It happened this afternoon along Ikot Ansa Road in Calabar, this dude went to buy boxers and gave the seller N500, immediately the woman inserted the money in her wallet, all the money she had sold for the day disappeared. Shocked, she shouted ''Inor'! Inor'! (Thief! Thief). Unfortunate for the dude, soldiers were passing at the time.
They chased and caught him, then they removed his clothes and made him swim in that gutter pool. With enough koboko and swimming, the money appeared back.

Pope Francis warned that he was ready to “punch” anyone who insulted his mother. The pontiff said this on Thursday in remarks made en route to the Philippines from Sri Lanka, that“ there are limits to freedom of expression and my mother was the limit.

“We have a duty to speak openly, to have this freedom, but without offending others. “It’s true that you cannot react with violence, but if my aide Doctor Gasbarri, who is a friend, badmouths my mother, a punch would be coming for him,” he added.

The Pope said in relation to recent events in Paris that violence in the name of religion can never be justified, but that there are “limits” to freedom of expression. “Many people badmouth religion, mock it, play with other people’s religion. “It can happen, but there are limits, every religion has dignity, every religion that respects life and human beings has a dignity, and you cannot mock it,” he added.

Pope warned that “You cannot provoke, insult, ridicule other people’s faith,”.

Topic: REVEALED: How Jonathan, Obasanjo Peace Meeting Crashed Before Adeboye

There were indications last night that the elaborate meeting on Monday geared towards ending the frosty relationship between President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo ended in fiasco.

GISTMANIA learnt from competent sources at the meeting that President Jonathan and other top leaders of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who requested for the meeting with Obasanjo, felt disappointed with its outcome and may not push the idea of mending fences with the former leader again.

One of the sources, who was present at the meeting, told Vanguard that Obasanjo merely accepted to allow Jonathan and other PDP chieftains to visit him as a mark of respect to the office of the President and not to make peace with him.

According to the source, Obasanjo deliberately requested two prominent clergymen to be present as witnesses at the meeting to prove the point that it is Jonathan who actually caused disaffection between them by reneging on previous decisions they jointly reached.

It was learned that but for the respect Obasanjo has for the office which he once held, he would not have accepted to host Jonathan because of his recent provocative utterances against prominent Nigerian statesmen, including him (Obasanjo).

Why the meeting flopped
The source said Obasanjo was irked by last Sunday’s statement in which Jonathan referred to some elder statesmen behaving as ‘motor park touts’, a classification, Obasanjo reportedly took in bad faith.

The source said that at the meeting, Obasanjo opened up to those present and the two clergy men he had invited to ask Jonathan whether he had been honest with him and those he had assured he would run for a single term, if they supported him to win the last election.

The source said: “It is true that Obasanjo invited the two clergymen to witness the meeting which he grudgingly accepted to host because of the respect he has for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He did not want to turn the president and his entourage down since they requested to see him in his house as part of their rally in the state.

“But the truth of the matter is that Baba has not shifted grounds on any issue since he feels that Jonathan has not been fair to him by not adhering to any of the previous agreements reached with him.

Motor park touts classification
“What really irked Baba is the reference by Jonathan to some Nigerian elder statesmen as behaving as ‘motor park touts’ a day before begging him to grant him audience in Abeokuta.

The man really feels insulted by such unfortunate outburst from the president of a country.
“There was no need to enter into any peace deal with Jonathan because similar deals done in the past only resulted in more attacks by him and his aides on Baba only for them to come begging for forgiveness once it is close to election.”

Obasanjo and Jonathan with members of the party’s Board of Trustees, BOT, met for about three hours in Abeokuta on Monday with a view to settling the differences between the two leaders and to seek his support for the president’s re-election, next month.

Obasanjo, who appears upset by the way Jonathan has so far run the country, has often taken to public fora to criticise him, including an open letter entitled “Before it is too late” and a critical book entitled “My Watch” which a court had barred from being circulated.

Topic: President Goodluck Jonathan Lists His Achievements for 2014 (Read 9674 times)

2015 has begun in earnest and Nigeria’s number one citizen, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in his capacity as President has delivered a message of hope, good governance and zero-tolerance for any form of violence.
In his 2015 broadcast to the nation, President Jonathan re-asserted his administration’s determination to bring about economic diversification, non-tolerance to all forms of electoral violence and free and fair elections. He also touched on his determination to end insurgency in the country as well as several other issues bothering on nation-building and matters of national importance.
Below is a full text of his speech as made available by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati:

Dear Great People of our nation,
I greet and felicitate with you all as we enter the New Year today. As we mark the beginning of this New Year, 2015, a new nation is being born.  A new nation is being born because of the foundations we have all laid, working together for the good and progress of our dear fatherland.

I join you all in thanking God Almighty who has brought us this far, for continually bestowing His Grace upon us and for guiding our great nation safely through all the challenges of the past year.

This year, as in the year past, I reaffirm my commitment to work to ensure a secure future for our dear country and the generations yet unborn.

Last year, we celebrated our hundredth year of nationhood. The year brought us further progress, challenges and fresh opportunities.

We have contended with the normal challenges of nation-building and the unusual challenges of terrorism.

But we have continued to vigorously confront those who seek to destroy the bonds of unity that hold us together.

On this first day of the New Year, I want to pay special tribute to the gallant officers, men and women of our Armed Forces and other security agencies who have been in the forefront of the war against terrorism and violent extremism in our country and sub-region.

I also commend all Nigerians who have remained vigilant and cooperative with our security agencies in the fight against the common enemy.

We are re-equipping and re-positioning our armed forces to enhance their capacity to win the ongoing war against terror and insurgency.
Regrettably, terrorists have unleashed much pain and agony on our land. They have made widows of our mothers and sisters and orphans of our children. They have shut down businesses, desecrated places of worship and brought untold hardship to both men and women. They have violated the culture and peaceful way of life in our country, which took generations to build.
They have destroyed countless schools and displaced people from their communities, driving them into exile.
I want to assure you that the terrorists will not get away with their atrocities: they will not win; they will be routed. As President, I feel the pain of all affected communities and families. I hear their cries and share their sorrow and pain.
We will not forget; we will not look the other way. We have done a lot of painstaking planning and work to resolve the current security challenge. We will bring justice to the savage terrorists known as Boko Haram. They will be defeated.
That is the solemn commitment I make today as President of the Federal Republic, and Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces.
By the Special Grace of God, the Federal Government, under my leadership, has continued, in the past four years to lead our country forward, even under the most trying circumstances.
The progress we have made in priority areas bears us testimony.
Amongst other achievements, we have rehabilitated and expanded our rail transportation network, successfully privatized power generation and distribution, significantly reformed and increased local participation in our oil and gas industry, and improved nationwide access to potable water from 57% in 2010, to 70% at present.
We have also made significant progress in improving access to primary, secondary and tertiary education by building and equipping more schools, including special Almajiri schools, and establishing additional universities to ensure that each state of the nation now has at least one Federal University.
Our national economy maintained a steady growth rate of close to seven per cent in the past four years and millions of fresh employment opportunities were created for our people as a direct consequence.
Recently, we launched the Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme (YEAP) and the $100 million dollars Government and Donor Fund for Agriculture Finance in Nigeria (FAFIN) to fast-track the positive transformation of our agricultural sector.
The Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme (YEAP) targets 750, 000 market-oriented young agricultural producers while the $100 million dollars Fund is to provide affordable long-term financing to support the development of small and medium agribusinesses in the country.
This is in addition to a N50 billion Farm Mechanization Support Fund set up by the Central Bank to establish 1,200 agricultural equipment-hiring enterprises.
Both funds will become fully operational this year.  Policies and programmes such as these to boost agricultural production remain topmost on the agenda of this administration.
Being very conscious of the inherent perils of our over-reliance on income from crude oil exports for national development, we have focused on accelerating the diversification of our economy.
The non-oil Sector which has grown by an average of 8% in the last few years, is now a major driver of growth in our economy.
The 2015 national budget, which is now before the National Assembly, is targeted at deepening our efforts at becoming a non-oil economy.
The budget also includes measures to ensure that the downturn in the price of oil does not affect our development plans and our national economy too adversely. We are adjusting our financial processes to safeguard our economy.  We are also taking steps to ensure that the poor and the low and medium income earners do not bear the brunt.
In 2015, this administration will continue to lay the foundation for a vibrant economy that attracts significant Foreign Direct Investment and promotes policies that ensure economic stability.
We will ensure stability in the value of the Naira by striving to take away speculative behaviours that cause market exchange pressures.
We will continue to build and maintain a healthy external reserves position and strengthen fiscal buffers.  We will ensure the Naira remains strong, and gives foreign investors the clarity and certainty that they need, to guide future investment decisions.
We will continue to improve our payment systems and strengthen risk-based supervision mechanism for Nigerian banks to ensure overall health and stability of the banking system.
We are introducing a broad spectrum of financial instruments to boost sector-specific enterprise areas in agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), manufacturing, and oil and gas to enhance our aggregate supply capacity, reduce poverty, promote job creation and increase the general well-being of our people.
These efforts and other measures being spearheaded by relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, are geared to ensure a secure future for Nigeria and create a much more prosperous country, where people live more peaceful and fulfilled lives.
As we enter an election year, I assure you that our administration will remain fully focused on providing good governance and the delivery of better public services to our people.
The coming campaigns and elections will not distract us from our ongoing work to significantly improve the living conditions of our people.  And I urge all tiers of government not to be distracted as well.
The elections are very important for us as a country.  Their successful conclusion will further strengthen our democratic institutions and place our beloved country even more firmly in the comity of truly democratic nations.
The elections are very important for us as a country.  Their successful conclusion will further strengthen our democratic institutions and place our beloved country even more firmly in the comity of truly democratic nations.
I reassure all Nigerians and the international community of our firm commitment to free, fair and credible elections. My commitment to free elections and one man, one vote remains unwavering.
Our administration has worked hard in previous elections to prepare all key stakeholders including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and the electorate optimally, to ensure a progressively improved electoral process in the country under my watch.  We will continue to do so for the coming elections.
We will continue to provide adequate funding to INEC and maintain the Commission’s independence and isolate it from any form of interference or meddling in its day-to-day affairs.  This shall continue to guarantee its impartiality and ability to conduct more credible and acceptable elections.
National security agencies will also be given all necessary support to enhance their ability to ensure that the elections are peaceful and violence-free. The Nigeria Police has already established an Elections Security Planning and Monitoring Unit.
I am optimistic that with the cooperation of all law-abiding citizens of the country, our commitment to have a peaceful and violence-free election will be actualized.
I will like to say this, once again, to my fellow politicians and political leaders. None of our political ambitions is worth the blood of any of our countrymen, women and children.  The improvement of their lives and living conditions ought to be our primary motive and the driving force of our quest for political power and leadership positions.
Let us not promote sectionalism, disunity, intolerance, hate, falsehood or the malicious abuse of political opponents. Whatever we feel or seek, we must have a nation and a people before we can dream of political ambitions. Let us put the nation and the people first.
Let us all conduct our electoral campaigns with the highest possible decorum and civility towards political opponents. Let us give INEC the fullest possible support and cooperation it requires to conduct credible and violence-free elections in 2015.
After the 2011 general elections, some unpatriotic elements embarked on an orgy of violence, resulting in the destruction of lives and property. That will not be allowed to happen this time around. This government will act decisively against anyone who disrupts the public peace, before, during or after the 2015 general elections.
All Nigerians, of voting age, are free to vote based on their convictions. It is our duty to defend and protect that basic right, and let no one be in doubt, we will.
Fellow Nigerians, I urge all of you to enter the New Year with renewed zeal and patriotism, to serve our fatherland with love, honesty, faithfulness and hope for a greater tomorrow.
As I have always maintained, none of the challenges before us is insurmountable.  We must come together as a people and work with single-minded unity of purpose to overcome them.
Nigeria is a key country in Africa. We must work together to maintain our strategic position and collaborate with others to move the continent forward. I call for peace in Africa and an end to all conflicts in our continent.  I urge all Africans to promote democracy in their respective countries to ensure faster development of the continent and faster economic and political integration.
We will continue to pray and offer hands of fellowship and assistance to our fellow Africans suffering from the Ebola Virus Disease.  I urge all Nigerians to show compassion and contribute in whatever way we can to help our African brothers and sisters.
As we go into this New Year, I salute the indomitable and resilient spirit of our people in Nigeria and wherever they are in the world.  Our spirit of enterprise and the doggedness to succeed amongst all odds has been our strength.
With our collective prayers and efforts, we will grow our economy and our people will become wealthier. Government will continue with programmes deliberately designed to create more jobs for our youth, to enable them contribute more to the growth and development of our nation.
Let us continue our march to the future, towards the attainment of our collective vision of a strong, united, prosperous and harmonious nation – a secure nation for us and for our coming generations
.   I wish you all a happy and fulfilling 2015.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Happy New Year, Nigeria
I thank you all

Popular comedian Bovi, recounted his “last night with a prostitute” experience. The story is quite long but it is a very interesting read

I had just resumed school for second semester 300 level. This was February 2000. My mission was to storm port-harcourt from abraka and surprise my older sister who had just moved to another apartment. All I had was the address to the new apartment. I’ve always loved to pull surprises and this was my biggest one at the time. I arrived ph in the evening via public transport and traced her new place. Me wey plan to surprise my sister con surprise myself. She had not moved in. Her present address, I didn’t have. Gsm; non-existent at the time, her office? Closed. I was practically stranded in the garden city. After recovering from my rude shock, I took the first 2 foolish decisions. I hailed a cab and told the can to take me to a happening joint. The type that runs all night. He told me it was a Tuesday, the happening joints really don’t happen on Tuesday.

I insisted there had to be one. Well he jad money to make, so he obliged me. We got there. Dead end. Even the band members and the Dj were off duty. We tried a second spot. No luck. By this time it was past 9pm. So it dawned on me that I should have been looking for a hotel. By the time I checked 2 hotels, I realized that had I not made wayward stops, I’d have been able to pay for a room. Think Bovi, think! I asked again where I could possibly chill till daybreak. A commercial nerve. Someone mentioned “opposite hotel presidential.” When I got to hotel presidential; opposite it that is; I was relieved. The groove was real. Outdoor joints, several bar tenders. Pot bellied men with pretty women drinking away their stress. I found my spot, got a seat, weighed my purse and saw that my vex money had been severely eroded. I couldn’t even afford a drink. But hey, I could watch. The ladies of the night were present on their droves( soliciting customers). It was a sight to behold. Of they got lucky, they hopped into vehicles of strange men. I enjoyed all I saw until it was midnight and the unexpected happened. All d joints started to lock up. On no time it was just me and the night nurses left on the road side.
“Why you no go stay hotel” “why you no go your sister house” “why she Neva pack go her new house?” I had answered all these questions repeatedly. By now I was with the security of the hotel, begging to share their space with them till the earliest signs of daylight. They weren’t comfortable with me there. They had even suggested I go to ojuelegba, a spot on the famous Aba road that hosted a retinue of low class sex workers (low in the sense that the better sex workers were the ones who came opposite the hotel) I had turned down the idea politely. Five minutes later, a police patrol can sailed by slowly with “victims” of their raid of ojuelegba. I didn’t believe my luck, assuming it was luck.
Not long after, one of the busiest girls of the night walked into the security post. I had seen her severally that night. She had to be the busiest of the girls. Leave in a car, return in okada. That happened at least 4 times.she inquired what the problem was. For the 66th time, I narrated. She paused for a while. I had no idea what she was thinking. Then quietly she asked to see the contents of my bag. Two shirts, one trouser, soap can with blue long sponge and body cream. And identity card. Finish! She thought for a while again and then made me an offer. She asked me to follow her to her apartment. I wasn’t sure what to do. Security didn’t want me there. From their eyes I could tell this was my last offer. She “napkined” on the bike ride to her house.
This was 2am. A small living room and a room with one bed ms living room was as small as the room. It had no furniture. She offered me her bed and slept on the floor. I tries to refuse but she will have none of it. I was her guest. I don’t know if I really slept cos my legs remained on the floor with. Y back on d bed. By5 am I was up. She offered me water to shower but all I did was brush and wash my face. Her brother came in not long after without caring a second who I was, he went straight to sleep. As I made to leave, she untied an end of her wrapper, brought out a wad of notes and offered me 3 fifty naira notes. She bade me farewell. Never to be seen again till this day.

Topic: Court Freezes All Aliko Dangote Accounts In 20 Nigerian Banks (Read 17470 times)

A Federal High Court has freezed the bank accounts belonging to Sani Dangote the Vice President of Dangote group and owner of Dansa Foods, in 20 banks over bad debt.Union Bank brought the case against Dangote, whose brother Aliko is regarded as Afrca’s richest man according to Forbes world billionaire list.

Union bank brought the against Dangote, alleging that the businessman is owing it about N5 billion. However, other banks showed interest in the case because Mr. Dangote is also owing them. Justice Okon Abang said all accounts belonging to Dangote should be incapacitated pending the hearing of the suit on September 11, 2014.

The banks are Access, CITI, Diamond, Ecobank, Enterprise, Fidelity, First Bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Heritage, Keystone, Mainstreet, Skye Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Unity, Wema and Zenith.

Justice Abang, however, ordered Union Bank to file undertaken to indemnify the defendants in the event that the freezing order ought not to have been made.

“In line with Order 28 rule 2 of the rules of this court, an interim order is hereby made restraining the banks from allowing the defendants to operative their accounts with them especially honouring withdrawal of funds.

“I think the dictate of justice demands that a preserving order should be made to preserve the res (subject matter) of this suit,” Justice Abang held.

Union Bank had sued Dangote and his companies over alleged failure to liquidate about N5 billion debt despite repeated demands.

Quote
The bank, in two separate suits against Dangote and his companies, had sought an order of mareva injunction restraining all commercial banks in Nigeria from allowing withdrawal of funds from their accounts pending the determination of the suits.

When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday, the motion could not be heard as the defendants had filed objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.

Two out of all the banks, Diamond and Zenith banks appeared before the court on and explained that Dangote was equally indebted to them.

Zenith Bank specifically said Dangote was indebted to the bank to the tune of €7 million Euros

However while stating that he would entertain all the applications filed in the matter on September 11, Justice Abang said there was an urgent need to preserve the res in view of the allegation that the  defendants were about to move the funds abroad.

Union Bank, in the suits, alleged that in a bid to evade payment of the loan, Dangote has been making frantic efforts to deplete the funds in the accounts of his companies, and that investigation had revealed that the defendants had started diverting the funds to Dubai in United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada and Switzerland.

According to two separate affidavits in support of the suits deposed to by one Olufunmilola Ayoola, an official of the bank, it was alleged that the failure of the defendants to liquidate the monumental debt had negatively affected the Nigerian economy, a development which the bank claimed necessitated the suits.

Ayoola further averred that Union Bank was having difficulty in extending credit facilities to small scale businesses which in turn would have helped in boosting the nation’s economy and salvage the country from its present malaise of corruption and under development crisis.

The bank stated that the funds which Sani and his companies failed to pay, were capable of going a long way in impacting positively on the nation’s economy.

According to the processes, the bank in September 2008, granted the defendants N5.2 billion.

The breakdown of the loan was given as follows; N500 million overdraft, N500 million advert loan, $2.5 million equipment lease, $2.5 million sales and lease back and $30 million import finance.

Ayoola recalled that when the defendants could not fulfil the promise of paying back the credit facilities from time to time, the bank approved the restricting of the loan, despite that development, Dansa Foods was indebted to the bank to the tune of N4.003 billion as at November 29, 2012.

The loan was later reduced to N3.477 billion, but despite repeated demands, the defendants failed to liquidate the debt.

Bulk Pack, on the other hand, as at date, is indebted to the bank to the tune of N745.145 million

For not being able to curb his utterances, a police officer attached to the Iponri Police State, Corporal Ahonsi Matthew, is in hot waters after a prostitute he threatened to deal with, Joy Okoye, was found dead a day later with her vital organs cut off, raising suspicions that he may have been responsible for her death.
Presently, he is in detention at the Lagos State Police Command and is undergoing questions over the death of the lady.
Information from a police source has it that Corporal Matthew had threatened Okoye after she got into with another prostitute who is Matthew's girlfriend, in their brothel at the Adeniji area of Lagos, and being the girlfriend of an officer of the law, the lady had put a call to Matthew who is said to be married with children.
Promptly, he left his duty post and went down to the brothel to see the 'ashawo', (harlot), who had the effrontery to fight with an officer's girlfriend.
On getting to the brothel, Matthew was said to have flown into a rage and promised to make the place uncomfortable to Okoye though he was restrained from laying a finger on her by other patrons.
But trouble was lurking in the wait for him when, the very next day, Okoye's corpse was discovered by other prostitutes in her room with her private organs like Bosom s, eyes, honeypot, tongue and other parts missing from her body.
Promptly, they pointed accusing fingers at Corporal Matthew who was arrested and detained, though he denied killing the lady.
He is still trying to exonerate himself from the murder rap hanging on his head.
