VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Pope Francis' sex abuse advisory committee voted Saturday to sideline one of its members, a high-profile abuse survivor who had clashed with the commission over its mission.
Peter Saunders, a British advocate for victims, had been highly critical of the Vatican's slow pace of progress in taking measures to protect children and punish bishops who covered up for pedophile priests. He had also wanted the commission to intervene immediately in individual cases, rather than just craft long-term policies to fight abuse.
During a commission meeting Saturday, "it was decided that Mr. Peter Saunders would take a leave of absence from his membership to consider how he might best support the commission's work," the Vatican said.
The decision is a blow to Francis' efforts to show that he is tough on abuse, since the presence of Saunders and another abuse survivor, Marie Collins, had given the commission credibility.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Saunders said commission members, with one abstention, asked had him to step aside after concluding they could no longer trust him to work within the scope of the commission's mandate.
"I do not want to prevent the work of the commission, the good work that the commission is doing from going ahead, so I had no choice but to step aside," he said.
He said the Vatican's inaction in the face of continuing cases of children being raped and molested "made me lose faith in the process and lose faith in Pope Francis."
His departure leaves Collins as the lone abuse survivor on the commission, which was formed in 2013 to advise the Vatican on protecting children, educating church personnel and parishioners about abuse, and keeping pedophiles out of the priesthood.
Collins told the AP it was a "sad day" for the commission. She acknowledged Saunders' complaints about the pace of work but said the overall mission was still important.
"It is slow. It's not going to make changes overnight. And there are frustrations in that," she said. "But if we can change policy and get policies put in place that will stick around the world that will make children safer in the future, then it's worth making time to get it right."
The commission was formed after victims' groups questioned whether the Argentine pope, who had never dealt with an abuse case, really understood the scope of the scandal. But the commission took a big step last year when it successfully proposed that the Vatican create an in-house tribunal to hear cases of bishops accused of failing to protect their flocks.
The commission had been highly critical of Francis' decision to appoint a Chilean bishop despite allegations from abuse survivors that he had covered up for the country's most notorious pedophile, the Rev. Fernando Karadima.
One of Karadima's victims, Juan Carlos Cruz, joined Saunders on Saturday in Rome in hopes of speaking to the commission but was refused. Cruz had been proposed as a possible commission member but emails published in the Chilean media showed how the Chilean church hierarchy worked to keep him off the panel.

Liverpool announced Alex Teixeira’s price
Teixeira expressed his frustration
Liverpool has offered £24million for the Brazilian player. However, according to Shakhtar, Alex Teixeira’s release clause is £50 million.
Despite the desire of the player to leave the Ukranian club, Palkin said: “They offered €32 million (£24m) with a €4m (£3m) bonus. We obviously refused to accept it. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today.
We will sell only at the end of the season – we need to show serious results in Europa League and Ukrainian Championship. At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table. His buyout clause is €70m. [Liverpool] can pay it now if they want. We don’t mind”.
And Klopp urges Liverpool fans to stand by the club’s decision not to pursue the forward.
Klopp said:  “It’s very, very important that, yes, you can trust us. It was a common decision [on Teixeira]. We said, ‘We can’t play this game until the end’.”
The German coach added: “We made offers, I won’t say too much about that, but they were realistic, absolutely, with the premium of it being January, the Premier League, all the plusses you have when you make negotiations.
“But it was a case of, ‘If you don’t want it, OK, we can’t change the situation, both for now and the future’. It’s not that we haven’t got money or anything, but you have to work respectfully and responsibly. That’s what we do. “We will do things, for sure. Not in this window, but we will. It is like it is and it’s not you should buy and sell, buy and sell.”
He continued: “We have enough strikers, if they are all fit. So we have four strikers – although some are injured – plus Roberto [Firmino]. “If we were to find a solution in the offence that helps us not for three weeks, but three months or more, I would say OK.
“If we had, then we would’ve done it – but only for the right price, the normal price and not something else. The situation that we had wasn’t too easy but gave us the chance to show more faith and trust in young players than normal.”
In his interview Teixeira expressed his frustration: “The team received one official offer from the club. It was rejected. I don’t know why. It was a great offer.I am trying to leave but the manager and club president don’t want me to.
“So now I’m just waiting. Trying to be patient. There’s only been one offer, I don’t know how many millions, and Shakhtar rejected it. The club refused and I’m trying everything possible for them to accept so that I can go to Liverpool.”
Teixiera added: “I don’t know. It’s tough to answer that. I have tried everything to be able to leave the club – in a good way obviously. But the coach and the president don’t want me to, so I don’t know what to say for the moment.”
Speaking about Liverpool, he said: “Yes, it is a big club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt. The way I play is always looking to score, so I think I could help in that respect.
“Together with the talented players they already have in the squad. I played with  Coutinho when we were little, at the age of 10 or 11 years old. It would be an honour to play alongside him again. For me, [the Premier League] is the best league in the world and I want to experience that challenge in my career.

Stella Damasus is angry with Ghanaian filmmaker
Leila Djansi uses derogatory words on Nollywood
Stella tries to put the records straight
Stella Damasus
Nollywood actress Stella Damasus is not happy with Ghanaian filmmaker Leila Djansi for daring to call Nollywood derogatory names.
In a documentary Jimmy Goes To Nollywood, Djansi had spoken ill about Nollywood in a very bad way. Leila Djansi had said that new film producers should not be put under the blanket of Nollywood as that would not help their reputation. She said the new producers should be called independent producers as Nollywood carries negative connotation. She had also said that the new producers aligning themselves with Nollywood was as bad as a mother naming her son Hitler.
Leila Djansi
In a video posted on her YouTube channel a visibly angry Damasus addressed these negative statements made by Djansi about the Nigerian film industry.
Damasus reminded Djansi of the role Nollywood had played in African film industry. She also reminded her that two of her movies were embraced because she paraded Nollywood actors. Not only that, she also reminded her that the best Ghollywood actors are products of Nollywood where they also ply their trade.

Watch Stella Damasus outburst at Leila Djansi below:

Many Ghanaian actors ply their trade in Nollywood among them is Van Vicker, Nadia Buari. Juliet Ibrahim, Yvonne Nelson and many more.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp
Pep for next season on a three year deal.
The 45-year-old will replace Manuel Pellegrini, who will leave on June 30.
In his advice, Klopp disclosed that the kind of play in England is different from that of Spain, but Guardiola will enjoy it since he is a competitor.
“He will enjoy this league because it is a great league and a real competition and he is a real competitor – that is what he wants,” the Reds manager said.
“But I don’t think that it will be the same situation as he had in Spain, with Barcelona on the top level, or in Germany with Bayern on the top level.

“Manchester City is a club with not too bad possibilities on the financial side, shall we say (!), and Pep Guardiola is a really smart person — he won’t have chosen Man City because of his friendship with a few people there.
“So they won’t have the worst team in the world next year but I love this football because that doesn’t mean everything. As we have shown once or twice, you can beat these teams – that’s for sure.

Anjali Kumari and her brother Keshav Kumar suffer from an extremely rare disease
The disease casuses swollen faces, wrinkled skin, pain in joints and makes them look like pensioners
Their parents dream of a cure, but doctors say there is no treatment Keshav Kumar, 18 months, and his sister Anjali Kumari, 7, were born with a rare genetic disorder called cutis laxa and a form of progeria, that make them age rapidly and look 10 times their age.

Anjali Kumari (left), seven, and her 18-month-old brother Keshav Kumar (right)
The children have loose, wrinkled skin, swollen faces, they suffer from pain in their joints, have breathing issues and are prone to various infections.
(photos) In most cases, cutis laxa is inherited, but their father Shatrughan Rajak, 40, and mother Rinki Devi, 35, and oldest sister Shilpi, 11, do not suffer from the disease.

Tiny Keshav Kumar, just 18 months old, grabs a handful of the sagging skin on his stomach in his little fist.
Even though local doctors claim there is no cure for the disorder Keshav and Alhaji’s parents  hope that one day their children will be able to live a normal life.
The children’s parents amd elder sister
Little Anjali said: “I know I’m different from others my age. I have a different kind of face, a different body, different everything. I have a swollen face while the rest of the world looks normal. People always stare at me and pass bad comments.

The children in school call me names like daadi Amma (grandmother), budhiya (old lady), bandariya (monkey), or hanuman (a Hindu monkey lord) and it annoys me. I want to be treated like a normal kid and I want to be accepted for who I am.

Pictured, Anjali with her mother Rinki
I really wish I could look as pretty as my sister. My parents hope that I will be okay one day but it makes me feel sad that my family suffer and feel embarrassed because of me. My only wish is for a cure. I want to live a long pain free life.”
Doctors believe that the children suffer from a rare disorder called Progeria, which is extremely unusual and also untreatable
Their desparate father Shatrughan said: “We dream there is a cure for my children. People in our community call them ‘old’ and it’s heartbreaking. We’ve tried to get help from our local doctors but they have told us our only hope is from overseas.
  (photos)
I just hope someone can give us some answers. I am helpless. I feel very sad that I do not know what to do to help my children. I see them ageing faster than me and there is nothing I can do about it. It breaks my heart. I am praying for a miracle.”
Anjali already experiences ailments usually suffered by pensioners.
The siblings more or less stable now but if the disease progresses it can also affect the internal organs. Their lungs, heart, intestines, or arteries may be affected with a variety of severe impairments; they could face heart attack, chest infections, arthritis and so on.

“We have always done everything together…that is how our grandmother raised us. So when we decided to marry, we said any man that wants to marry one, will marry the other.”
Here’s hoping they all have a life of bliss together.
There is a battle raging in the house of late Biafran General’s, Odimegwu Ojukwu
His wife, has made controversial claims as the trial heats up.
Bianca Ojukwu, wife of late Biafran General, Odimegwu Ojukwu, has made highly controversial claims in an ongoing legal battle which is threatening the peace of the late warlord’s home.
The widow of the late Ikemba of Nnewi, made her claims on Monday, January 1, at the trial which held in a Lagos state High Court sitting at Igbosere.
Bianca Ojukwu
In the tussle between her and Ojukwu’s brothers over the family estate, Mrs Ojukwu in her evidence in chief before Justice Abdulfattah Lawal, admitted that neither her nor her children are shareholders or directors in Ojukwu Transport Limited (OTL).
She also admitted that Ojukwu has eight children which includes the claimants, Afamefuna and Nwachukwu, adding that she is the only one that was legally married among Ojukwu’s wives, as she engaged in court, Church and traditional marriage.
Bianca, under cross examination also told the court that the suit that was filed before the court is only for the right of her children and not other children of Ojukwu.

The witness further informed the court that some of the OTL properties in question had been in the possession of her late husband before his demise, adding that the rent of those properties were being collected by her husband.
NAN reports that Bianca had on behalf of her two under-aged children, Afamefuna and Nwachukwu (claimants) dragged Ojukwu Transport Limited (OTL), and seven others before a the court, over an alleged move by the family to eject her sons from the company’s properties located in Lagos.

Bianca who recently was returned to Nigeria for , said the properties were under the possession of late Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, the father of the claimants from the time the properties were released from government acquisition till date.
The claimants stated that throughout the period their father was struggling to retrieve the properties from the government, the second to seventh defendants “never played any role in the struggle nor contributed financially or otherwise to the realisation of the struggle.”
However, the judge adjourned the matter till today, for continuation of cross examination of Bianca.
– The insurgents kill 6 people in attack on Borno community
Nigerian Air Force bombards Sambisa forest
The deadly Boko Haram sect continued its deadly attacks in Borno state.
In a fresh attack on Goniambari village in Kaga local government area six people were killed while one resident received gunshot injury.
The sources said the terrorists also set ablaze some houses and cars using Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs before looting foodstuffs and livestock.
In a related development the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said it has continued aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest, with over 280 operational strikes organised against the insurgent targets in the area in the last one month.

Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, the deputy Air Theatre Commander of Operation, Lafiya Dole, said that the air raids and bombardments were led by the air component of the operation Lafiya Dole in the north-east.
He said that the current air operations and surveillance within the theater of operation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states were strengthened between December 2015 and January 2016 towards wiping out the deadly sect.
Several other air bombardments were carried out in and around the Sambisa forest region, further reducing the capacity of the insurgents.
Goniambari village is south and 15 kilometres from Beneshiekh, the council headquarters of Kaga local government of the state. Kaga is  about 80 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Boko Haram during last week several times attacked the capital of the state.
Just this morning another in Bulabulin-Umarari, two kilometers outside of Maiduguri, and Muna Garage within the city.
– Diya explains reason he thinks President Buhari is on the right track
– Speaks on relationship with Abacha
-He also highlighted the reason corruption has been prevalent in the country
General Oladipo Diya (rtd), a former Chief of General Staff (CGS) was Nigeria’s vice president under the late General Sani Abacha’s regime as Nigeria’s head of State.
He was arrested for treason in 1997 and would have been eliminated but for the death of his boss in 1998 as he was given a presidential pardon by Abdulsalami Abubakar who took over from Abacha.
In this no-holds-barred interview with The Sun, he declared categorically that President Muhammadu Buhari will not only successfully complete his first term of four years, he will run for another term in 2019 to complete his constitutionally allowed eight years.
General Oladipo Diya speaks on the present administration and his former boss.
Diya also opened up on his dilemma over the agitation for Ijebu state in 1996, and why it was not achieved when he was number two 2 citizen of the country.
Read excerpts from the interview here:
Do you think the 1985 coup that brought Gen Babangida to power was necessary, looking at the fact that the corruption which Buhari was fighting then is what Nigeria is still battling with now?
It’s so sad that Nigeria is still battling with the issue of corruption. But I was too junior at that time to comment or give opinion on issues like that. In the military, junior officers only obey laws and order. You don’t have opinion or comment on decisions. You’ll get to a particular rank before you can express your opinion, especially on tactical matters.
As a retired Lt General and former number two citizen, what do you have to say on the disrupted war against corruption and the crisis the country is facing today as a result of corruption?
The way I will look at it, government as late Chief Obafemi Awolowo said, is a continuum. Government is there. And there is a reason for government to exist. And problems would always be there for government to solve, otherwise why do we have government. Problems would always be there. It is unfortunate that people believe that once somebody comes and spends four years in government and leaves, that is the end of everything. No! Otherwise, you will have nothing to campaign about if there is no problem at all, Nobody will come to say I will do this, I will do that.
If the war against indiscipline embarked upon by Gen Buhari in 1984 had been sustained, what do you think Nigeria as a nation would have become by now?
President Muhammadu Buhari has been fighting corruption since he assumed power.
Well, it depends on the person there. I mean, when I was a governor, one day I heard a governor had been removed and redeployed. We wondered about what he did that could have led to his removal. Later, we heard that he approved a contract without the knowledge of the State Executive Council. You know we have State Executive Council. And certain things must pass through the State Executive Council before they are approved. So, if you implement certain projects without the knowledge and approval of the State Executive Council then you have committed an offence. So, when you hear that a governor has been removed because of that offence, it makes you to be more careful because you don’t want a situation where you will be held for such offence.
When late General Sani Abacha was the Head of State, he introduced War Against Indiscipline and Corruption, but after his death a lot of high level corrupt acts carried out by his government were exposed, do you regret being his deputy then?
Well, I thank God that I served innocently and fairly. And up till today, nobody has been able to raise an issue that General Diya did this or that. That alone gives me a sort of satisfaction of the mind, and a consolation. When you are talking in terms of corruption and all sort of negative things, nobody could say General Diya was involved.
Would you ascribe that to the kind of discipline you got under Buhari?
Yes. I served under Gen Buhari. And I knew Buhari would not tolerate any rubbish from anybody.
Are you saying that was the type of lifestyle you imbibed while in the military?
Yes; to the glory of God. And I still believe Buhari is still the same now. So, I’m happy.
Now, looking at corruption and the havoc it has caused in Nigeria, how will you describe the latest effort by President Buhari, bearing in mind that some people are already complaining that it is bringing hardship?
I have nothing to say, except to just appeal to everybody to be patient with Mr. President. Buhari is going to spend four years. And after that, he is going to spend another four years. He has not spent a year out of the first four years and people are already complaining. All I will say is for our people to just be patient and support the president.
About 20 years ago, there was strong agitation for creation of Ijebu State. What actually happened that Abacha could not honour you with the creation of the state, whereas Ekiti got it?

Late Sani Abacha was the Head of State when Diya was the number two man in Nigeria.
At the time the agitation for creation of more states started, people from the old Ijebu Province applied. But unfortunately, at the time the agitation for Ijebu State was going on, leaders of the Ijebu at that time were not in agreement with Abacha’s government for whatever reason. They were right for demanding for the creation of a state for Ijebu because among all the 12 provinces in Nigeria during the colonial era only Ijebu Province has not become a state. Some provinces have gotten up to two or three states each whereas the Ijebu province is still merged with Egba to be one state. So, they were right for demanding for creation of a state.
Unfortunately for them at that time, there was this NADECO (National Democratic Coalition) which was strongly opposed to the government of Abacha and formed mass resistance against military rule as far back as 1994, agitating for the actualisation of June 12, 1993 presidential election. NADECO leaders then were mostly leaders of Ijebu people, including our reverred father, late Chief Abraham Adesanya, who was a former senator and leader of the NADECO. People like Chief Ayo Adebanjo, even this our father from Ayepe-Ijebu, late Onasanya and many others, were leading the strong opposition against Abacha’s administration.
Above all, our revered royal father, Oba Awujale, was very outspoken in the struggle for actualisation of June 12. In fact, they named him Oba NADECO at that time in the government circle. They all had their reasons, but Abacha was not happy that these people were giving him serious headache at the time. How can he create a state for people who were committed to fighting his government to stand still. This was the main reason Abacha found it impossible for him to do.
Whereas the Ekiti people were not like that. The Ewi of Ado- Ekiti mobilized all the Obas in Ekiti and they came on solidarity visit to Abuja to see Abacha. So the Head of State and all around him were impressed with the visit. I knew immediately that he would surely create Ekiti State for the people. You know, I, Oladipo Diya brought Prof. Aluko to Abacha to work with the government. So, during the time of the agitation for state creation, Aluko encouraged the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti to come. And all the Obas in Ekiti paid solidarity visit. Prominent people from Ekiti like General Adeyinka Adebayo(rtd), Aare Afe Babalola were not found in any opposition group and they all worked towards the actualisation of Ekiti State. Both Baba Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo(rtd) and Chief Afe Babalola were not in NADECO at all.
Now, tell me, if two groups of people are asking for something from you. And leaders of one group are committed to fighting you, the other group does not give you any problem, instead, expresses some level of support for you, would you give those who are committed to giving you strong opposition and asking you to leave your position of authority? That was what happened on the issue of Ijebu State. The opposition from leaders of Ijebu in NADECO was very tough. I said they used to call this same Awujale, Oba NADECO, instead of Oba Awujale, you can understand my dilemma. While Awujale was also agitating for creation of Ijebu State, he was also insisting on having the state capital in Ijebu Ode, while the people of Remo were saying they don’t want their identity to be lost to state creation. They want the name to be Ijebu- Remo, or Remo-Ijebu State.
The Akarigbo of Remoland even said recently that they want it to be named Awolowo State if the capital must be in Ijebuland, and if it must be named Ijebu State, that the capital should be in Remo. Abacha was only laughing at them because he didn’t want to create a state for those who wanted him to vacate his seat. That is the whole truth.
How did you feel on that day in 1996 when states created by Abacha were announced and none was for your people?
Because I knew earlier that the Head of State was not interested in creating a state for people he saw as giving him problem, I was not surprised.
Some people said you were making efforts to make Odogbolu, your hometown, the State Capital?
(Cuts in) Not some people. It was the Awujale himself; because he made a broadcast. You know he is our Baba. Whenever he talks; as a father he jokes a lot. So, any time he talks and cracks those jokes I would just laugh. He was the one who said that Odogbolu wanted to be capital. What type of thing is that? Would I say I would not allow a state to be created if the capital is not in Odogbolu? What kind of nonsense is that? How can I say that? In fact, even if it is Odogbolu, is Odogbolu not in Ijebu? That is not an issue at all. As a father, you should be happy that it is in Ijebu. But, like I said, he is our father.

Nigerians are not happy over the trips of their president as the country is facing a lot of challenges now.
– Nigerian police officers display their newly acquired training in counter terrorism.
– The security operatives public display is aimed at sending a signal to Boko Haram members.
Some Nigerian police officers, this afternoon, February 2, 2016, took to the street of Abuja to display their newly acquired training from the counter terrorism unit of the force.

The counter terrorism arm is responsible for curbing of any possible terrorist attacks. The officers whose morale are very high took to the street of the FCT to display their newly acquired tactics. Demonstrating in unison and flaunting their sophisticated fire power.
Other security personnel from the counter terrorism unit were also seen on the street display.
The security dogs handlers were not left out of the public display of security preparedness, which is believed to be aimed at sending a stern warning to the Boko Haram members.

Recall that as Nigeria became deeply plagued by the destructive activities of the Boko Haram terrorist group, the Federal Government received help from the U.S. Government’s Anti-terrorism Assistance Programme (ATA) in October 2015.

About 200 Nigerian police officers benefited from that training, which ATA said was the largest in Nigeria.
The U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Mrs Maria Brewer, at the training in Abuja, explained that the exercise was aimed at achieving new innovation among the participants.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Every four years, Iowa is besieged by thousands of journalists and cameramen, adrift in a Midwestern culture many have never experienced. They breathlessly report the discovery of farms, rifles and meatloaf.
As Yahoo News discovered when we dove into the rabbit hole of local Iowa Facebook groups, not all Iowans spend their days atop a tractor. They include arty feminists, dedicated cosplay nerds, obsessive vapers and many other interesting things.
And they also may have interesting political opinions. We asked a few Iowa Facebook groups to describe the political candidates through the lens of their hobbies. Below, a brief and incredibly educational survey of what we discovered:
This private 688-person group is one of Iowa’s many online vape communities, dedicated to the pleasures of getting a nicotine fix without tobacco, where members are encouraged to share their “favorite juices and pictures.” Clayton Wentzel, a 28-year-old Des Moines resident who works at the 2-month-old Atomic Cloud Vaporium, is one such member. Though Wentzel confesses he’s “not that into politics,” because he “hates seeing the wrong kind of people getting support,” he had much to say about where a few candidates would fit in the vape world.
“I’d like to think Bernie would be a vaper,” he told Yahoo News. “And he would be a flavor chaser for sure.”
A flavor chaser, for the uninformed, is a particular vaper who spends his free time collecting and tasting new e-liquids and vape juices.
“He actually listens to people and hears them out,” he said. “Tries a lot of juice and hears a lot of stories.”
On the flip side, Wentzel pictures Donald Trump as a “cloud chaser,” a vaper who puts together a device designed to blow the biggest and most attention-grabbing vapor cloud.
“It’s all showmanship,” he said. “He puts on a show for attention. Doesn’t care about anything but the cloud.”
As the description of this 1,092-member community says, “If you like Halloween, costumes, Cosplay, comic books, video games, monster movies, aliens, historical reenactments … all in the state of Iowa … THIS IS THE GROUP FOR YOU!!!”
Cosplay filmmaker Pierre Doanatto, 39, joined the group to trade tips for constructing costumes and share news of upcoming Comic-Con-esque events. Doanatto says he’s mostly unimpressed by the candidates. “There’s always a candidate that promises to do this and that, but it never happens, because they get redirected to do something else.”
Of everyone on the roster, however, he thinks Trump would likely be the most natural cosplayer because “he’s done TV and film.” He was also happy to imagine what characters certain candidates might best embody.
According to Doanatto, Trump would be Serpentor, the snakelike Cobra Emperor from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic book and cartoon series. He pictures Ted Cruz as the historical figure Napoleon for his demeanor and personality. “He even somewhat looks like him.” Marco Rubio would be the Joker from Batman (similar shoes). Jeb Bush would be MODOK, a Marvel villain created by scientists that was originally designed as MODOC (a Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing) but turns evil and renames itself MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing). Finally, he says Chris Christie would be the Violator, a portly, machine-gun toting clown from the Spawn comic books.
On the Democratic side, Doanatto pictures Hillary Clinton as the Evil Queen from Snow White. Bernie Sanders’ posture and hairstyle, he says, would make the Vermont senator a natural for the role of Mr. Burns — you know, aside from the whole billionaire part.
The 526-member Des Moines Girl Gang aims to create a “non-exclusive, female-driven, supportive and encouraging community of artists that thrives on sharing creative endeavors and resources with one another.” Postings include potential job leads, invites to local knitting groups (described lovingly as “Stitch ‘n’ Bitch” sessions) and notices of upcoming pop-up cat cafés.
Kate Moore, a graphic designer at Des Moines’ Delta Design, says that while the group has a feminist bent, its political views cover a wide spectrum — from those concerned about social equality to local entrepreneurs with small-business interests.
