A woman has been arrested after trying to smuggle her baby through airport immigration in a back pack .The mother who was travelling to new Guinea was caught when the backpack containing the baby was put through the airport scanner.

According to ABS-cbnnews ,airport personnel said the two-month-old baby was sleeping soundly when discovered at the NAIA Terminal 1.

Vicente L. Guerzon Jr., assistant general manager for security and emergency services of the Manila International Airport Authority, identified the owner of the backpack as Jenifer Pavolaurea, a 25-year-old Papua New Guinean and a nursing graduate.


The 25-year-old single mother admitted that she attempted to smuggle her 2-month-old son out of the country because she does not have the necessary immigration clearance for his departure.

Pavolaurea was eventually allowed to depart for Papua New Guinea.Airport authorities did not file any charges against Pavolaurea

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Attahiru Jega says the electoral body is ready to conduct the general elections which starts next week Saturday March 28th. At a meeting with some Civil Society bodies in Abuja today, Prof Jega said the time provided by the postponement has helped the commission articulate its plan for the conduct of a successful election

"We believe very strongly that the period of the extension has been put to good use and it has added value and obviously we would be able to do a much better election and it also enforced our belief that the elections for 2015 will be remarkably better than the 2011 elections and in fact we believe it will be the best election in Nigeria's history"

He however raised concerns over the security of INEC staffs and NYSC members who would be working during the election days
