Topic: 17 Years Old Nigeria, Harold Ekeh Accepted Into All Ivy League Schools In USA (Read 5146 times)

Success stories like that of 17-year-old Harold Ekeh makes us proud of Nigerians living in the diaspora, because it provides a powerful reminder that the dream of attaining educational and career excellence sought by many who immigrate to the United States is definitely achievable.

The Elmont high school senior, Harold Ekeh, recently got accepted to all eight Ivy League universities and the 17-year-old from Long Island, New York, would be having a tough choice to make in selecting which school to end up with. He actually got admission into all 13 schools he applied to, including MIT and Johns Hopkins.

“I am very humbled by this. I see this as not an accomplishment for me, but as an accomplishment for my school, my community,” Ekeh told the local CBS affiliate. “I really see this as my mission to inspire the next generation.”

Ekeh’s aspiration is to be a neurosurgeon, according to local news reports, and he is reportedly leaning toward Yale University.

“I am leaning toward Yale,” he told CNNMoney. “I competed at Yale for Model UN, and I like the passion people at Yale had.”

His parents moved from Nigeria to the United States with his family eight years ago and his mom works for a human resources agency, while his dad works for the New York City Police Department.

According to media reports, Ekeh credits his success in gaining admittance to all eight Ivy League schools and several other universities to his parents for moving from Nigeria to the United States when he was 8 years old, and his teachers for challenging him.

Topic: I Am The Most Luckiest Nigerian, I've Not Seen Anyone Luckier Than Me - GEJ (Read 8183 times)

President Jonathan today while receiving residents of the Federal Capital Territory who were led by Vice President Namadi Sambo to pay him Easter homage at the Presidential Villa looked back at his years of service from being the deputy governor of Bayelsa, to when he became the country’s President and said he thinks he has had enough and he has no doubt that he is the luckiest Nigerian. He also thanked Nigerians for the opportunity they gave him to serve. His words;

“For me as an individual, this Easter coincides with the time I am leaving but I always say that I am one of the luckiest Nigerians. I am yet to see somebody luckier than me.

“From 1999, I was in the hands of government for 16 years. Not just in government as a parliamentarian because if you are a Senator or House of Representatives member, you take care of yourself, you live in your own house. Continue...

“I was in a cage, being taken care of by the government. From May 29, 1999 to date; 16 good years. I think it is enough and I am happy, help me to thank God for that.

“I will continue to thank Nigerians for giving me that privilege. I became a deputy governor because Bayelsans voted for me and my governor then. I became a Vice President because Nigerians voted for Yar’Adua and myself.

“I continued in 2011 because Nigerians voted for me and Architect Namadi Sambo. I have to thank all Nigerians. Wherever I will be, I will remain grateful to this great country. Today is a glorious day for me,” he said.

Topic: Nollywood Stars That Campaigned For Jonathan Share Their Views On The Loss (Read 8553 times)

Punch met up with some pro Jonathan Nollywood stars and asked for their thoughs after Jonathan lost. Below are some response:

Omoni Oboli

“I can never regret anything I do. I stood for what I believe in, not because of financial gain. At the end of the day, the victory goes to Nigeria. This election showed true democracy and I am proud of the man that I supported. He is a hero. He conceded graciously and that is the trait of a true leader. This is democracy and nobody should work against me because I supported Jonathan.”

Lancelot Imasuen,

Quote
“It is just that I want to use the opportunity to celebrate President Goodluck Jonathan for his uprightness. If a man that has been tagged as weak and clueless demonstrated something we thought was almost impossible in Nigeria, I eternally want to celebrate him. I will never regret campaigning for Jonathan and if this election is done again, I will still campaign for him. Why would I regret supporting him? I was not coerced or bribed into it. I was not given money, I was convinced and I still stand by my conviction. If that would make me face the international court, I am ready to face it. While supporting Jonathan, I did not kill anybody; I was only using the word of mouth to convince people.”

Segun Arinze,

Quote
“I stood for what I believed in and if I had the opportunity, I would do it all over again. I do not ever regret campaigning for Jonathan. If I believed in Buhari, I would have done the same thing. I wish him all the best and hope he would take the country to a better place. It is no longer about Buhari or Goodluck but about Nigeria.
“I am not a card carrying member of PDP; I supported the President because I believed he has done well for my industry and Nigeria as a whole. I am a Nigerian and I have every right to the freedom of expression. Being silent would be foolhardy on my part. In 2011, I was campaigning for Fashola, why was I not silent at that time? We are all Nigerians and I don’t think Buhari would victimise me because I supported Jonathan.”

Fidelis Duker,
Quote
“I can never regret supporting President Goodluck Jonathan. When he is having a welcome party at Otuoke, I will be there with him. He has done very well and I am still very proud of him. It has never happened in the history of Nigeria where an incumbent will lose and he will walk away.”
