Instead of paying her, Adeiekwe took offence, grabbed her and bit off a part of her ear.
She was bleeding profusely and had to be taken to Igando General Hospital with the piece of ear that fell off. But before they reached the hospital the piece of ear was already dead and doctors said it could not be stitched back.

Senator Rasheed Ladoja, former governor of Oyo state and gubernatorial candidate of Accord Party in the last governorship election has began legal proceedings to challenge the victory of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of All Progressive Party (APC) at a tribunal to be inaugurated soon.

Investigation revealed that as at the time of filing this report, only Senator Ladoja has submitted a petition against Ajimobi at the governorship tribunal while the three other candidates, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala of Labour Party (LP), Senator Teslim Folarin of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Engineer Seyi Makinde of Social Democratic Party (SDP), have somewhat conceded defeat.

Meanwhile, it has been gathered that various interest groups including notable Ibadan indigenes and organizations are mounting pressure on Senator Ladoja to withdraw his petition from the tribunal for the sake of peace in the state.

At the inauguration sitting of the National and state Houses of Assembly election tribunal in the state, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice J.G Abunsaga said that the tribunal has received thirty-six petitions in respect of results of elections into the National Assembly and state house of Assembly in the state.
Breaking it down, Justice Abunsaga said that two and 10 petitions were received for senatorial election and House of Representatives respectively while 24 were for the state House of Assembly.
Seeking the cooperation of all the counsels in the matters disclosed that the panel would not exceed the 180 days stipulated by the nation’s constitution to wind up all the matters.

The judge also cautioned that the tribunal would not tolerate playing to the gallery by some counsels, stressing that, the tribunal would not tolerate any unnecessary adjournment to foot drag the matter.

“We shall be firm on all issues. Election petition tribunal is time bound. Every petition filed must be heard and dispensed with within the 180 days stipulated by the constitution of federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.”

Other two members of the tribunal are Justices G.C Nnamani and A.N Suleiman.
Responding on behalf of the counsels in the matters, Chief Richard Ogunwole, (SAN) assured the tribunal of the counsels’ maximum support.
He however charged the tribunal to impress it on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release necessary documents on request by the counsels.

“In as much as we are ready to cooperate with the tribunal, I believe there is need for the tribunal to impress it on the INEC and the REC on the need for them to release the documents in their custody. The papers are public property. Some of these documents were not released to some lawyers who have been there under the ground that their photocopy machines are not working. Since last Thursday, INEC has been closing its office. INEC wants to create a bottleneck. The documents are public documents. I don’t think INEC should take public holiday and lock up its office because time has started counting. INEC and the REC should take note and cooperate.”

The police have arrested one Blessing Goodluck, the woman who reportedly tortured and abandoned her 9-year-old son identified as Kingsley on Thursday at a filling station on Ijaiye Road, Agbado area of Lagos.

It will be recalled that, Blessing had last week Thursday severely flogged the 9-year-old child, leaving him with body scars because he greeted a neighbour whom she had misunderstanding with.

Blessing who resides in Ojuelegba, after severe punishment, took the boy to Ijaye road in Agbado area of the State where she abandoned him at a filling station.

The police were said to have traced her to Ojuelegba, where the son claimed they lived, without success but she was eventually trailed to an apartment in Sule Babalola Street, Agbado area of the State.

The mother who admitted to have committed a heinous crime, said she was frustrated, adding that the child was troublesome and stubborn.

Her words “I have realized that I over-reacted. Kingsley is very stubborn and troublesome. He won’t sit at home. He will be jumping from one house to another. I was frustrated. I promise it will never happen again. I have learnt my lesson.”

While confirming the arrest, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, affirmed that Blessing will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.

Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon turned conservative politician, says he’s running for the Republican presidential nomination. Here are some key things to know about the highly regarded physician and little-known candidate:

THE BRIEF
Quote
Dr. Ben Carson has never held public office, but he hopes to parlay fame as a surgeon, author and conservative commentator into an outsider’s campaign against established politicians. A nationally respected physician with a rags-to-riches story, Carson excoriates the modern welfare state. “I believe in a safety net for people who need a safety net,” he says, acknowledging that his mother sometimes accepted government assistance when he was a child. But, he added, “I do not believe in a system that puts people in a chronic state of dependence.” He talks openly of his religious faith. Carson also is the only African-American in the Republican field when GOP leaders acknowledge the party’s need to attract more non-white voters. But he also blisters President Barack Obama, who remains extremely popular among African-Americans. Carson once compared Obama’s health care overhaul to slavery. Carson blasts alliances between powerful interests and the federal government, saying the system denies most Americans a real opportunity at economic advancement and political power. The challenge for Carson is to capitalize on being the anti-politician while still mounting an effective campaign. Just as important, can he avoid mistakes that hobble longshot candidates? A recent example: Carson told CNN that being gay is “absolutely” a choice; he apologized after an uproar.

RESUME REVIEW
Quote
Carson, 63, gained prominence in the medical community during 29 years directing pediatric neurosurgery at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Perhaps his greatest single professional achievement came in 1987, when Carson led the first successful separation of twins connected at the back of the head. He has served on corporate boards and the governing board of Yale University, his undergraduate alma mater. In 2008, President George W. Bush awarded Carson the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor the U.S. government bestows. He speaks and signs books across the country and appears regularly on Fox News, which feeds his popularity among conservatives. About his political inexperience, he says: “It’s not about me. It’s about `we the people.’

PERSONAL STORY
Quote
Carson grew up in Detroit and tells audiences of a bare-bones childhood in which his single mother, who didn’t finish elementary school, struggled to get by. Carson concedes she sometimes took welfare assistance, but criticizes a culture that he says grew up around that help – of liberal politicians offering welfare in exchange for votes. “Whenever the government would announce a new program, people were so excited, `Yeah, we’re going to get more goodies,’ ” he told a tea party convention in January. Carson said he learned from that upbringing that “the person who has the most to do with what happens to you in life is you. It’s not somebody else. It’s not the environment. We have got to get that message to Americans, that you are not a victim.” Besides his bachelor’s from Yale, Carson holds a medical degree from the University of Michigan. Carson and his wife, Candy, have been married since 1975. They have three sons.

CALLING CARD MOMENT
Quote
The 2009 movie “Gifted Hands” featured Cuba Gooding Jr. as Carson. But the doctor’s political coming out happened when he was keynote speaker for the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. Only feet away from Obama, Carson used his platform to disparage Obama’s health care law, the progressive income tax structure and rising national debt, among other things. In particular, the speech raised Carson’s profile as a conservative front-man on health care policy.

EARLY STATE ACTION
Quote
Carson has made trips to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, but not as often as his rivals.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, Inibehe Okori has said that President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari would shock Nigerians with his pronouncements on May 29, 2015, the day of his inauguration.
Chief Okori, who was the APC candidate for the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, also said that Buhari would prove to Nigerians and the international community that corruption could be checked in the country.
Okori made the statements on Sunday, May 3, while speaking in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom.

Quote
“Unlike other presidents who were not prepared for leadership but foisted on the country by individuals and interest groups, the President-elect has consistently presented himself to the electorate to lead the country on four occasions and had his visions well enunciated,” Okori said.
“Buhari is taking over government on May 29 and from that day, I expect that he will make major pronouncements that will position Nigeria for greatness. This country must have a direction and move in the way it should. We don’t have any reason to be poor. We have no reason to remain the way we are – not after earning more than $50bn annually from oil and gas,”
he added.

Buhari has expressed his readiness to probe Nigeria’s oil sector including the subsidy payment regime and the allegations of $20 billion going missing from the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

According to reports, a large number of girls rescued from Boko Haram have been found to be pregnant.
This revelation was reportedly made on Sunday, May 3, by the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Babatunde Osotimehin.
According to Vanguard, unofficial reports put the number of visibly pregnant girls at 214.
Osotimehin is said to have given the indication while providing updates on the response to the rehabilitation of the rescued women and children,  said the organization.
“What we found is that some of the women and girls that have come back actually have much more in terms of the stress they have faced, so the counselling has to be more intense and working with them one-on-one,” he said.

“I’m glad the communities are not excommunicating them and are taking them back. That is an important therapy too. We anticipate this is going to escalate because the military intervention is continuing, we find that more people are now needing our services and we will continue,” he added.

“Beyond that, in the growing young people, we will always have pregnant women, but nobody segregates the needs of the pregnant women which are very important and different from the needs of the average community. We look after them, and ensure they get antenatal care and that they deliver properly and that they even get Caesarean Section when necessary,” Osotimehin said.

He also stated that the organization in collaboration with the Federal and state governments had undertaken the enormous task of restoring the dignity of the girls, who, he said, are facing severe psychosocial trauma.
