The event which is scheduled for August 21st at the Education Auditorium, UNILAG is theme for Student Empowerment by way of scholarship/empowerment for students to fashion schools; beauty/make-up training; as well as bead making skills. And again, there will be a fashion show/seminar which will feature celebrity fashion designers as well as budding fashion designers on campuses. There will also be music segment that will feature top artistes and comedians in the music industry.

Other activities lined up for the event include road walk which will take ‘Students On The Runway’ on campaign tours to 4 different higher institutions.
World-renowned motivational speaker, Gbenga Ademujimi will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 ‘Students On The Runway’. Also expected to speak on the importance of hard work are brand managers from different organizations.
The maiden edition, which held on 14th March 2015 at the University of Lagos,  was based on skills acquisition for students in different areas of human endeavours. There was also a Fashion show aimed at promoting decent dressing culture on the campus amongst students. ‘Students On The Runway’ is a twice in a session programme which has in its kitty a special publication.

A new statistics has shown the alarming rate of out-of-school children in Nigeria at 11 million and the northern part of the country account for a whopping 90% of that figure.

This disturbing figure was drawn to the attention of Nigerians by the the Bayero University Kano (BUK) Alumni Association on Thursday July 30. The association  expressed shock over the figure while calling the federal government to as matter of urgency to declare a state of emergency in the sector.
The Punch reported that the ex-students of BUK said that such declaration become necessary to draw government’s attention to the sad state of country education sector pointing out this will make it possible for the government to implement free and compulsory  primary and secondary education.
This, they stated, is in line with best practices worldwide.
 
The president and vice-president of BUK Alumni Association, Dattijo Usman and  Dr. Nazifi Darma made this call in an interview with newsmen ahead of its fund-raising dinner scheduled for Saturday in Abuja.
Usman pleaded with the 19 governors of the northern states to take urgent steps to address the menace of Almajiri and hawkers to reduce social vices as well as insurgency.
He said: “Recent statistics have shown that 11 million children are not in school. The trend is increasing because out of this figure, 90 per cent (about 9.9 million) of them come from the North. It is our duty to draw the attention of policy makers and the National Assembly to ensure the implementation of UNESCO policy.
“Out of school cases are responsible for insurgency and Boko Haram. All these cosmetic Almajiri schools will not help matters. A state of emergency should be declared in education and all children of school age should be compelled to go to school.
“The government must ensure that children go to primary and secondary schools. It happened in other countries and Nigeria should not be an exception. We must do it here in Nigeria and every child must go to school, beginning from the primary and secondary levels.
“We are worried by this Almajiri menace. In fact, the 19 northern states governors should do something to reduce the trend. We hope to reach the governors. It is the responsibility of everyone of us to ensure that the future is better than our past.”
The immediate past administration of  President Goodluck Jonathan was reported to have build Almajiri schools across the northern states with the aim of providing integrated education that would comprise basic western education alongside Islamic education as a means of reducing the level of illiteracy in the Nor

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that the unemployment rate in the country in on the rise.
The NBS in a report released yesterday in Abuja, said the unemployment rate in the second quarter of the year rose to 8.2 per cent from the 7.5 per cent rate it was in the preceding quarter.

The recent rise was the consecutive jump in unemployment rate since the third quarter of last year.
Analysis of unemployment rate revealed that the working age, comprising persons within the age of 15 to 64, increased to 103.5 million in the  Q2 up from 102.8 million in the first quarter.
The Bureau disclosed that the labour force population, which includes those within the working age, who are willing, and actively looking for work, increased to 74.0 million in Q2 from 73.4 million in Q1, indicating an increase in the labour force by 0.81 per cent.
Which means, 574,498 economically active persons aged between 15 and 64 joined the labour market during the quarter under review.
The agency blamed the decline in the number of full employment to job losses or previously fully-employed persons, choosing or being forced to work part-time.
 
The report revealed that the economically active population or working age population, which are persons within ages 15 to 64, increased from 102.8 million in the first quarter to 103.5 million in the second quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, the high rate of unemployment in the country has gotten the attention of the House of Representatives as the lawmakers unanimously called on President Muhammadu Buhari on unemployment.

Nigerian military during a recent raid at Benishiekh and Mainok towns of Kaga local government area of the troubled northeast state of Borno, arrested 30 shop owners over their close ties and with the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, Daily Post reports.
According to Daily Post, a security source who pleaded anonymous because he was not authorized to speak, said on Sunday, July 2, that the suspects were helping the security with vital information including names of prominent personalities.
He said: “There are going to be surprises if President Buhai is going to act on information at the disposal of security agencies. The rumour making the rounds about names of personalities involved in Boko Haram activities and sponsorship is going to shock many Nigerians.”
 
Adding that: “The arrests at Benishiekh last week when we raided the town is already giving signal to the fact that, prominent people are involved with Boko Haram. These shop owners are the suppliers of food items, money, fuel and other needs of the Boko Haram fighters. They also revealed how they attack Benishiekh town to deceive people.”
When asked to give some of the names of the arrested persons he said: “I do not have their names, I am not in position to give their names. We are soldiers and our duty is to make sure we do what we are asked to do. We raided the area in a mop up operation and made some arrest, which fortunately led to the shocking arrests of those personalities we are talking about.”
In reaction to reports that the names of about 25 Borno indigenes  have been given to President Buhari for action, he said, the information has been going round for sometime now.
 
“Let’s not talk about rumours. I am just telling you about those people we arrested in the mop up operations and that is what I know,” the source said.
Some travellers who plied the Maiduguri/Damaturu road have also confirmed the mop up operation, they told Daily Post that they were held on that road for eight hours until the mop up operation ended.
In a related development,
Osun Defender reports that, Fanaye was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, July 31. He was said to have in his possession assault weapons, and phone SIM cards for various countries, including Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
Meanwhile, Bukola Saraki, Senate president, has promised to do everything possible to support President Muhammadu Buhari in his bid to stop deadly Boko Haram insurgency.

Saraki described the election of Odusile as well deserved going by his track record of professionalism as a journalist but noted that the union under the new leadership must devise means of ensuring that some individuals who harass people at public functions while claiming to be journalists are dealt with according to the law so as to stop them from creating a bad image for the profession.
 
“The new executives under Odusile should take the issue of enforcement of compliance with professional ethics as a priority. Journalists of today should be ready to abide by the code of ethics of the profession and they should be more professional because their role in sustaining democracy and on-going development in the country cannot be emphasised.
“No doubt that you have what it takes to lead a critical body like the NUJ at this juncture in our democratic journey. I am particularly pleased that your election was based on your popularity and wide acceptance by your colleagues from all over the country,” he said in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu.
He enjoined the new NUJ boss to use his new position to better the lots of both journalists in the country and journalism profession because the contribution of the media will go a long way to boost the efforts of the present administration to revamp the nation’s economy.
He said he is looking forward to a robust partnership with the media and their elected representatives in the task of making legislation that will lead to improved standard of living in the country.
On his part, Obasa described the peaceful election conducted by the NUJ as a clear indication that Nigerian journalists have real democratic instincts in them which is worthy of emulation.
“The peaceful conduct of the NUJ election is also a clear indication that Nigerian journalists are determined to walk the talk, practising the ideal they preach daily through their writings, and presentation on air. The global wish has always been the conduct of peaceful democratic elections without rancour and devoid of chaos. This is what Nigerian journalists have just done and I want to especially commend them for this lofty achievement. Indeed, your conduct is worthy of emulation,” Speaker Obasa said.
 
The Lagos Assembly Speaker also called on those who lost out in the election to cooperate and work together with the new executives to move journalism profession forward in the country.
“In every contest, there is always a winner and a loser which is the case in this particular contest. The election is over, what is left is for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the Waheed Odusile led administration succeed in its resolve to move the journalism profession forward in the country. The goal should be continuous improvement of the profession and advancement in the welfare of its practitioners,” he said.
While wishing the Waheed Odusile led executive council of the NUJ a successful tenure in office, the Speaker, called on journalists in Nigeria to support government at all levels in ensuring the success of the country’s democratic process
“The sterling roles you have been playing in promoting positive democratic ideals in the country are well noted and documented but you should not rest on your oars in promoting these ideals.Once again, I congratulate the new NUJ President, Waheed Odusile, and I congratulate all journalists in Nigeria on this successful and peaceful democratic process,” Obasa said.
The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole has said the ongoing crisis rocking the National Assembly would soon be a thing of the past.
Speaking on Monday, July 27, with State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, Oshiomhole said the meeting they had with the warring Senators on Sunday evening was useful, Punch reports.
The goverenor said they met with Buhari to brief him on how their meeting with the Senators went.
The National Assembly has been embroiled in crisis following the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate president against the choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Lawan.
In a bid to resolve the crisis, the party had chosen Oshiomhole and Bagudu to mediate between the warring Senators.
 
According to Governor Oshiomhole, their intervention was just to ensure that there would be an all-inclusive leadership in the National Assembly.
He said: “I feel the position now is ‘look how do you ensure that having elected this two (Senate President and his Deputy), that the remaining position that are within the discretion of the APC caucus in the Senate are distributed in a way as to give the other group that were shut out of the process a sense of belonging?’”
“We are convinced that a winner-takes-all in this case won’t work and building peace is making concession and power works better when it acknowledges that even the person who is powerless has a right to exist.
“My brother (Bagudu) and I spent some time with the senators last night (Sunday) and we had what I think was a useful conversation. We have come today to report to the President what transpired at the meeting and make few suggestions to him and I think for me there is light, as they say, at the end of the tunnel.”
 
The governor stated that the APC has what it takes to resolve the issues it was having in the National Assembly so they can have a united APC Senate caucus that is ready to support the change agenda as the President is committed to and work along with PDP.
Lending his voice, Governor Bagudu said the APC caucus members in the Senate were craving a solution to end the crisis, which is the most important thing.
Just like some APC members are against Saraki’s emergence as Senate president, they are also against the emergence of Yakubu Dogara as speaker of the House of Representatives.
Despite reports that some key members of the APC group known as the Loyalist Group have reached a truce, others have said , adding that no agreement has been reached.

An exparte application by five senators seeking to stop the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, from constituting the Senate Standing Com­mittees has been refused by an Abuja Federal High Court.

Senators including Abu Ibrahi, Kabiru Garba Marafa, Robert Ajayi Borof­fice, Olugbenga Ashafa and Senator Sulei­man Othman Hunkuyi had approached the court stating that the Senate Standing Rule for Mr Saraki’s June 9 election was forged.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole, who is the trial judge said the matter falls within internal af­fairs of the Senate which the court must be wary to go into it. He added that there is no evi­dence that the five senators had the mandate of the other 104 senators.
Be­ing an exparte application, Mr Saraki had no opportuni­ty of defending the suit, thus, the judge reject the prayers of the senators and held that it would be as if he is determining the entire case on its merit.
 
The judge said that the senate standing order 2015 as amended, upon which the plaintiffs predicated their ex-parte motion, had been in existence since June 9 when the senate president and his deputy were elected and as such the issue of urgency raised by the five senators was self-inflicted.

Mr Saraki who spoke on Wednesday when he received a delegation from the United Kingdom Emerging Capital Market Taskforce, led by Mr. Roger Gifford, in Abuja said the Eighth Senate will surprise Nigerians with the quality of legislation it will provide the Buhari led administration.
He said the present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari is working towards attracting investors whose entry will revamp the nation’s stock market and ailing industries that dot the landscape.
He pointed out that apart from the country’s historical relationship with the United Kingdom (UK), Nigeria expects robust economic ties with her former colonial master as well as investments that will assist in the area of industrialization, employment generation and technological development.
While reiterating the commitment of the Eighth Senate towards facilitating the development of the nation’s economy.
“The Senate is acutely aware that as attractive as Nigeria’s market is for investment, the challenge is in creating a friendly business environment that is conducive and competitive in today’s global context.
“We are already taking the bull by the horns and we are at advanced stage of putting together an engagement structure with the business community to fashion out a holistic plan of action that will bring about a comprehensive review of the regulatory instruments and legal structures that inhibit investments and depress capital formation across our business structure,” Saraki stated.
The Senate President assured that the Senate will at all times support and push for policies that will create deep, transparent and open capital market with numerous company listings.
“Nigerians want to see legislative instruments that will help to open and stimulate private sector investment in infrastructural development. This will serve as a primary source of funding for national development and also lead to job creation for our teeming populace in line with the Federal Government’s agenda for youth employment” he said.
He commended the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the initiative of sending a task force on emerging capital market to Nigeria. He also enjoined the Taskforce to identify Nigeria as a priority market adding that the Senate will continue to fashion out legislative instruments towards achieving set  objectives.
In his remarks, leader of the delegation, Roger Gifford, called for continued collaboration between Nigeria and the UK government. He said Nigeria has been identified as an emerging economy in Africa.
Gifford said the long bilateral ties among the two nations paved the way for the establishment of institutions in capital market.
He stated that the Taskforce will work to create an enabling environment by bringing investors into the country.
“I can only task Nigeria to continue to work together with the United Kingdom in order to make good use of the new partnership.” Gifford said.

Abraham Oba, the Minority Leader of the Abia state House of Assembly has been suspended for opposing the N30 billion loan approved for the State Government on July 21.

According to report on Premium Times, the minority leader was suspended following a motion by Solomon Akpulonu, (Obingwa East) and seconded by Chukwudi Apugo, (Umuahia East).
The suspended lawmaker was said to have contravened the House rule by addressing a news conference stressing that he was not the spokesman of the House nor given permission  to speak against a matter already decided by the House.


Meanwhile, the state opposing party, APGA, elected Ikedi Ezekwesiri (Umunneochi), as the new Minority Leader.
Also, Abia state APGA Chairman, Augustine Ehiemere, has rejected the suspension of the minority leader describing it as an abuse of power by the House.
He added that Mr. Oba was been punished for exercising his fundamental right
“The minority leader was just expressing his views. The suspension is unacceptable to the party’’ he said.
It would be recalled that A billion loan approved for the State Government on July 21.
In a move to unite the upper chamber of the National Assembly, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, is believed to have decided to pacify senators loyal to Senator Ahmed Lawan, with juicy committee positions, Vanguard reports.
Ahmed Lawan, some of his supporters may get juicy committee positions.
According to the report, loyalists of the Senate president are not in support of the move. They have expressed concern about compensating Lawan’s supporters, but Saraki feels the move will heal the wound which Lawan and his supporters are still reportedly carrying.
“I can confirm that a meeting to that effect was held last week by the Senate President. This was at the instance of supporters of the Senate President, who were insisting that for allowing us to go through all that happened here in the Senate, Lawan’s loyalists must be treated as renegades. But to demonstrate his magnanimity, the Senate President asked us all to bury everything that happened in the past, insisting that there was no victor in the contest,” Vanguard quoted a source as saying.
 
The source added: “Some of the senators particularly insisted that Senators Kabiru Marafa and Suleiman Hunkuyi, who were not only the well-known critics of emergence of the Senate President but went as far as sending petition to the police alleging forgery of the rule used in the election be only made as members of committees but the Senate President said no. He told them that doing so will not be fair in the spirit of ongoing efforts to bring every senator together and forge ahead a united Senate.”

Also revealed is Saraki’s plan to appoint influential senators in his camp, including Senators Dino Melaye, Danjuma Goje and Sani Yerima and 10 others, to strategic committee positions.

Nigerian Senate is a Senate of fools, blockheads, ignoramuses, and idiots.
Yes, of course I know this description of Nigerian Senate by a Nigerian is offensive to some, maybe more than some, people. Nonetheless, it is true. The Senate is made up of callous, indifferent, stupid fools who keep silent in the face of tyranny while the nation and its people are dying.
Nigerians are their own worst enemies to a country we all pretend to love and care for. The 81 senators who backed Saraki no doubt were co-opted by the forces of greed. It’s no surprise that the 81 fools, blockheads, ignoramuses, and idiots passed vote of confidence on Saraki for fraud and forgery that reward him with the senate presidency.

81 senators sold their souls to the devil

Thanks to these fools for given refuge to a con artist who presides over a senate of one of the richest countries on earth, yet with the largest number of poor. Frankly, there is something very wrong with us as a nation and as people. The elected 81 senators sold their souls, their bodies even their mothers to the devil – Saraki.

Nigerians have never learned anything all these years. We’re taken for a ride, a wild dangerous and reckless ride by our not so honorable senators. 81 senators in cahoots with a crook and thief whose family for more than a decade have taken us for a wild ride to the dark side of life, to poverty, and to looting our banks and the treasury.
Nigerians keep returning same damn people back to office. In fact, our National Assembly is no different from the feudal lords of the Dark Ages, passing their seats from father to son or to daughter. Make no mistake about it, they all laugh at us as we line up every election to cast our votes. Do you blame them? Of course not! They have good reasons: we don’t take any actions against those who vote or support the devil against us, the citizens. We return them back to office.
There is such a frightening criminal collusion among the 81 senators. The disaster, suffering, sadness, poverty we have been experiencing as a people is a result of this collusion. As Nigerians, we handed over our destiny of a decent honorable life to a bunch of crooks, and decadent senators.

The crooks and thieves that run the National Assembly

Everywhere you turn, it is the crooks and thieves that run the National Assembly, run the treasury, run the Central Bank, and until March 28 run Aso Rock. Nigerians, do you ever wonder why the 81 senators passed vote of confidence on Saraki who should be in jail by now? What do you think of the character and caliber of the 81 senators?
The 47 PDP senators and 34 APC senators who passed vote of confidence on Saraki did not support or share the anger of Nigerians over the forgery of the Senate Standing Order by Saraki and co-forgers. The senators claimed that the criticisms and police investigation into the forgery of Senate Standing Order amount to sustained interference in the internal affairs of the senate by distractors and media propaganda against the senate and senators by selfish politicians.

Internal affairs of who? By who? And for who? When has criminal offense such as forgery become “internal affairs”? Is the Senate now a family affair? Who owns the Senate? Nigerian people or the damn fool senators? Can you see the lawmakers at their best as lawbreakers? The 81 senators who support Bukola Saraki the heir to the Saraki Family Corruption Dynasty are severely retarded. They are just smart enough as fools. This is why they fight back with something other than facts since they’re impoverished by lies and greed.
No matter what, Nigerians will prevail because our need for progress is stronger than the ignorance, the foolishness, and the idiocy forced upon us by Saraki and the 81 senators.

“We condoled with our people over the agony they found themselves as a result of the ongoing crisis.
“On behalf of the Senate, we will do everything to see to the end of Boko Haram through motions and resolutions to let the whole world know that we are capable to do our best to stop this carnage perpetrated by boko haram madness.
“We will set aside every needed things to resetlle our people of the north east and rebuild all the communities destroyed by insurgents.
 “We will support the executive under the leadership of president Muhammadu Buhari who is committed to see to the end of this madness and to ensure that all areas destroyed by insurgents are rebuild in no distant future.”
 
The senate delegation donated the sum of N10m to Internally Displaced Persons in the state.
On his part, Shettima thanked Saraki and other members of his delegation for taking their time to visit Borno despite the security challenges posed by the militants.
Borno governor praised Saraki for leading an influential senate delegation to see on the spot assessment of the damages done to some areas in the state.
It would be recalled that at least six people have been killed in a suicide bombing by Boko Haram members in a crowded market in Gamboru, Maiduguri on July 31.
It should also be noted that before the end of 2015 year.

President Muhammadu Buhari today, August 4, sought the approval of $75 million credit facilities from the world bank for Edo state.
The letter read: “I am writing to seek the consideration from the National Assembly of the Republic of Nigeria, an approval for the request from Edo state government to obtain a $75m credit facility from the World Bank.
“You may wish to know that the World Bank had approved a development policy program for the total sum of 225million dollars to Edo state government 2012 to be implemented in three tranches of 75millon per annum.
“The first tranch was approved by the national assembly in the 2012/2014 federal government external ruling borrowing plan. The DPO has since been successful implemented by the state in 2014. Following this success, the bank’s board of executive directors approved the second tranch.  
“On April 29 2015, the DPO too was captured in the federal government external borrowing plan of 2014/2017 which is pending with the national assembly.
“It is for the above reason that i seek your favour to facilitate the consideration and approval of the development policy operation 2 loan of 75 million to enable the state to consolidate on the gains of the first tranch of the operation DPO 1. 
“Your excellency, its instructive to mention that Edo state has informed me that the key programme objectives of the DPO are already beginning to show in terms of increased influence of private investment to the state.
“In closed private sector employment opportunities and increased internally generated revenues, an accelerated approval of this request will help to sustain this gains.
“I look forward distinguished senate president to the usual kind expeditions consideration of the above request by the senate.
“This letter supersedes HCF/3143/t/137 of 28 July 2015. Please accept as usual your assurances of my highest regards.”
The letter was read on the floor of the upper chamber by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, after which the Senate moved to a closed door session to deliberate on the appointment of the service chiefs recently appointed by President Buhari.

And headbanging fans with great expectations for Steel Panther's final show Monday night at Los Angeles's House of Blues Sunset Strip, before the 21-year-old venue is razed to make room for condo and hotel developments, were not disappointed. Steel Panther bid farewell to the beloved club with a procession of all-star sit-ins, culminating in a freaky family affair featuring frequent Panther guest Billy Ray Cyrus and his notorious daughter, the one and only Miley Cyrus.

Miley hadn’t planned on performing, but when the band prodded her from the stage, encouraging the crowd to chant, “MILEY SING!” over and over again, she just couldn’t say no, joining in on a rousing singalong of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me.”

While her Panther performance wasn't nearly as racy as her infamous 2013 MTV Video Music Awards appearance or her own concerts, Miley was definitely a dynamic and shameless stage presence once she got into it, hamming it up and grinding on bassist Lexxi Foxx as well as crooning the track’s chorus with frontman Michael Starr and her dad, although she disappointingly refrained from taking the lead on any of the verses.
At least her father took powerful lead on his own number, Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell,” a song he’s done with the band before and clearly has down. He added a subtle Southern rock flair and ferocious growl to the new wave staple that was a long, long way from "Achy Breaky Heart."

Before the Cyruses, other special guests included Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Dane Cook on Van Halen's “Panama,” *NSYNC's Joey Fatone on an amusingly reworked Tom Petty cover called “Free Ballin',” and crowd-pleasing comedy rockers Ninja Sex Party.




Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and adult film star Ron Jeremy were also in the audience, and as is often Panther’s shtick, both were called out and publicly mocked. Jeremy took the bait at the end of the night and hopped onstage to played harmonica with the band for a brief moment, though this was anti-climactic (no pun intended) after the Billy Ray and Miley's crazy cameo.
Steel Panther savored their goodbye moment at the end sans any guests, however, singing an original song as a dizzying amount of blue confetti flew about the room. The entire night was heavy on their repertoire of raucous and risqué originals, including “Fat Girl,” “Asian Hooker” and “Gloryhole,” during which they did their own version of a balloon drop, releasing dozens of blow-up dolls into the crowd. 
The House of Blues may be leaving the Sunset Strip, but rest assured, there are still plenty of HoBs across the country where Steel Panther and Friends can continue to rock out until a new L.A. location is established (Vegas being the most obvious fit for the band’s glitz and glam). Whatever direction the guys decide to head in, their historic final show at the Hollywood House of Blues won't be forgotten any time soon. What Steel Panther do may be parody, but Monday night was no joke.

The daughter of a former governor of Oyo state governor who is known for her controversial stand on issues is at it again. 
Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo has joined her voice to that of people calling for the legalisation of gay marriage.
On this she has criticized the ongoing onslaught of the Nigerian Homosexual law giving hard prison penalties to Nigerians who are just being themselves.
Below is a press statement sent out by her:
“The Nigerian government and lawmakers have given themselves the license to represent the people stating that God does not endorse homosexuality. God also does not endorse hate, ritualism, rape, polygamy, suicide bombing girls and baby factories” she said.
It is simply hatred. Asked why she never follows her fans on twitter, she blamed it on homophobia stating that she does not follow hate and all Nigerians are “hell bent” on homophobia.
Omololu-Olunloyo also wants the government to know that President Buhari’s visit to the United States should have addressed this law and not brushed it aside with American President Obama.
“America is not telling us to legalize gay marriage, they are only telling us that when you have law abiding citizens going about their own business not bothering anyone, they should not be scrutinized and stripped of their rights of being themselves.”

She also wrote on her twitter handle @HNNAfrica that Uganda dropped their anti-gay law after four months and she hoped that one day Nigeria will do the same.
“It’s very costly economically for a country like ours with no jobs for youth. We can never be chosen to host the Olympics, World Cup and other global events for this reason. We can’t be a host country to anything and already our image as one of the African countries promoting such hate is tarnished.”
Omololu-Olunloyo also spoke about last week’s denouncing of homophobia by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who lashed out at the stabbing attack at an Israeli Gay Pride rally injuring teens. Netanyahu stated that he will continue to lead his country against hatred and homophobia. Israel ironically is a country Nigerians flock to for their annual Christian pilgrimages.
“Contrary to popular belief, God does not hate gays” she said and “does not call anyone with a generic name “ as she cited a pro-gay tweet by Pope Francis.

She advised Nigerian lawmakers to listen to the strong messages President Barack Obama delivered at the African Union Summit about African leaders with anti-gay laws during his trip to Kenya and Ethiopia in July 2015. According to her, “Hate should never reign in Nigeria”.

Following the moves of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against daughter of ex-president Umaru Yar’Adua, former First Lady, Turai, visited ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Businessman Kenny Martins reportedly made the entourage of the former First Lady to Obasanjo’s residence.
She met behind closed doors with former president for more than an hour before leaving in a convoy of three cars, Premium Times said.
 
It’s the first visit of Mrs. Yar’Adua to ex-Nigerian leader since her husband died in office in 2010 after long illness.
According to sources she thanked Obasanjo for finding her late husband a worthy successor, and begged to him to forgive her and her family for whatever wrong was done to him during Mr. Yar’Adua’s term.
Former First Lady also asked Obasanjo to succeed on President Muhammadu Buhari not to harass or persecute her family members or those who worked with her husband.
“She specifically intimated the former President of the ongoing probe of one of her daughters, Zainab, by the EFCC. She believed it is a witch-hunt, a ploy by the Buhari government to get at her family,” he said.
An assistant of former president confirmed the visit.
“It is true that she visited on Saturday. I don’t know exactly what she discussed with Baba (Obasanjo). But I think it is safe to say she came to greet him and discuss issues relevant to the two families,” he said.
It would be recalled that tover supposed N2billion fraud did during her husband’s term as governor.
When she appeared on July 27 at commission, investigators said she was settled administrative bail on health grounds and asked to return on a future date.
