Ronu Leadership Forum has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s New
Year’s message as deceptive, insolent and condemnable.
In a statement signed by the forum’s Secretary General, Akin Malaolu, the body frowned on the preparation of the broadcast by Jonathan and his aides, stating that they could not give mature thoughts of hope as New Year’s message to Nigerians.
“We regret to say that the president’s address was condemnable, insolent to victims of insurgency and a complete ruse. It is now obvious that actions that border on intimidation and chiefly for selfish reasons and for the sole desire to rig self back to power in 2015 are going to be adopted.
“It should be clearly stated, however, that the several pronouncements by the president to act against hate speeches, sectionalism, abuses and inciting statements are a ruse that cannot remove the desires of our helpless millions of people who are desirous of change in government,” the group stated.
Malaolu said the president’s statement connoted that there would be “preventive detection” of political opponents and leaders, arrest without warrant or just cause, detentions without lawful orders, wanton police brutality, terror and torture.
