The Super Eagles were formally ranked as the 43rd best national team in the world and 7th in Africa but have now dropped to 57th in the world and 10th in Africa.
This comes despite the victory against Chad. The African countries topping Nigeria in ranking are: Algeria (19th), Ivory Coast (21st), Ghana 25th), Tunisia (32), Senegal (39), Cameroon (42th), Congo (47th), Cape Verde Island (52nd), Egypt (55th).

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that it is in talks with former Super Eagles’ captain, Sunday Oliseh, with regards to the vacant position of the team’s head coach.

It would be recalled that the NFF at the weekend terminated the appointment of another former captain, Stephen Keshi, over allegations that he breached the terms of his contract.

Nigeria is currently campaigning at the qualifiers for the 2016 Cup of Nations which will take place in Gabon. They won the tournament in 2013.

The former Nigeria international, Segun Odegbami, says the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, will be a huge success with the senior male national team.
Odegbami, popularly known as ‘the mathematical’ for his analytical prowess, described Belgium-based Oliseh as one of the Nigerian coaches with the intellectual capability required to tutor the Nigerian football team.

Speaking on a live television programme monitored in Lagos, the former Nigerian winger said: “Our coaches have not been doing well because they lack intellectual capacity.
“Oliseh studied at LASU, listen to his analysis, read his comments, and you will see that he has something that our other coaches do not have. He may go in there and fail from day one, but with what he has, I am sincerely happy about Oliseh’s appointment.”
Oliseh, a defensive midfield stalwart during his playing days, starred for several top clubs in Europe before pitching his tent with coaching, and has been analysing sports on Supersport, BBC, among other sports juggernauts around the world.
However, Odegbami condemned the decision to hire a foreign technical assistant, saying that he believes that there are other local coaches who can do the job better than foreigners.

“I am not so cool with that appointment because we have Nigerians. We have guys who have the credentials to do the job, “ he stated, adding:“if Nigerians are looking at a foreign coach, they should look at someone like Sam Okpodu, who is one of the most respected coaches in the USA, he is a coaches’ trainer in the states.”
The previous national coach Stephen Keshi was fired early this week, after suggestions emerged that he had sought to coach another national team despite the fact that he was still Nigeria’s manager.

According to The Punch, Sunday Oliseh has accepted the job offer and would work with a Dutch as an assistant.
A manager close to Oliseh in Europe said: “I can confirm that Sunny (Oliseh) has accepted the offer and he will be working with an assistant coming down from Europe as well.”
On Wednesday, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who is the Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, stated: “An offer has been made, and there is an understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed.”

The federation confirmed that Oliseh would come with a foreign technical assistant, whose job description will centre around development programmes, and working with clubs’ youth teams and certified academies towards developing the game from the grassroots.
NFF President Pinnick explained: “Sunday Oliseh has vast experience and immense knowledge of the game, and will certainly add value to what we are doing. He has bought into our vision and objectives towards the development of Nigeria football. He will command the respect of the players and we trust he has the temperament to work harmoniously with the Technical and Development Committee, the Technical Directorate and the Technical Study Group.On our part at the NFF, we will give him all the support to succeed as we have been giving to all our coaches. Subject to the approval of the NFF Executive Committee, we will conclude negotiations by weekend and he will be unveiled next week.”

But the kids were punished for not submitting to the judge’s demand that they foster a “healthy relationship” with their dad, according to Fox 2. “There is no reason why you do not have a relationship with your father,” another outlet reports the judge told the eldest child in court, during the latest episode in a bitter family feud that has included allegations of abuse and fear of parental kidnapping. “Your father has never been charged with anything. Your father’s never been convicted of anything. Your father doesn’t have a personal protection order against him. … You, young man, have got it wrong. When all the kids remained resistant, Gorcyca ruled them in contempt and sent them to Children’s Village’s juvenile detention center until age 18. The trio have reportedly since been separated from each other, as well as both of their parents, who aren’t even allowed to visit.

“After more than five years in court and dozens of court appearances, Dr. Eibschitz-Tsimhoni is continuing to demonstrate her disregard for the well-being of the children and disrespect for the law and due process,” Omer Tsimhoni’s lawyer, Keri Middleditch, wrote in a statement to Yahoo Parenting. “This situation is traumatic for everyone involved, and it is unfortunate that the children are in shelter care due to the actions of their mother. [She] has continued to endorse the children’s behavior that she successfully instilled in them, effectively alienating them from their father. The court took severe action to attempt to remedy a heart-wrenching situation.”

Eibschitz-Tsimhoni’s attorney, Lisa Stern, didn’t respond to Yahoo Parenting’s request for comment, but she told Fox 2 the mother is upset. “I think the judge was very concerned about reunification of this family but went about it the wrong way,” Stern told Fox 2. “I know laws were violated, and I know that the children were punished for crimes they did not commit.”

Attorney Henry Gornbein — who has represented Eibschitz-Tsimhoni in the past during her bitter five-year divorce saga and custody battle with her ex husband — tells Yahoo Parenting that in his 45 years in practice he has never heard of such a contempt-of-court ruling for children during a family hearing. “This has been a high-conflict divorce,” he says, “a very nasty conflict from the get-go that has obviously spun out of control.” It’s “highly unusual” he adds. “I’ve seen cases where you might threaten or sentence a parent for refusing to comply with a judge’s order, but I’ve never heard of a case where children themselves were incarcerated. This is bizarre.”

Juvenile hall, he confirms, is “akin to incarceration. They’ll probably be in a low-threshold area and hopefully not exposed to anything that would put them at risk,” but the kids will be housed among other kids under 18 who have been sent there for committing crimes.

“I cannot eat, I cannot sleep,” Eibschitz-Tsimhoni said, lamenting the plight of her kids — who have been held in detention for two weeks now and don’t have a review hearing until September 8. It looks like the social media drama might not end soon as Lucia Adebayor, the sister of the Tottenham striker, has snapped back at her brother over his recent social media foray, in which he openly talked about the many challenges he is facing with his family, especially his siblings and mother.

The Telegraph reports that Spurs head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, has excused Adebayor from training this week as well as playing in the final game of the season against Everton on May 24. The footballer will not also travel on the post-season tour to Malaysia and Sydney either.
In recent weeks, Adebayor has made a series of allegations against his family that have prompted concerns over his mental state.
In the latest Facebook post, he accused his brothers Kola and Peter of holding a knife to his throat and demanding money. The footballer also confessed that he has often considered suicide as a result of his family problems.

Although Tottenham want to sell Adebayor during the summer transfer window, the club is really concerned about the player’s moral well-being.

The lawyer of the legendary African footballer, Jubril Olanrewaju Mohamed, in a new interview with Premium Times has revealed that the family of the deceased soccer star are fighting over the properties of the dead footballer.
This is despite the fact that the late striker had willed all his estates to his two daughters (Yemisi and Mariam) who are ages 20 and 15 respectively.

The lawyer recounted how it has been a hassle keeping Yekini’s estate for the rightful owners — his two daughters. He also made it known that the tragic death of the football star involves foul play and that justice has by no means been served.
Below are excerpts from the interview:
Can you tell us a little about you?
Jubril Olanrewaju Mohamed is my name; I was the lawyer to Late Rasheed Yekini and counsel to his estate.
How has the task of keeping Yekini’s estate being for you?
It has been a challenging time in the sense that I had to ensure that the estate he left behind is not taken away from the beneficiaries he left behind, that is his two children. They are grown up children and to ensure that they are psychologically stable has been challenging.

There are talks that Yekini had more than two children. Has there been any claim from anywhere else?
A Togolese lady came with a three-year old girl eight days after his death claiming that Yekini was the father of the child. The mother (Yekini’s mum) accepted and other members of the family. Yekini actually confessed to the relationship and one and half years after the relationship was over she came back saying she was pregnant. It even caused misunderstanding between him and his mum because he refused to accept the child but his mother accepted saying the more the merrier. We asked her to do a DNA after she came back but up till now we haven’t ascertain the authenticity of the child’s paternity.
So back to Yekini’s estate, we hear all is not well as regards that
The family called a number of times asking that the properties be sold and shared among themselves. I however told them their suggestion was unlawful, even Islamically because he had children and a mother. He (Yekini) gave his mother some property and it would be wrong of me to take it away from her. Also the rest of his property, he gave no instructions on how to do deal with it. His mansion in Ibadan is still being maintained and we have looked for an estate manager to help us look for anyone who is interested in the property to lease it because the money you would get from there would be substantial. At the moment the respective mothers are the ones taking care of their children with a little input from me. Yekini has the BQ, the five flats of three bedroom at Ijagbo, then the mansion.
Right now however, they (the children) get nothing from the estate as we are still waiting on the lease of the mansion since the mother takes all the proceeds from the other properties. The family members feel they are entitled to whatever comes from the leasing but I have said no, that these two children are basically and primary beneficiary of that estate. They can meet their mother for part of what she is getting from Ijagbo’s property which is massive but as for this one, no way.
My jurisdiction is limited to this one mansion because I do not want to stop what Yekini did not stop in his life time. The property would naturally revert back to Yekini’s estate after her demise and according to our traditions, no elderly person wants to be left behind while their child or grandchild dies, so the rent that accrues after her demise becomes that of Yekini’s children.
You have fingered foul play in the death of Yekini, do you still maintain such stance?
I maintain that stance because of the circumstances surrounding his death. He did not die naturally and I asked some questions on the circumstances leading to his death and they have not been able to provide me with answers. According to the report of his late younger sister who died shortly after he died and was the mastermind of his abduction, she said that morning of May 4, she said they gave him tea because he was tied down because they felt he would escape if they did not tie him down. She said Yekini begged to be released to see me and that he was being smoldered where he was. It was after he took a cup of tea which he requested for, he became restless and started gasping for breath. That was when they took him to a nearby hospital Al-Amin Hospital in Apete, in Ibadan.

According to the doctor who attended to him, Yekini was virtually dead when he was brought in because the pulse was actually very feeble before he could do anything the man was gone. So I wanted to see those guys who took him away and ask them what his treatment plan was because you can’t die in such circumstances and it would not raise suspicion. By the laws in Lagos state, there would have been an inquest into his death; the coroner should have been brought in to verify the cause of his death. That was what I was asking for. The family members might have had genuine reasons for doing what they did and I was not out to persecute them. I just wanted to know the cause of Yekini’s death. Just like what happened to Michael Jackson, there was an inquest. If it were a nobody now, we could just overlook such things but a whole Rasheed Yekini was taken to the native doctor forcefully and he died there and we did not know the cause of his death.
Do you think you could have done more to avert Yekini’s death?
Yes, I wish I did more to keep him safe. I thought the police order was good enough but may be stationing a policeman would have been better. I was disappointed that the police failed to make any arrest and ended up calling it a family affair and saying no one had come to declare their grievances. I asked them if there was a corpse lying in the street would they leave it there because no one came to report? They however were waiting for me to write a petition and I did not do that because I expected the police to bring up the coroner law and find out the cause of death of a man who was kidnapped from his house and later found dead despite an order restraining some people.
Finally how are Yekini’s children faring?
Yemisi is close to 20 and the other is 15. The 20-year-old is studying at the University of Leicester where she is studying performing arts. The second one is in Osogbo. She will be writing her final year exams soon.
Rasheed Yekini was born October 23, 1963 in Kaduna. He died May 4, 2012 in Ibadan.

Reports reaching us indicates that former captain of the Togolese national football team Emmanuel Adebayor is still bitter about the way his mother and siblings have treated him.

Like a soap opera with several episodes, Adebayor shared several posts on his Facebook page to reveal the dirty details behind the relationship between him and his mother.
Adebayor alleged that his mother and brother tried steal and exploit money from him and stated categorically that he has moved on with his life.

It would be recalled that in the past months, Adebayor shared three posts on his Facebook page to express anger with his family and urged the public to learn lessons from it.

Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike has narrated his ordeal hours after he narrowly escaped death in Turkey.
According to Emenike, he and his Fenerbahce teammates were left in shock after their team bus was shot at by a gunman on Saturday night in Turkey.
The Turkish league leaders were travelling to Trabzon airport to fly back to Istanbul, following their 5-1 victory over Rizespor, when the shooting happened.
BBC Sport reports that the driver was taken to hospital, but no players were injured in the attack which Emenike described as a ‘scary moment’.

“The incident left several players in shock on a day we should be celebrating a big away win,” Emenike told BBC Sport.
“I was on the phone with my brother when I heard the loud sound and I thought one of our tyres had busted because the bus was swerving on the road.
“But when I found our security officer in front of the bus I knew something must have gone awfully wrong.”
The 27 year old Emenike says it was not long before they realized someone had been hurt.
“We quickly realized the security guy was the one who hit the break, and he said the driver [who was already soaked in blood] had been shot.
“The word ‘shot’ came as a big shock but when we saw blood and the shattered driver’s side window, it quickly turned into a scary moment for everyone on the bus.”
He continued: “It’s unbelievable that some people actually fired shots at our bus and the driver was badly hit, a bus conveying footballers and officials.
“It’s strange, but it’s also an indication that things happen in life and no one can be guaranteed complete safety.
“I just want to wish our brave driver a speedy recovery. I will forever be grateful to him and our security man because that bus could have plunged down the bridge.
“The outcome could have been terrible and tragic but we are all here today because of them and of course God was on our side.

For Emenike, the shooting was particularly shocking as it brought back bad memories.
“I’ve been involved in a terrible accident in Nigeria before, where my mother suffered severe bruises, and for a moment I had a terrible flashback when that bus was swerving all over the road.
“I hope this incident will be investigated thoroughly and the perpetrators are made to face the justice system.
Emmanuel Emenike has only scored four goals in 23 league appearances this season but insists this latest incident will not force him to quit the Istanbul-based club.
“I have a contract here and I love the club,” he added.
“It’s only an isolated incident and not enough to make me look for an easy way out.
“I have put the past behind me and I am only focussing on what lies ahead. I am stronger now than before and right now I just want to wish our bus driver a speedy recovery.”
Fenerbahce have since called for the Turkish Super Lig to be suspended following the attack.
Emenike, who has endured a turbulent period in Turkish football since he re-joined Fenerbahce in 2013 has been plagued with series of hard times in Turkey. Recently, he demanded to be substituted after he was booed by his own fans during their 1-0 home win over rivals Besiktas.

An armed robbery suspect whose gang has been noted as being notorious and operating in Lagos State, has said that the police used Juju to apprehend him.
The suspect, John Uche whose gang also used charms have been robbing innocent people of their valuables before the divisional police officer of Festac police station, SP Ifeanyi Owo led a team of anti-robbery policemen to the scene.
One police constable who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the team rounded Uche up at Festac- Amuwo Odofin link bridge.

The sergeant revealed that the two of the robbers managed to escape while luck ran out on Uche.

He said the people at the station are not ordinary people. Anyway, the case has just been transferred to the Lagos State police command Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, for further investigation. Emenike has been one of Nigeria’s most powerfull strikers and plys his trade in the Turkish league having resigned to Fenerbahce after a short spell in Russia.

Over the weekend, two popular African footballers; Emmanuel Emenike and Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly converted to Islam.
Daily Post reported that Emenike announced his conversion during a conversation with a coach of his club, Vitor Pereira.
Though the striker admitted to fasting during the Ramadan month, he denied his conversion saying he was a staunch catholic.
The top scorer at AFCON 2013 was absent when the squad had breakfast on Saturday, prompting the manager to ask about his whereabouts.

He said: “The report that I am now a Muslim is absolute rubbish and false. I want the source of the news to re-address it. I have no reason to convert to Islam even though I have lots of Muslim friends. Is there any big deal observing fasting during the (Muslim) fasting period?”
“I am very disappointed seeing the news going viral because it is something I told my coach in our conversation when he asked me a question and I never said I have become a Muslim. Fasting is not what everybody should know that you are doing and it’s very sad seeing this in the media.
“I am a Catholic, a strong one for that matter, and I came from Christian home. I don’t discriminate against anybody and I believe we are all equal in the presence of God, so what is the big deal in fasting? Does he know how many time I fast to get closer to God before the fasting periods? It’s really sad because I don’t see it as a big deal,” the striker told African Soccer online.
Emenike is reportedly unsettled at Fenerbache and is seeking a move to Tottenham , the club Adebayor plays for after failing to feature in his club’s two pre-season matches so far and being subjected to racist abuses last season.
