President Goodluck Jonathan has fired the Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Martin-Luther Agwai.

The President’s decision was made known today, March 10, by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Reuben Abati.

Abati also announced, via a statement, that Jonathan had appointed Ishaya Dare Akau as the new head of SURE-P.

The statement reads:

“In furtherance of his efforts to continuously re-energize and reposition agencies of the Federal Government for optimal service delivery, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has appointed Mr. Ishaya Dare Akau as the new Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P). Mr. Akau, whose appointment takes immediate effect, replaces Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd.) who served as Chairman of the SURE-P until today.”

“The new SURE-P Chairman hails from Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State and holds Bachelors’ Degrees in the Arts and Law. Mr. Akau comes to the job with years of experience as a high-level administrator in the nation’s public service.”

“His record of service includes tenures as Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Education Board and Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.”

“President Jonathan thanks the outgoing Chairman of SURE-P, Gen Agwai for his service to the nation and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

The Presidency did not offer an explanation for Agwai’s removal but according to Premium Times, the former SURE-P Chairman was relieved of his duties for disobeying a presidential directive that no government official or member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should attend the birthday event of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo  which held on Thursday, March 5.

Agwai also spoke during the event on the need for the military to steer clear of partisan politics.

Topic: Debate: Corruption vs Internet Fraud, Which is the Lesser Crime? (Read 1089 times)

Few days ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), posted on its website the arrest and prosecution of a 21-year-old student for defrauding an American woman of the sum of N20 million via the Internet in what is popularly called 'Yahoo-Yahoo'. But that move is not popular with many Nigerians who think that the anti-graft agency has been expending its energy pursuing the wrong crime while allowing top politicians and government functionaries get away with momentous corruption and looting of Nigeria's money. But another school of thought believe that the body is right in pursuing these Internet fraudsters as they have been denting the image of the country over the years, making those with genuine business deals seen as fraudulent.
We ask: which do you this is a lesser crime between corruption and Internet fraud?

Topic: 2 Young Boys Aged 13 & 15 Arrested For Stealing Valuables Worth N500,000 [Photo] (Read 1232 times)

Two young boys Ehis Akhimien and Elijah Benjamin, aged 13 and 15 years respectively, have told the police that they were groomed by some grown up armed robbers and forced to burgle houses at the Navy Town Barracks in Lagos.

The kids were arrested by Naval personnel when they sneaked into the barracks to steal from the homes of the officers, carting away valuables estimated at over N500,000.

The suspects told journalists at the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS WEY, shortly before they were handed over to policemen by the Commander, NNS WEY, Commodore Ignatius Iliya, that they usually scaled the fence of the barracks through a bill board close to the wall.

They also stated that they were errand boys to their masters who usually wait on the other side of the fence to receive the stolen goods and give them a paltry N1,000 after each successful operation.

But luck ran out of the kids when they were arrested by a patrol team of naval personnel attached to NNS WEY last week.

13-year-old Ehis Akhiemien, a primary 6 pupil of Assurance Primary School, Kirikiri, said he started stealing four months ago.

"Elijah said we should go to people’s houses to steal. We would jump the fence into the barracks at about 6pm and would hide until it is dark.

Elijah would tear the nets of our victims with blade, from where he stole the items. At times some of the kitchen doors were left opened, thereby facilitating his entry.

On my part, I would be on the look out for any intruder. At the end, we would take the stolen items to our boss who would be waiting for us at the other side of the fence."

Elijah Benjamin stated that they were forced into robbery by their masters whom he called Afeez Lamidi and Abdusalam Garuba.

"We were taken to waterside in Kirikiri by brother Afeez and Abdusalam where we were briefed on how to go and steal.

They threatened that if we did not go and steal they would beat us and even kill us. They also threatened to kill us if we told anyone.

In one of the operations, we came with N50,000. We also got N12,000 and N7,000 in separate operations. At the end of each operation, they would give us N1,000 and pat us on the back for being good boys."

Topic: OMG!!! School Children Die In Terrible Accident On Their Way Back From Excursion (Read 2183 times)

Some school children going on an excursion to the mount Afadjato in Ghana lost their lives in an extremely horrible accident today March 10th. According to an eye-witness, the vehicle the children were in was almost finishing the mountainous portion when the driver lost control and fell into the ditch killing pupils between the ages of 7-15 years.

They were from Kasoa going towards Afadjato on an excursion. They sent me a number of photos from the accident but it's so graphic I can use three. In other photos I can't share, some of the children are missing their heads. Too sad and too horrible. Our hearts go out to all the parents who lost their kids. See the pics after the cut but please be warned it's quite graphic

Topic: Man Beat Pedophile To Death For Attempting To Rape His Daughter (Read 2583 times)

A man was extremely angry when he learned that a suspected pedophile was grooming his daughter in an attempt to have s*x with her. He didn’t take it likely with the man and did the unexpected. The 11-year-old girl allegedly spoke with the pedophile through the WhatsApp messenger service over a period of three months. When her father of Goias, Brazil, learned of their relationship, he began chatting with the 23-year-old man while pretending to be his daughter.
The father then arranged to meet the suspect, while still pretending to be his daughter.  The father then brutally beat the man to death and recorded the beating. He uploaded the video to the Internet, showing the wounded man being held by the neck while he was begging for his life. The 23-year-old man promised to cut off all contact with the girl. He said: “Never again, never again, never again,”
However, the father showed no mercy and continued beating the man. The lens of the camera was then taken away from the victim’s face while he was heard screaming.  The video clip ended abruptly. The man’s body was found dead in the bushes three days later.

Topic: Checkout Pastor Oyedepo's Prophesy About The General Election (Read 15407 times)

The GO and Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has spoken on the 2015 General Elections. Speaking during the fourth service at Faith Tabernacle, he declares that the elections will be peaceful, urging Nigerians that have relocated their families out of fear to not worry.
In a prophetic statement, he said,
“Watch it, concerning this nation, there’s a great future. This election shall be peaceful; it will come to pass like a dream of the night. Offices will not be shut down for a moment; it shall be peaceful, there will be order as ordained by God and we will celebrate at the end of the day,” he assured. The pastor also had a word for politicians who rely so much on ‘godfatherism’: “There is no kingmaker on the earth; God is then only authentic kingmaker. So He will ensure that His Will is established in Nigeria at all levels. He will ensure there’s no war by installing only those who are righteous in power,” in the light of the current economic crunch happening all over the world, some nations will, out of frustration, practically beg other nations to absolve them, ‘divine judgment”.
Now there is famine in diverse places…we will soon hear that nations are acquiring other nations; some will even sell themselves to other nations, begging them to allow them become states in their nations,”
he noted.

Shock enveloped the people of Rijiyar Lemo in Fagge local government area of Kano State when a young couple in the area strangulated their newborn baby girl.

Weekly Trust gathered that the couple got married two months ago and the wife, Faiza Haruna, gave birth to a baby girl last weekend. The baby was killed by Faiza, three days after she put to bed and her husband, Aminu Mustapha buried her in their neighbourhood.

It was learnt that the 17-year-old housewife killed the baby with the consent of her husband.
Neighbours said Faiza delivered the baby at home without the help of any medical personnel.
“During the pregnancy, she didn’t attend any antenatal clinic. It was we that assisted her during child labour. She delivered the baby safely and we assisted her with all the necessary cleaning up,” a neighbor who asked not to be named, said.
“Hours after given birth, Faiza started telling people that the baby was sick. We advised her to take the baby to hospital but three days later, she and her husband returned home without the baby. We drew the attention of Hisbah officials and they were arrested because we suspected foul play.”
It was at the Hisbah office that Faiza confessed that she killed the baby. Hisbah commandant in Fagge local government, Ustaz Salisu Umar, said the couple killed the baby to cover up their premarital affairs.

In a chat at the Kano State police headquarters, Faiza opened up to Weekly Trust on why she killed the baby.
“I gave birth to the baby and killed her myself. I did so to avoid embarrassment from members of our community. I was impregnated by my husband before we got married,” she explained.
When asked what she used in killing the baby, she said:
“I didn’t use anything; it was my bare hands that I used in killing her. I went into my room when my husband was not around and strangulated her.”
She revealed that her husband did not take part in killing the baby, but assisted by burying the corpse. Her husband, Aminu Mustapha, 29, admitted to burying the baby.

Spokesman of the Kano police command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, said the couple would be arraigned for prosecution accordingly.
“The husband is not denying the fact that he impregnated her outside wedlock. She killed the baby because she delivered it two months after marriage. This is a case of culpable homicide and abetment of offender. They are in our custody and we will charge them to court immediately after investigation,” he said.
