chinese officials at the level of ministers or above were tried in court and 80 per cent were found guilty of bribery and embezzlement. Six were sentenced to death, 27 were given suspended to life imprisonment, and 44 were given sentences of varying lengths. In 2011, two corrupt deputy mayors of Suzhou and Hangzhou in China were sentenced to death while the head of the State Food and Drug Administration was executed for corruption.
The current level of corruption in Nigeria is systemic and widespread and calls for drastic solution. It is so entrenched that it is the rule rather than the exception. It is no exaggeration to say that few honest officials are victims in a country that lacks democracy, supervision, and a weak judicial system manned by corrupt judges. I believe the only drastic and effective deterrence to kill corruption before it wipes out Nigeria and Nigerians is to make corruption punishable by death – execution by firing squad.
By the decisive electoral victory of Buhari in the presidential elections, Nigerians seem to be saying “We’re behind you in your crusade against corruption. Do whatever it takes to kill corruption including the use of death penalty.” In our determined march toward a new Nigeria under Buhari, how about making examples of three rotten corrupt officials with high visibility – Femi Fani-Kayode, Ayo Fayose, and Doyin Okupe – known for their insane combativeness and  statements loaded with expletive epithets – as the first causalities of corruption by execution?
Fani-Kayode is the director of media and publicity of the Jonathan Campaign Organization. Indicted by EFCC since 2008, he’s been in court on and off, off and on, in a N100 million money laundering case preferred against him. Fayose who became governor of Ekiti State for the second time via Ekitigate election rigging scam is also indicted by EFCC for $1.2 billion poultry scam. Okupe, senior special assistant to Jonathan on public affairs and the erstwhile chairman of Romix Solifix International (Nigeria) Limited, is on EFCC caseload for N800 million road construction contract that he failed to execute. He got the money and just disappeared to Aso Rock under the protective umbrella of Jonathan. All other felons indicted by EFCC should face the same punishment.

A crime buried with justice is never laid to rest. Destroyers of our economy and lives of our people should be given swift and severe punishment. Death penalty for corruption should be our favorite method of fighting corruption and will serve as a sweet revenge for poor Nigerians – victims of corruption.

Nollywood Producers, Actors Protest Against Piracy

Movie producers and actors in the entertainment industry on Monday April 20 assembled at the office of the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola protesting against the incessant cases of piracy in the movie industry Daily Independent reports.
Nollywood Producers, Actors Protest Against Piracy
Top on their demands was the call for stiffer penalties against piracy and other forms of intellectual theft.
The practitioners, numbering about 100, made the call while drawing attention to the perennial threats piracy poses to their profession.
According to them, piracy is a major albatross to the growth of the movie industry as it discouraged investments in film making and undermine creativity.
Speaking during the protest, movie Producer, Tunde Kelani, said the trend had gotten to a dangerous dimension requiring a quick check.
Nollywood Producers, Actors Protest Against Piracy
“This is destroying lives, property, business and the industry as a whole,” Kelani said.
Kelani also sued for the elevation of piracy to the same level as armed robbery, financial crimes and narcotics.
Another movie producer, Kunle Afolayan claimed his latest film- “October 1” had just been pirated before official commissioning, he lamented about the situation and called for serious legislation.
Afolayan advocated severe punishments for offenders, saying the existing legislation against the problem was too weak to serve as deterrence.
Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola in response to the aggrieved movie makers, assured them of the state government’s collaboration in the fight against piracy.
He described the industry as a self-driven one that thrived even without any take-off grant from government.
Fashola saluted the courage of the film industry stakeholders to tackle the menace head-on.
According to Fashola, “Piracy is a global phenomenon, not just a Nigerian problem but what has been done in other climes is that they have been able to reduce it to the barest minimum.”

Senator George Akume has gotten the backing of other senators in his race to becoming the Senate president when the eight National Assembly is inaugurated.
Senate Presidency: Why Akume Is The Best Candidate - Gemade
Senator George Akume
The Nation reports that Senator Akume’s quest to become Senate President got a boost after Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning, Senator Barnabas Gemade, on April 21, Tuesday, threw his weight behind him.
According to Senator Gemade, Akume is the highest ranking Senator from the North Central geo-political zone which makes him the most qualified candidate for the position of Senate President.
Senator Gemade also dismissed unfounded rumour making the rounds in parts of Benue State that he is against Akume’s candidature for the position.
He said, “My attention has been drawn to the mischievous and unfounded rumour on cyberspace and some newspapers circulating within Benue State that I am not in support of Senator George Akume’s candidature for the office of Senate President.
“This is no doubt the handwork of our political opponents who suffered defeat at the just concluded elections and can’t seem to get over it, that are now bent on sowing seed sof discord in our party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I hereby reiterate that if our party, the APC zones the office of the Senate Presidency of the 8th National Assembly to the North Central zone, Senator George Akume who is the highest ranking Senator in the zone should be its choice.
“Let it be known therefore that as a loyal member of our party I am in complete agreement with the decision of the party and will abide by it.”
With the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning majority of the seats in the just concluded National Assembly elections, the party reserves the right to chose the Senate president.
Although current Senate president, David Mark would have emerged the best choice given his rich background and experience, his membership of the PDP, which will now be in the minority in the next Senate, knocks him out of the reckoning for the post.

Stephen Keshi has been appointed Nigeria coach for the third time after signing a two-year contract on Tuesday.
The “big boss” as he is popularly called has enjoyed a good run as head coach of Super Eagles as in his first spell as coach, he won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
His deal was however not renewed after a not too good outing at 2014 world cup in Brazil and failing to clinch a ticket to the AFCON 2015.

It was gathered that Keshi has set several targets and that his contract will be terminated if he does not meet them.
The 53-year-old was also required to sign a code of conduct and is expected to work with the Nigerian Football Federation technical committee.
Keshi, who also won the Nations Cup as a player with Nigeria in 1994, however declined to comment on the contract details or the exit of his long-term assistant Daniel Amokachi.
Reports indicate that former Nigeria striker Amokachi has left his role with immediate effect and has been replaced by Salisu Yusuf.
Yusuf, who led Kano Pillars to the Nigerian title in 2008, has previously worked as assistant to former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia at both senior and U-20 levels.
As caretaker coach, Keshi endured a tempestuous 2014, in which he was sacked by the NFF and only reinstalled after intervention from Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan.
His last two home matches in Abuja and Akwa Ibom were marred by a negative reaction from the public but the “big boss” has pleaded for the home supporters to be positive during the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers.
