The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the unemployment rate in the country in on the rise.
The NBS in a report released yesterday in Abuja, said the
unemployment rate in the second quarter of the year rose to 8.2 per cent
from the 7.5 per cent rate it was in the preceding quarter.

The recent rise was the consecutive jump in unemployment rate since the third quarter of last year.
Analysis of unemployment rate revealed that the working age,
comprising persons within the age of 15 to 64, increased to 103.5
million in the Q2 up from 102.8 million in the first quarter.
The Bureau disclosed that the labour force population, which includes
those within the working age, who are willing, and actively looking for
work, increased to 74.0 million in Q2 from 73.4 million in Q1,
indicating an increase in the labour force by 0.81 per cent.
Which means, 574,498 economically active persons aged between 15 and
64 joined the labour market during the quarter under review.
The agency blamed the decline in the number of full employment to job
losses or previously fully-employed persons, choosing or being forced
to work part-time.

The report revealed that the economically active population or
working age population, which are persons within ages 15 to 64,
increased from 102.8 million in the first quarter to 103.5 million in
the second quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, the high rate of unemployment in the country has gotten
the attention of the House of Representatives as the lawmakers
unanimously called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on unemployment.

The maiden edition, which held on 14th March 2015 at the University of Lagos, was based on skills acquisition for students in different areas of human endeavours.
