When it comes to red carpet beauty, nothing beats a classic red lip. It’s timeless, it’s glamorous, and it’s always on trend. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at this year’s Venice Film Festival attendees.
Last night Kristen Stewart hit the red carpet for the premiere of “Equals” wearing a stunning Chanel couture gown from the fall 2015 collection but it was that rich, oxblood lip by makeup artist Pati Dubroff that got us talking. Dubroff was also behind Dakota Johnson’s rosy red pout at the premiere of “Black Mass” on Friday night.

Elizabeth Banks and Paz Vega were on the same page when it came to pairing their white gowns with a swipe of red lipstick. Banks opted for a warm, firey red and Vega went with a deeper, blue based hued. These leading ladies have proven that you can’t go wrong with red.

At age 17, Frankie Harrer is already a two-time national champion in surfing, has set National Scholastic Surfing Association records for most competitions won, and is signed to major surf label Billabong. In other words, she’s kind of a big deal. But with her laidback style and easygoing attitude, you’d never know it. In fact, when she’s not traveling, you’re likely to find the teen cooking up healthy meals in her family kitchen or hiking in her hometown of Malibu. We caught up with the pro surfer in between trips to El Salvador and the south of France to talk all things beach beauty. Read on for her fitness, diet and product obsessions (spoiler alert: coconut oil plays a starring role).
So, how did you get into surfing?
Frankie Harrer: My family has a house in Kauai, Hawaii, so I took my first lesson there when I was about seven. I started surfing with some friends from school and it all started happening. A few years later, I signed with Billabong, which has been great.
What’s the best place in the world that you’ve surfed?
Tahiti, for sure. It’s so beautiful and the waves are really good. The water is so blue and there are crazy reefs underneath. There are huge mountains, and it rains a lot, so the beaches have this green, rainforest-y background. It’s amazing.
Let’s talk workouts. What does yours usually look like?
When I’m home, I surf every morning and then I do a workout afterward. A couple of times a week, I go to our family friend’s [Laird Hamilton] house and we have a whole crew that does pool training. It’s a bunch of different exercises underwater – working with weights, squatting, and breath holding. And then we do an ice tub and sauna. I also do gym workouts at home and swim a little bit. When the waves are good, I’ll surf twice a day!
And what about your diet?
I’m actually transitioning away from being a vegan right now. I talked to some nutritionists and they recommended that I incorporate a few animal products into my diet for energy. I’ve been experimenting, and doing it slowly. I think that’s better than just jumping in and having a big steak. But, I feel pretty good and it’s definitely easier to have fewer restrictions when I’m traveling.
Most mornings, I’ll have a big smoothie bowl. I’ll put bananas, berries, some maca, spirulina, and other superfoods in. Sometimes, if I’m doing a hard workout, I’ll put some plant-based protein powder too. Then, I top it with berries or any other fruit that’s in season and some nuts too. It’s really good. I’m addicted.
For lunch, I cut up whatever’s in the fridge and just throw it together. It’s a kitchen sink salad. I do different dressings and try to incorporate good fats, like avocado. Now, I put some protein like egg or salmon as well. I still do vegan a lot of days though, so then I’ll put some beans to add substance.
My mom cooked for the family forever, but now it’s kind of a fun thing that I like to do with my younger sister. We take over the kitchen!
Do you have any favorite blogs for recipe inspiration?
There’s this blog called Oh She Glows, that’s sort of a vegan blog that I read. Mostly, I just look at healthy cookbooks and stalk people on Instagram and screenshot the dishes I like. I’m not good at following recipes exactly, so I read them and then create my own versions.
And what beauty products are you using right now?
I really like natural products. I try to stick with them as much as I can. I’ve been using some things from this Italian company called Radice, which are vegan and super natural. And I have some stuff from Simply Divine Botanicals that I found at this juice place in Hawaii. I really like their Rose du Jour cream and their eye cream – it’s called Pack Your Bags They’re Leaving, which is funny. They’re cool because they have very clean ingredients.
I’m also a big fan of coconut oil. I never use other moisturizers really. I just go to the store and get the same one that I use for cooking. I keep one in my bathroom and one in the kitchen. I put it in my hair too, just to help put some moisture back. I’ll do a little Argan oil too, but nothing fancy.
For sunscreen, I use an amazing one called Shade. A local guy from Malibu started the company and it’s so good. That’s all I need.
I don’t really wear makeup everyday, because it would be annoying to take it off and put it back on. But when I do, I like MAC. I use their tinted moisturizer, some powder, some blush, and a little mascara. I’m not so good at applying my own makeup, so I keep it really simple.
Being in a bikini is pretty much your job, how do you keep yourself feeling body confident?
I think every girl, regardless of age or what her body looks like, has some little things they would want to change. Nobody is perfect, so it’s important to be happy with what you’ve got. Be confident. That’s the most attractive thing you can do.
You’ve had an awesome career so far. What’s up next?
My goal right now is to qualify for the World Tour. That’s kind of what I’m working on for the next couple of years. But, I mostly just want to have fun. It’s important for me, and for everyone, to remember to live in the moment. I’m doing what I love, so we’ll see what happens!

Emily Ratajkowski, 24, is one of the stars in the new flick “We Are Your Friends.” (Photo: Billy Farrell/BFA.com)
Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski has had quite the last few years. Lately, she’s been traveling the world, promoting her new flick with Zac Efron, We Are Your Friends. And before that, the 24-year-old had a memorable part in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video in 2013, and also played opposite Ben Affleck in the 2014 film Gone Girl. So with all these high-profile roles, it’s not surprising that Ratajkowski is often asked about how she gets, and maintains, that enviable body.
And sure, she’ll tell you how she likes to stay in shape, or her go-to healthy foods. But she won’t share this info because she wants you to try to do the same exact thing, to achieve the exact same results — because the truth is, every person is different.
“People will say ‘How do I get abs like you?’” she shares. “I don’t know. We’re all different. If my girlfriend did what I did, hiking and yoga for a workout, it would affect her body in a different way. That’s the message that I really want to get out there. I’m trying to counteract that culture. “
"I feel like it’s always about how this girl stays thin, or what one girl is doing to another, and it shouldn’t be that way,” Ratajkowski adds. “Female empowerment is always something that I’ve felt. It’s not about just being a model, it’s about women in general.”
She plans to spread her message further by teaming up with Lena Dunham to contribute to her newsletter “Lenny,” which will offer advice, essays, and product recommendations to millennial women. “I’m really excited about it,” Ratajkowski tells Yahoo Health at an event hosted by Refinery29 for the U.S. launch of Primark.

Ratajkowski was raised to feel confident in her skin from a young age. As a child, she would go to the beach with her mom, who would go topless; around the house, Ratajkowski would often run around naked. “I have a mom who always taught me that I never had to apologize for my body,” she says. “She taught me that it was a cultural issue and not about me.”
That’s not to say, though, that she doesn’t have her insecurities — the star reveals she has things she’s self-conscious about, just like everyone else. "For sure there’s parts of my body I’m insecure about,” Ratajkowski divulges. “I don’t like the space underneath my butt. We all have stuff like that.

“Last night’s vibes.” Kanye West in Haider Ackerman with Kim Kardashian in Valentino. Photo: @kimkardashianwest/Instagram
Kim Kardashian West is no typical wedding guest. She doesn’t borrow a dress from Rent the Runway, shop her closet, or dash last minute to a department for something to wear, instead she calls on her designer friends from Olivier Rousteing at Balmain or Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy for custom gowns. So for a friend’s nuptials on Sunday, the reality star called on Valentino to outfit her.
From the Spring 2015 couture collection, the silk gown the 34-year-old wore featured a fitted floor-length silk dress with sharp shoulders. A cape draped down the back and she accessorized with a gold choker. A popular silhouette, Solange Knowles, Katy Perry, and Lupita Nyong’o have all worn similar styles from various brands.
While the dress Kardashian West wore was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the current designers at the Italian house, the West family is such good friends with founder Valentino Garavani that he hosted the couple’s wedding at his estate.

It was a good style weekend for Kim Kardashian West. The pregnant reality star was spotted out and about in NYC over the holiday weekend, first on Sunday at a wedding alongside husband (and 2020 presidential hopeful) Kanye West wearing a glamorous Valentino cape gown that flattered her growing baby bump. And on Monday, Kardashian had lunch with daughter North West and later sipped tea with US Open star Serena Williams in New York City, wearing jeans, a vintage Ramones T-shirt, and a (not quite weather appropriate, but still cool) wool coat. Unlike some of her recent tight and restrictive ensembles, both outfits really complement her pregnancy curves, making her look both comfortable and confident.
In addition to her on-point fashion choices, her makeup was flawless, thanks to her trusty makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic. For the Sunday evening wedding, Dedivanovic gave Kardashian a classic smoky eye, super defined brows, and a pretty nude lip. If you’re looking for inspiration for your next night out, this look is it.

When Monday night’s hangout with Williams rolled around, Kardashian’s complexion was impeccable (a Dedivanovic signature) with just the right amount of contour and highlight, and a glossy pink lip. She actually wore the same look earlier that day for a lunch date, proving that a simple-but-polished look can easily take you from day to night.
Kylie Jenner with makeup by Ariel Tejada. (Photo: Instagram)
With 35 million followers and pictures that go viral within minutes, Kylie Jenner knows her way around Instagram. She even found her newest makeup artist there — and he’s only 20 years old. “When Kylie DMed me and asked to work with me the next time I was in Los Angeles, I said I’d happen to be there next week,” New York native Ariel Tejada told Yahoo Beauty. “Mind you, I didn’t even have a flight booked or anything.” He booked his flight the day before he was scheduled to meet with Jenner and since then, he’s done Khloe Kardashian and Kendall Jenner’s makeup for filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians. He also just signed the lease on his first apartment. “I didn’t expect to stay in Los Angeles, but I’ve been working so much with Kylie, I thought, why leave?” he said.
Last September, Tejada messaged Lilly Ghalichi, a reality star from Bravo’s Shahs of Sunset. “I said, ‘I am going to kill your makeup. When you come to New York, let me know, it will be the best makeup you’ve ever had.’” Ghalichi didn’t reply the first —or second time — that she was messaged by Tejada, but when she visited New York for Fashion Week, she got in touch and helped open other doors for Tejada.
Much of Tejada’s young career has been hustling in front of social media — and yes, talking himself up until people started taking him seriously. “If there is one thing that has helped me the most, it’s Instagram,” Tejada said. “Posting your work and being consistent with your work is so important!” Tejada studied vocal performance at a performing arts high school, but as senior year approached, he decided to give makeup a real shot. He messaged photographers to set up test shoots to build up his portfolio. “I would hype myself up to get these test shoots,” Tejada admitted. “I was like, I’m the most incredible makeup artist! Even though I knew nothing. But I think I was pretty good for a mediocre artist.” Tejada does not lack confidence or tenacity — and in a world full of social media personalities, it’s his willingness to Direct Message celebrities that has helped him stand out.
Naya Rivera with makeup by Ariel Tejada. (Photo: Instagram)
True to his statement of intent, Tejada’s entire Instagram features photos of every single look he has done for the Instafamous, from Kylie Jenner at the MTV Video Music Awards to Glee star Naya Rivera on ABC’s The View. His signature Airbrushed-by-God technique is uncannily similar to those of perfectionist Italian Renaissance masters, who made their brushstrokes invisible in order to hide the sign of a human hand at work. Tejada’s painted faces are indeed perfect: they are poreless, they glow, their eyelashes look like they grow on their own, and they never smile with teeth — that would ruin their perfect pout. But it’s not all paint: “If you don’t have great skin, your makeup won’t look great. These girls all have great skin,” Tejada says. He uses AmorePacific Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Serum ($100), AmorePacific Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Crème ($150), and Khiel’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($47) to prep the makeup.
Tejada also splurges on his foundations—like any Renaissance master knows, you start with a flat wash before you start adding shadows, lines, and shapes. He prefers cream foundations in order to easily get that airbrushed, pore-free, #nofilter look, but also loves Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($62). “It’s good for any kind of makeup look you want,” he says. For drop-dead eyelashes, he recommends Hollywood starlet favorite Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler ($21) and L'Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara ($8). While there is a slew of products available on the market that are geared towards Instagram-worthy selfies, like Too Faced Selfie Powder, which comes in three colors to emulate the effects of filters, Tejada prefers to go old school with Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($37) and Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Pale Yellow ($38). For lip color, he prefers using a range of peach and earth tones. “A subtle lip is sexier to me,” he says.
She had three kids?!
Kourtney Kardashian showed her ex Scott Disick what he was missing when she posted a pic of her in a sexy gold bikini on Monday.
The mother of Mason, Penelope and Reign Disick also showed off her skills on a tricycle. "Happy Labor Day!" the 36-year-old reality star Instagrammed to her 23.9 million followers. "Wait, there's no emoji for a tricycle with no handles?!"
This isn't the first time Kourtney has flashed her bodacious bod since her split from Scott in July.
After her bikini-clad St. Barts vacation with the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kourtney posted a selfie of her posed in ab-baring workout gear. "No breaks," she captioned the pic.
Kourtney's mother, Kris Jenner, recently praised her oldest daughter in Haute Living magazine, following her daughter's breakup.
"She’s kind of my hero right now -- she makes good decisions," Kris said. "She always puts her children first and is accepting, loving, and dedicated to her family -- she doesn’t get easily ruffled. This situation has made me realize how strong she is."

Peter Koper and Andreas Richter nazi train
(Screen grab/TVP) Piotr Koper and Andreas Richter.
The two men who said they found a lost World War II-era Nazi ghost train in Poland have identified themselves amid claims that the train's existence was a hoax. Identifying themselves as Andreas Richter and Piotr Koper, the men appeared on TVP.INFO and read a prepared statement, the Associated Press reports.
"As the finders of a World War II armored train, we, Andreas Richter and Piotr Koper, declare that we have legally informed state authorities about the find and have precisely indicated the location in the presence of Walbrzych authorities and the police," Koper said, according to the Associated Press.
"We have irrefutable proof of its existence," he added.
According to Koper, he and Richter found the train by using their "own resources, eyewitness testimony, and our own equipment and skills," the AP notes.
Along with their statement, the men released an image taken with ground-penetrating radar that purportedly showed the armored Nazi train.

Here's the radar image of the train:

According to local folklore, the German train is believed to have vanished in 1945 with stolen gold, gems, and weapons while fleeing the Russians. The only living source of the train legend, retired miner Tadeusz Slowikowski, confirmed to the Associated Press that Koper and Richter shared their findings with him before alerting authorities.
Slowikowski, who searched for the train in 2001, believes it is near the 65th kilometer of railway tracks from Wroclaw to Walbrzych.
According to Koper and Richter's statement, the train is not in a tunnel, as previously thought, but buried under ground.

Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said military chemical weapons experts inspected the site because of suspicions the train was rigged with explosives. Meanwhile, investigators in Poland have suggested that the recently discovered train "could be the first of many," The Telegraph reports.
Koper and Richter, who are by law entitled to a 10% reward, have offered to help cover the costs of the train's excavation and hope it will become a local tourist attraction in the future.
