What can be regarded as an unfortunate tragedy recently occurred in Ajegunle, Lagos state, when a peacemaker in an attempt to separate two fighting neighbours lost his life.
Kunle Abiola met his untimely death in the hands of one of the fighters as he tried to restore peace between the warring neighbours.
The killer, who was identified as one Chinomso, confessed he stabbed Abiola after he was nabbed by the police.
According to a report on Daily Post, Chinomso revealed that he never thought of stabbing the deceased to death, saying it was accidental.

It was gathered that two neighbours were quarrelling over a minor issue which later resulted into exchange of blows. Abiola was said to have tried to restore peace when he was stabbed to death in the process.
A resident identified as Ibrahim said: “He stabbed Abiola in the jaw and chest. Some people called the police and Chinomso was arrested. Abiola was rushed to the General Hospital at Ajegunle.”
Abiola gave up the ghost on his way to the hospital.
However, the state police spokesperson, Kenneth Nwosu, could not confirm the incident as he is yet to receive any of such report.
Meanwhile, in another sad development, a 14-sitter boat conveying school children capsized on Wednesday, July 1, along the Ojo Irewe waterways in Lagos. Six of them reportedly drowned, while eight of them including the driver were rescued.

Something very interesting happened at the Ozar secondary school, Asa in Ukwa West local government area of Abia state recently.
A JSS two student, Precious Nwadike, stormed the school with her mother and elder siblings to attack teachers and students, after she was sent home by a teacher, Mrs Njoku.

According to a report on Laila’s Blog, on June 8, Monday, Precious had been sent home to cut her hair by the teacher.
Instead of complying, she went home and regrouped, returning about two hours later with her mother, Mrs Nwadike and four of her siblings, who marched straight to the staff room, commanding the teachers to come out.
Prior to the incident, about two weeks ago, the student had been asked to cut her hair but she turned a deaf ear.

After commanding the teachers to come out, Mrs Nwadike reportedly held a teacher, pulled her cloth and ordered the sons to cut her hair.
When another teacher, Mrs Osuagwu tried to intervene, she was almost strangled by one of the sons.

Some other students then joined in the free for all fight, causing chaos in the school and disrupting academic activities.
According to youth corps member serving in the school who pleaded anonymity, she had to inform the military personnel, who swiftly arrived at the school and doused the tension.

Report has it that Mrs Nwadike and her children were taken to the Obehie police station while the teachers and students, who sustained injuries were taken to obehie Health Center for treatment by Mrs F.N Nwachukwu, the principal of the school.

The Enugu state police command has locked up the Mount Street Parish of Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria after two pastors and their loyalists engaged in a free-for-all fight.
The two pastors and their supporters fought over who should take control of the parish.
Apparently there has been an ongoing crisis in the church for more than three years as two persons, Professor Paul Emeka and Dr. Chidi Okoroafor are each laying claims to the leadership of the church, a position known as General Superintendent, a matter that is currently before the Supreme Court, Vanguard reports.
The drama was said to have started on Sunday, July 19, when one of the pastors, Rev. Nathaniel Udeze, came with letters of posting and other court documents as part of preparations to be installed as the new pastor at the parish.

According to him, he had been officially posted there by the leadership of the church under Rev. Paul Emeka, adding that Rev. Amaechi Agbo had been transferred to another parish since May 2015.
He was however resisted by Rev, Agbo and his supporters, who accused him of being an intruder and vowed not to allow him take over.
The trouble degenerated when supporters of both pastors arrived and started sharing different versions of Sunday school manual in preparation for the main service.
Both pastors threw caution to the wind and reportedly started shoving each other and their supporters followed suit, engaging in fisticuffs.

The police had to be called to restore order. On arrival, the divisional police officer, Dennis Ayara tried to calm the warring parties but all his efforts to bring the situation under control proved futile.
The led to the eventual shutdown of the church premises as the police cordoned off the place and put it under lock, while the leaders of the two factions were asked to report to the station.

Days after telling the nation that his persecution is due to the 2019 upcoming election, Former Jigawa state governor, Sule lamido and his two sons have been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

They were last week in Kano, arraigned and were later remanded in jail pending their bail application hearing on September 28.
The Lamidos were secretly moved to Abuja’s Kuje prison as they awaited a court hearing today, with a new judge who was assigned to consider the bail application.

The Judge, Gabriel Kolawole granted the accused, Mr Lamido and son alongside another individual, Abubakar Wada, bail in the sum of N25 million bail bond each, in addition to a requirement that they submit their travel passport to the court.
The court also asked the accused to produce two sureties each, one of which must be a civil servant of grade level 16 or retired as such, or a businessman who owns a landed property not worth less that N75 million in Abuja or Jigawa state. The accused was also required to submit two recent passport pictures.

Kolawole said EFCC’s argument that the accused persons were earlier allowed administrative bail by the commission based on the fact that they were unaware of the enormity of evidences gathered by the commission, was weak.
He said that EFCC must explain why the court could not exercise its discretion in favour of an accused person in this case.

The EFCC’s counsel had earlier signaled that their pool of evidence was so strong that the accused might jump bail.
As of now, the accused are yet to be released from prison as they have not met their bail conditions.
The EFCC are accusing Lamido, his sons and Mr. Abubakar of using their positions to steal Jigawa state funds.
One of the reported cases was the alleged payment by construction firm, Dantata and Sawoe, who paid N1.3 billion as 10 percent kickback for contracts it won, into accounts owned by the governor and his sons.

The popularity of the former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has soared barely three days after he was thrown behind bars at the Kano Central Prison, Kurmawa, over money laundering charges.

The number of visitors who come daily to pay him solidarity visits has made him the focal point in Kurmawa.
Lamido, along with his two sons, and one Alhaji Aminu Wada Abubakar, were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, July 9, over a 28-count charge of money diversion totalling N1.3 billion.
Justice Evylene Anyadeke of the Federal High Court in Kano, remanded him in prison, pending consideration of his bail application and suspended the hearing till September 28.
Sources revealed on Sunday, July 12, that the former governor played host to various friends, well-wishers and political associates who crowded the prison.

Blueprint learnt from reliable sources that several nationally renowned political figures went to his detention facility to pay him homage. His visitors described him as, “politically gallant and one who has never been easily rattled in the face of his political travails.”
Several former commissioners, special advisers, special assistants and Peoples Democratic Party stalwarts were seen at the prison as they went to sympathise with the man they described as “a genuine political mentor.”
It was also revealed that Lamido adopted a simple procedure of meeting with the people after seeking permission from prison officials, who painstakingly screened his visitors by compiling a list of names and giving it to him for proper identification.
Lamido’s visitors prayed for him, telling him that with constant prayers he would overcome his travails.
It is believed in some political quarters that Lamido’s bail application will be approved this week.
Earlier, Lamido said he is being persecuted by those who are threatened by his political profile because they are worried that they won’t actualise their presidential ambition with him around the political terrain.

Former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has spoken out for the first time since his detention at the Kano Central Prison by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Lamido who is in the prison with two of his sons; Aminu and Mustapha, over alleged money laundering charges claims that his case with the anti-corruption body was politically motivated.

The former governor who spoke to Vanguard through his media aide, Umar Kyari, said he is being persecuted by those who are threatened by his political profile because they are worried that they won’t actualise their presidential ambition with him around the political terrain.
He drew the attention of Nigerians and the international community to the attempt being made by his political detractors to intimidate him with the EFCC.
According to him, there have been plans in the pipeline since to put him away in prison for a long time so that his political enemies can have their way.
He further revealed that he is determined to prove his innocence in the court of law to show Nigerians that he is just a victim of political witch-hunting.
His spokesman said,“This current effort to frame and denigrate the former governor of Jigawa State with a view to rubbishing his high performance in office will come to naught at the end of the day.
“Lamido remains nothing but a scion of account has always fought on the side of the people, particularly the downtrodden and the vulnerable, since he came into the national political scene.
“He remains unshaken over the trumped-up charges slammed on him by the EFCC knowing that he has not committed any offense to warrant being thrown into the prison over a bailable offense.
“But the refusal by his traducers to grant him and his sons bail when others charged same day and time for even more grievous offences were admitted to bail speaks volume of the intention and mindset of those who are after him.
“Nonetheless, Sule Lamido strongly believes that, after being imprisoned several times all in a bid to pave the way for sustained democracy in Nigeria, the current effort by the EFCC and others to humiliate him and his family over the so-called money laundering charges will not break his resolve to continue to fight on the side of the people.
“It is Lamido’s strong belief that having not committed any offense against the state to warrant being sent to prison, he and his two sons will be freed and vindicated against the wicked plot of their adversaries”.
Meanwhile, a former military administrator of Kaduna state, Abubakar Umar, has condemned a federal high court decision to remand Lamido and his sons in prison for nearly three months.

Vanguard reports that shortly after his return from Abuja, Lamido gave an interview to the international radio station, VOA Hausa service.
The 69-year-old ex-governor described his arrest as the beginning of restoration of confidence in political leadership in Nigeria. He recalled that he had been arrested in the past for holding opposing political views, but stressed that he would never be discouraged in politics.
Lamido noted that if the purpose of his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was to humiliate or destroy him and his family, he would not be discouraged.

According to the former governor, his arrest was a political hazard that a serious politician must go through.
“In the process to improve democracy, there would be some mistakes. I am not a perfect human being; I have my own shortcomings. And in my own case, I’m outspoken, which perhaps explained why people found me too offensive and irritating,” he said.
Lamido confessed that he was worried about his sons who were innocent but had to suffer simply because their father served as a governor. Therefore, he called on Aminu and Mustapha to forgive him and be patient with the situation they found themselves in.
The ex-governor said he was determined to serve his people, adding that he held no grudges against anybody over his arrest.
On July 14, Lamido and his two sons were granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Hafiz Saeed, one of Islamic State’s leaders, was among more than 30 ISIS terrorists killed by remote-controlled US attack aircraft in Afghanistan.
According to the US intelligence agency, the extremists had gathered to plot more terror attacks in the Achin district of Nangahar Province on Friday. Afghani spies were watching and used a drone strike to kill the top ISIS commander.

The vow of alliance by Nigerian terror sect Boko Haram to the Islamic State (ISIS) may be no more than a propaganda move, experts say.

“Both groups need this right now. They need a propaganda coup to raise morale and attention because they are both suffering setbacks in their military campaigns.”
After a windstorm capture of territory across Iraq and Syria last year, IS expansion in its center areas has been stopped by local troops backed by the United States and Iran.
“For Isis, it’s an opportunity to present themselves as ever-expanding, to enhance their aura of inevitability. It’s a propaganda victory. And for that, all you need is a small camera and an Internet connection,” said Pham.
Constant territorial growth is a significant part of the IS communicative, under its slogan “remaining and expanding”.
“In Syria and Iraq there has been little to no ‘expansion’ in recent months, so the main benefit for IS is propaganda, if Boko Haram’s prior eccentricities can be restrained,” said Aymenn al-Tamimi, of the Middle East Forum investigation group.
However, “on Boko Haram’s side, the main benefit would be to secure financial support and an influx of manpower.”
IS, which announced itself a Muslim caliphate last June, currently has 25 provinces, best-known as “wilayats”, extended across Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Boko Haram has not yet declared if it wishes to become a wilayat under IS — a decision which could be seen as an inconvenient climb-withdrawal for its chiefs.
“Boko Haram has already announced the creation of a caliphate on their territory, and there can be only one,” said Morten Boas, a professor at the University of Oslo.
Boko Haram Openly Seeks Alliance With Islamic State
The group likewise promised alliance to Al-Qaeda several years ago, but little factual after in terms of what was occurring on the ground.
According to Boas, “Boko Haram is using this to try to seem more powerful than they really are.”
“It’s something they have been very good at – make people afraid of them. They have captured places because the ordinary Nigerian soldiers were afraid and ran away. It’s the best weapon available for a movement like them.”
But in the longer period of time, the vow of allegiance could turn into something more solid, fortifying both groups – especially if Boko Haram can build relationship with other IS associates in places like Libya.

That opposes with jihadists across North Africa and the Middle East, who often travel between war zones, building close personal ties and struggling aboard each other in different conflicts.
“There are not these pre-existing connections with Boko Haram,” said the analyst.
But the pledge of allegiance “could prepare the ground for some sort of collaboration between Boko Haram and IS in Libya,” said Boas.
“And that could be really dangerous.”

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has reportedly kidnapped three African Christians in eastern Libya.
The victims’ passports and photos were posted online through the Twitter handle, -T- @TDecker75 on July 17, Friday.
ISIS said in its statement that the abducted men come from Nigeria, Egypt and Ghana. The passport posted on the Internet indicated that Nigerian’s name is Ibrahim Adeola; his date of birth is May 24, 1979; he was born in Imo state.

Action Congress of Nigeria has condemned the legal tussle between Mrs. Patience Jonathan and her predecessor, Mrs. Turai Yar’Adua, over a plot of land in Abuja.

ACN said, “A study in despicable sycophancy, insider abuse, arbitrariness and manifestation of the culture of impunity all of which have become the hallmarks of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.”

In a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the ACN was not holding brief for Yar’Adua.

It said, “It is clear from the court records that the disputed land was first duly allocated to her non-governmental organisation – Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation – by the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory and a statutory right of occupancy duly issued under the hand of the same minister.

“From the same court records, the organisation paid all levies and dues running into several hundreds of millions of naira. However shortly after, the FCT minister, without reasons, issued a notice of revocation of the said property ostensibly on the grounds of overriding public interest only to swiftly re-allocate the same land to another non-governmental organisation, the African First Ladies Peace Centre, believed to belong to the current First Lady, Dame Jonathan”.

Famous hip hop singer Terry G, also known as GZUS, was recently attacked by armed robbers on his way to performance.

Sources close to the singer revealed that Terry G was not harmed, but some of his valuables, including phones, money and jewellery among others, were stolen.
“We tried to keep it secret, but we have to say it out now!
“GZUS was attacked on Sunday by heavily armed robbers on his way to an event, we thank God they just collected his valuables.
“Though they later recognized him, but they did not return the valuables. We thank God for life, protection and guidance,” the source said.

London, UK — A thief was apprehended by the police thanks to a curious crime deсtection system.
28-year-old Yafet Askale broke into a car in northwest London, and stole several items, including a laptop. The police were quickly alarmed and apprehended him shortly after the crime was committed.

Ultra-violet scans helped to reveal that the thief’s face and jacket were heavily covered in a susbtance which is odourless, invisible to the naked eye. It is almost impossible to wash out this substance from clothes, and it stays on the skin for weeks.
The system, called SmartWater system, is currently on the trial in London. Local people in Harlesden have been given free kits by police to mark their own valuables to deter thieves, and help catch them if they strike anyway.
The devices can detect intruders, and spray them automatically with a fine mist of the substance, which is marked with a combination of chemicals that enables police to link people to a particular incident.
Street robbery in the area has been reduced by 40 percent, and burglary by 80.
Local Detective Inspector says: “The trap car forms part of an overall crime reduction strategy designed by SmartWater, which is an effective weapon in the armoury of tools that we routinely use in Brent. We will continue to target those who are insistent on committing these types of offence.”

NAN reports that the veteran actor, who was recently conferred with a Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) honour, has cried out saying he is homeless and going blind.
He also denied claims that the government gave him money with the honour, and described the kind of hardship he and other veteran entertainers have been going through. He said that he was recently evicted from his three-bedroom apartment by his landlord.

The ASL Ice Bucket challenge went viral during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014, in order to raise awareness and money for research into ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a form of motor neurone disease) in the UK to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Davido later confirmed to the media that the twitter insults he wrote were meant for Wizkid for throwing shades at him. After which Wizkid came out on social media and took another shot at the Skelewu crooner, calling him a dumb boy.

Dorobucci, the latest hit single/street anthem from the Mavin crew got a lot of hype with many anticipating the roll out of the video.
After months of anticipation, the video was finally released on July 23rd but it seems not many loved it as it didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor.
The video which features Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, D’Prince, Reekado Banks, Di’Ja and Korede Bello was directed by Nick Roux of Molotov Cocktail Productions and shot in South Africa.

I have always loved acting. When I was very young, I used to stay in front of mirror and mimick my favourite actors and actresses. As I grew up, I discovered that I actually have passion for acting. I joined the movie industry in 2008. At the time, Afees Eniola came to my school to shoot a movie entitled Bamitale. Somebody introduced me to him. It was then that I got a form from him and joined his caucus. I have featured in numerous movies but the first movie I featured in was Bamitale. It was however the movie, Opolo that brought me to the limelight. It was written and produced by Shola Akintunde, popularly known as Lagata. Also, the role I played in the movie Bella, written and produced by Sobola Tayo (Sotayo) also helped boost my career. I joined the league of producers in February this year when I produced my first movie entitled Aruga. The movie was written and produced by my humble self and will soon be released.

The only challenge I faced when I started was that my parents didn’t want me to go into acting. Every other thing that came in the line of my job, I took in my stride and so far, it is so good. The journey has been good.

It was wonderful but trust me, it was not easy to face camera at first. However, I soon got the hang of things.

I don’t really have a beauty regimen. I try to eat good food. I try not to stress myself and I maintain my skin by using creams that are suitable for my skin type and that is the Extreme Glow beauty products. It does not cost me much to look good because I’m naturally blessed with a good body and skin.

I don’t believe in ladies exposing sensitive parts of their bodies but we all have our different mode of dressing. The fact that I don’t like it does not mean another person won’t like it. Everybody has the right to do what she wants. If you are comfortable in dresses like that then you can wear them, but as for me, I am not and that is why I don’t wear them.
Favourite pastime:
I love swimming.
Marital status:
I am single. My ideal man must be nice, humble, cool headed, caring and cute. I don’t really want to marry a fellow actor but if I find an actor who understands me, then I will.
On whether she is sexy or not:
Since some people said I look sexy then, I consider myself to be sexy.
How she handles advances from my male fans:
I make friends with them and nothing more. I love and appreciate all my fans, male and female, young and old.
Miss Solaja is also a movie producer and a script writer. She recently produced a movie titled ‘Aruga’, making her the youngest producer in the Yoruba film industry.

Also remanded in custody was the committee’s former secretary, Boniface Enemalo.
They were arraigned for allegedly soliciting for and collecting a bribe of $620,000 from the Chairman of Zenon Oil, Femi Otedola.
At the resumption of trial on Friday, the duo pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge filed against them. The counsels to the lawmakers, Rickey Tarfa and Mike Ozhekome, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, had earlier filed a bail application on their behalf.
However, the presiding judge, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi, ruled that both Lawan and Emenalo be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the ruling on their bail application.
He subsequently picked February 8 for ruling on the application.
